InoShikaCho is the poly ship between Ino Yamanaka, Shikamaru Nara, and Chōji Akimichi from the Naruto fandom.
Canon[]
Part I[]
Ino, Shikamaru, and Chōji knew each other from their early childhoods because their fathers were teammates and it was tradition for members of their clans to be assigned to a team together. Shikamaru and Chōji were also friends before they even started at the ninja academy. A group of children decided that Chōji was no longer allowed to play with them because he always caused his team to lose, and Shikamaru pointed out that the teams would have uneven numbers, but they would not relent. Chōji ran away heartbroken, but Shikamaru joined him, deciding that continuing to play with that group was stupid, and became his first real friend.
Ino, Shikamaru, and Chōji were all assigned to Team 10 upon graduating from the ninja academy under the leadership of Asuma Sarutobi. Ino was initially upset because she found the both of them to be annoying and had wanted to be on the same team as her crush, Sasuke. However, the three spent time getting to know each other and Ino learned to get along with the other two. They would frequently eat meals together at their favorite barbecue restaurant.
Team 10 was later recommended to take the Chunin Exams. During the first round, which was a written test, Ino used her mind possession jutsu to steal the answers from her rival Sakura before sending them to Shikamaru and Chōji. During the second round in the Forest of Death, they encountered Sakura struggling to fight off ninja from the Hidden Sound Village. Shikamaru reminded Ino that she used to be friends with Sakura, and they all decided to help protect her. As the exams progressed, the three cheered each other on in battle, but only Shikamaru made it to the third round.
Shikamaru ended being the only one to be promoted to Chunin, and the three went out to eat barbecue to celebrate. Asuma showed concern over Chōji's obsession with food, Shikamaru's laziness, and Ino's obsession with Sasuke, but Shikamaru told Chōji he was fine the way he was. Sasuke ended up defecting from the village, so Shikamaru was assigned to lead the mission to retrieve him, and he took Chōji with him, but Ino was not present.
Part II[]
Team Asuma was sent on a mission to fight Hidan and Kakuzu from Akatsuki. Asuma was killed in the battle, and the three of the surrounded him and cried in mourning. Shikamaru took leadership of the team and smoked Asuma's last cigarette. The three were later taken on a mission led by Kakashi to avenge their fallen sensei, and Shikamaru was able to defeat Hidan in revenge for killing their sensei. When Sasuke was classified as an S-rank criminal and the Konoha 11 voted to kill him, Ino was crying, and Chōji and Shikamaru comforted her.
Team 10's fallen sesnei Asuma was resurrected during the Fourth Shinobi World War, and they were forced to fight him. Chōji could not bring himself to fight his former master, so Ino used her mind possession jutsu to fight for him in his body while Shikamaru protected Ino's body with his shadow possession jutsu. The Ten-Tails later bombed the headquarters of the Allied Shinobi Forces and killed Ino and Shikamaru's fathers. Chōji tried to comfort them, but Shikamaru told him they would save the grief for after the battle.
New Era[]
Ino, Shikamaru, and Chōji all got married to different people in the years after the Fourth Shinobi World War. Shikamaru and Chōji both married women from other villages while Ino married a former member of Root. Ino and Shikamaru both had a son while Chōji had a daughter. They would train their children together as per the tradition of their clans. When their children graduated from the ninja academy, they were placed on the new Team 10 together under the leadership of Moegi Kazamatsuri.
Fanon[]
InoShikaCho is one of the more popular poly ships in the Naruto fandom, though most ship them platonically. Most fans agree that Team 10 has some of the best teamwork in the series. Many also feel that Shikamaru and Chōji had one of the best friendships in the series. As for Ino, many shipped her with either Shikamaru or Chōji to give her a love interest when Sasuke was shipped with someone else. AO3 currently has over 30 works for the poly ship. InoShikaCho rivals the canon pairings ShikaTema, SaiIno, and ChouKaru as well as other pairings such as SasuIno and SakuIno.
