ItaJun is the slash ship between Yuji Itadori and Junpei Yoshino from the Jujutsu Kaisen fandom.
Canon[]
The two met when Yuji was carrying out his first mission since his "death", they quickly became friends thanks to their common passion for movies. Especially horror movies. Yuji met Junpei's mother and they in turn hit it off. Junpei had met Mahito, a curse (a sort of demon), who wanted to help him get revenge on those who harassed him. But Mahito was a heartless manipulator and made sure that Junpei's mother was killed so that Junpei would go directly to his stalkers with his newfound powers. Mahito then turned Junpei into a curse, killing him.
Junpei's death and his helplessness in the face of it will have traumatized Yuji and will have engendered hatred towards Mahito especially when they come face to face again during the Shibuya incident. Yuji wanting at all costs to avenge the unjust death of his friend. Yoshino's death also affected to Itadori's mood, specially when Fushiguro asked Yuji about his situation while he was "dead" and Itadori had a flashback of Junpei being turned into a monster while saying that he didn't want to lose to anyone anymore, specially Mahito.
In the first opening it's seen Yuji sitting next to Junpei and possibly smiling at him, representing what Itadori had once told him, that he would be part of his group of friends and so they would be classmates. However after Junpei's death it's revealed that Junpei was only an illusion of what-if he was with Itadori along with the upperclassmen and the teachers too. At the end of the first opening, Yuuji is seen with tears on his eyes, possibly crying over Junpei's death.
Fanon[]
The ship is not as popular and well-known as some of Yuji's other slash ships such as ItaFushi and GoYuu, but it still has a small fanbase. Mostly due to Junpei's limited appearances within the series, with the ship reaching its peak during Season 1's airing and losing popularity afterwards. As Yuji seems to have been the only peer who treated Junpei in a humane way, JJK fans generally appreciate their relationship no matter the interpretation, making them like their friendship/relationship.
In fanarts and fanfiction, the two are often watching movies, their common passion that made them become friends. In the majority of fanfictions, Junpei survives against Mahito and joins Tokyo Jujutsu High. Conversely, other fanfictions deal with mourning as well as the trauma that Yuji tries to overcome after Junpei's death.
On AO3, ItaJun is the most written ship for Junpei. There are currently 380+ romantic and 180+ gen works on AO3.
