He Can Sing?![]
Outside before school when Jake is with his friends, Hailey and her step-brother Zander walk past them, Drew calls them "the music freaks duo" along with Henry teasing them also. Hailey retaliates by saying that they have nothing better to do than bully others because it's the only way they can deal with their daddy issues. Jake playfully calls her feisty in return to her comment but Hailey says to Jake that his friends picking on them first and tells him to keep them under control, Jake teasingly replies, "I can't promise that, princess." He then asks flirtatiously if she has better things to do than engage with Zander or that she just likes his company. Hailey then blushes at his comment out of embarrassment. She later goes on to say that Jake is just jealous and wishes he had half of her music talent and to have fun achieving nothing with his life and then walks off. Jake calls "Whatever, music freak!". He then says to himself that he probably has more music talent than she does.
On the rooftop, after Daisy convinces Jake to join The Music Club, he starts second guessing himself in fear of his friends teasing him relentlessly. But he then thinks back to Hailey's comment about wishing he had half of their music talent. He then makes the decision of joining the club and that it would be a way to get closer to Daisy and ask her out and on top of that, he'll prove to Hailey that he has way more talent that her and that he can't wait to see the look on her face.
When Jake arrives to the music club, he notices that the club is arguing about what type of music to play. He then jokes about mistaking the music club for the debate club. Hailey angrily asks what he's doing and asks if he's long or something. Jake announces that he's actually here to audition. Hailey doesn't believe him and asks if him and his friends are just trying to waste their time. Jake states that it isn't a joke and that he's here to sing alone. Hailey and Zander stare in disbelief. Jake explains that he's sorry for being a jerk and asks them to hear him first that he swears he's good. Zander suddenly smiles and allows him to step right up. Hailey is shocked by this but then Zander whispers to her that Jake is just going to embarrass himself when he tries to sing. Hailey eventually gives in and allows Jake to audition. Jake then goes on to amaze them with him singing "Just Breathe", during the song Hailey is amazed and even blushes slightly at how good his singing is.
After his audition, the club compliments his singing apart from Zander who is against him joining, let alone sing for them in the competition, he turns to Hailey for support while hoping she isn't considering this. Hailey doesn't respond to him. Zander then walks out to go to the bathroom with Luke going after him. Hailey walks up to Jake and says that she doesn't know what his intentions are but she can't deny that he's good. Jake confidently replies that he's not so "talentless" after all, calling back to Hailey's earlier comment. Hailey sighs and let's Jake join the club, but only because they could really need him however she states that if she's ever rude or steps out of line with any of them then he's out. Jake gets the memo and playfully says "I'll be on his best behaviour, ma'am." Hailey then asks Sean to introduce Jake to the band members and leaves to go find Zander. While introducing the members, Sean says that Hailey is the club president and that she can do anything when it comes to music, he then supposes that Jake knows enough about her already. Jake agrees but he wouldn't say that they're close.
Trust Issues[]
Jake arrives late to the music club’s rehearsal time and Zander is upset by this. Hailey reminds Jake that she said that practice starts at twelve-thirty sharp. Jake lied it was because of the cafeteria line and they get suspicious, but lets it slide. Zander storms off the room angrily. Jake asks Hailey if he’s gonna be like that the whole time. Hailey says that Jake and his friends has always been giving her and Zander a difficult time so it’s understandable why he acts the way he does. Jake asks Hailey again how he could gain Zander’s trust since he believes that the two are in a relationship. Everyone in the room cracks up and Hailey finds it funny that Jake thinks that she’s dating her stepbrother.
Later on, Jake with the help of Zoey and Lia, shares to the whole school about the music competition. The next day, Hailey and Zander were surprised to find some students talking to them and they suspect that Jake has to do with it. They find the music room is now full of people. Hailey asks Jake to come outside to talk with her and Zander. Jake explains that he wanted to make up to them for being such a douche and try to get them more support from the school. After Zander gets back inside the room, Hailey thanks Jake for helping out to get people interested in the club. Jake confidentially says it’s because they have the most charming and attractive guy at school as their main singer, but Hailey question him being charming and tells him that he needs a reality check. Jake teases her that she didn’t deny he was handsome, causing Hailey to be flustered and calling him delusional.
Pink-Haired Devil[]
Jake hides behind a bookshelf eavesdropping Zoey and Lia’s conversation about Milly in the library. He turns around only to find Hailey doing the same thing. The two whisper to each other asking what they’re doing, but get interrupted by Sadie trying to get a book between them. Hailey goes to confront Zoey and Lia herself, but Jake grabs her hand to stop her, causing Hailey to blush. He shares that he has a plan and asks Hailey if she trusts him. Hailey replies she does, but asks him to let go of her hand. Jake just realizes and let’s go, blushing in embarrassment.
After Jake successfully retrieves Milly’s diary page from Zoey, Hailey thanks him. Jake asks if this would be enough for Milly to stop fighting and Hailey thinks it should do the trick. She tells Jake to give the page to her, but Jake hesitates because he’s the one who retrieved it and thinks Hailey’s gonna take all the credit. Hailey says that she just can’t trust him to not read it. Jake states that he’s a gentleman at heart and asks “haven’t I already gained your trust?”. Hailey agrees, but tells him that he should give it to Milly as soon as he can.
Lovesick Luke[]
During chemistry class, Drew asks Jake if he’s gonna help him or talk to Hailey, referring to her as “his music girlfriend”. Jake and Hailey both blush a bit and tell him to not call Hailey that. In the end of the episode, Jake is about to enter the music room but is surprised to find out that Hailey can sing by her singing “Meant to Be”.
A Drummer’s Confession[]
Continuing from the previous episode, Jake was surprised to find out that Hailey could sing and compliments her saying she’s amazing at it. Hailey asks where Jake’s been as she believes it’s the fourth time in a row he’s late to rehearsals and he just muffles nervously. Later during gym class, Hailey mentions to Zander that she can’t stand watching because of Jake acting cocky from the attention he gets. Zander with a smirk on his face replied that Hailey can’t seem to take his eyes off Jake either. Hailey blushes a bit and tells Zander to shut up. Meanwhile, Drew asks Jake what’s going on with him. Jake answers that he just has things on his mind. Drew looks over at Hailey and assumes that Jake is starting to like Hailey because of him staring at her and the two talking to each other earlier during science class. Jake denies Drew’s claims however and says it’s just rehearsed stuff.
Misfortunate Day Out[]
Jake sings “Take Me Away” while practicing at Hailey and Zander’s house. While singing, he daydreams of him following his microphone leading him to the music club performing on stage. Hailey in the daydream is offers him the microphone back to him. After rehearsals, Hailey compliments Jake that he sounded great. Jake cockily says “naturally” and Hailey rolls her eyes. Jake asks if she thinks they’re ready for the competition and Hailey answers that despite some hiccups, she thinks everything is finally coming together. However, she listed some things they should go over and Jake laughs telling her to relax a little. Hailey’s dad, Michael, walks in and tells Jake that Hailey’s been telling him that Jake is quite a singer and says she sounded impressed by him during his audition, causing Hailey to feel embarrassed. Michael suggests the club to be lifted to the mall since Zander’s mother, Shannon, is dropping Bethany to her play date. Hailey wanted to continue practicing, but Shannon insist she takes a break. Hailey finally agrees and says she wouldn’t want to strain Jake’s precious voice anyways.
When they arrive at the mall, Sean realizes he lost his laptop. The club decides to split up to two groups to go search for it. Hailey chooses to be with Sean and has to choose between Milly and Jake to make it even. She ends up choosing Jake, causing Milly to be upset. The three search on the second floor while Milly, Zander, and Luke search on the first. After a while, Hailey and Jake lists off the places they searched for it with no luck. Jake mentions dancing to the elevator music and Hailey laughs calling him a dork. Jake says he knew she wanted to join in. Hailey notices Sean is still sad and tries to assure him that they all make mistakes. Jake tells them the story when he left his brother at the soup isle when he returned grocery shopping at from the supermarket. Hailey says that remind her never leave her sister with him. As Sean goes to R&J’s, Jake notices his friends in the mall and grabs Hailey’s hand to hide behind a wall. After his friends go out of sight, Hailey blushes noticing Jake is really close her against the wall. Milly suddenly startles Jake from behind him. Jake apologizes to her while blushing in embarrassment. When Luke and Zander catch up to Milly, Hailey figures out that Jake suddenly pushed her against a wall was to hide from his friends. Milly adds that she saw the two and thought they were gonna kiss. Hearing this, Zander gives a death glare at Jake and Jake defends himself that he wouldn’t do that.
Out in the Open[]
Arriving back at Hailey’s house, Hailey wants to talk to Jake in private. Everyone else in the room just looks at them in silence. Hailey says it isn’t weird as she just wants to talk to him about something minor and Jake agrees to go. Hailey asks Jake if he was okay as she notices that he’s been spacing out a lot. Jake claims he is but Hailey knows he is lying as he is a bad liar and she lets him talk about it to her. Jake asks why did Hailey let him in the band. He tells her that ever since the time she sang Luke’s song, he was in shock as he didn’t know she could sing and assumed only he could sing. He compliments Hailey’s singing abilities, stating she’s more than good and that they don’t need him. Hailey responded it was a mix of multiple reasons. She says that the moment he sang, he sang with his heart and soul. She adds on that she could tell that he has a passion for singing and felt wrong to not let him in the band. Jake thanks her.
Hailey suddenly brings up Jake’s friend group into the conversation, saying that they’re toxic. Jake defends them that they’re still his friends. Hailey asks why Jake had to hide from them that day and he claims that they different opinion on things. Hailey gets upset, calling his friends judgmental jerks and doesn’t get why Jake would hang out with them. Jake explains is because that’s all he had in middle school. Hailey sings “Pushed Down” to Jake. Hailey says it’s up to him if he wants to be with them, but let’s him know that the Music Club band consider him apart of their family now. Jake smiles and says he feels the same way. Hailey then comments that who knew that Jake would be so vulnerable. Jake blushes a bit saying that they were just having a nice moment. When Jake is about to leave, he thanks Hailey for giving him a second chance. However, as he gets his way to his ride, he walks back to Hailey’s house. Hailey opens the door and Jake asks her to sing with him, causing her to react in surprised.

There is a scene where Hailey is ranting to Sean and Milly about Jake.
