JayJon is the slash ship between Jay Nakamura and Jon Kent from the DC Comics fandom.

Canon[]

Jon meets Jay in his first year at college. Jon was undercover when he saved Jay and a group of students from a school shooter, thus revealing his identity as a superhero, specifically Clark Kent's son. After Jon saves a boat of refugees, Jay approaches him, thanking him for saving his life. And reveals to Jon that he runs the news site "The Truth", where he exposes truths that media corporations don't report, such as the plight of Gamorran refugees, which makes him and Jon allies in their fight for justice. Later on, Jon and Jay get arrested for protesting against police for refugees' rights. Jon's dad goes to pick him out, since he and all the protesters were released after Jon proved how absurd the police were for detaining them and for treating refugees like criminals, and there, he meets Jay, who Jon introduces as his friend and Clark invites Jon to have dinner with them. When he meets Lois Lane, Jon's mother, Jay gets starstruck and runs away. Jon follows him and when he gets close to Jay, he tells him that he is a journalist, and that he has always admired Lois' work as one.

Later in the night, Jon's grandparents do their best to make things seem normal after Clark's departure from Earth, and ask Jay how he and Jon met. When they start talking, the dinner is interrupted when Kent Farm explodes. While trying to save his grandparents and Jay, he discovers that Jay might be a post-human who can't be hurt. When Jay and Jon meet again, Jon asks him about his superpowers, and he feels comfortable enough to share an intimate memory of the farm which was his "stronghold" with Jay, showing his vulnerability and how it hurts him to lose the place. Jay tries to distract Jon by telling him about the Post-Human network.

Back in Metropolis, Jon and Jay meet up with Aerie and Wink, two posthumans investigating superpowered teens popping up in America. They come to the conclusion that the attack on the Kents was the work of Bendix in retaliation for Jon's stance on social justice. Jon is startled by the data presented to him on experimentation on children and shows it to his mother. Lois is cautious, pointing out that he is not a supervillain but a president, with very good public relations. Jon heads to Gamorra to speak face to face with President Bendix, anyway. But he's set up in a trap where his powers get overloaded. Determined not to be overwhelmed by the overload of his powers, Jon flies off to help everyone he hears is in need around the world.

Along the way, Jon's powers start going haywire and he fires a blast of thermal vision into the sky. Aerie appears and is able to help Superman get back to Jay's house. Jon thinks he should keep moving so he doesn't hurt Jay. Jay says that it's okay since he can't be hurt, revealing that he has superpowers regarding intangibility that allow him to go through anything. Inside Jay's apartment, Jon tells him what Bendix did to him to cause his power issues. Jay advises Jon to rest as he has overloaded his powers and he can't risk being seen as a danger to the world if he continues at the pace he is. Although Jon wants to keep going out and saving people, he ends up passing out on Jay's couch, after Jay covers him with a blanket and puts noise-cancelling headphones to help him relax.

Nine hours later, Jon wakes up shocked at how long he was out. Jon admits that he couldn't ignore all the people who needed his help. Jay mentions that with his Intangibility power, he's the only person Jon doesn't need to protect or worry about. And looking into each other's eyes, the two of them share a passionate first kiss. However, their intimate moment is interrupted when Jon sees something when his x-ray eyes activate, and says he has to go. Jon apologizes for having to leave but gives Jay his cloak so that she knows he will keep his promise to return to him.

Fanon[]

JayJon has quickly become one of DC Comics most popular ships. Jon and Jay's love story, and especially their first kiss, was met with overwhelming praise from fans. However, it received ridiculous backlash from homophobic fans who were upset at the representation of queer love. Right-wing media outlets and conservative politicians bashed the couple, and got specially upset by Jon, Superman's son and successor, being a bisexual character. The homophobic hate got so ridiculous that a US Republican politician, Josh Mandel, a candidate for the Ohio State Senate, said DC Comics was “literally trying to destroy America.”[1]

Despite this hate and threats the DC Comics staffers received, the ship has been incredibly well received, with the romance between Jay and Jon becoming a fan favourite storyline of the Son of Kal-El comics.
