The web comic series has featured family-like moments between Steph, Jason and the rest of the Batfamily. With Steph being featured as a sister-like figure to Jason, from how she teases him and gets Jason involved in group sibling moments and activities.
Like the Assassin paint war game that the Bat sidekicks played throughout chapter 52. Although they weren't supposed to shot one another when in costume, Red Hood takes Spoiler out of play while she was in the middle of fighting Mad Hatter. Jason states that there were no rules in Assassin after Steph scolds Jason for shooting her in the back, resorting to an upset Spoiler saying that she has powerful friends who'll make him pay. These friends turn out to be Orphan and Signal, who Steph had asked to send her regards to Jason after they splatter him with paint.
When Steph found her half eaten Turkey sandwich gone in chapter 43, she suspected Jason as one of the culprits beside Tim and Duke. Since they were the only other people in the manor when she went to the door, and because Damian is a vegetarian she doesn't think it was him. After Steph couldn't get Ace to find the culprit, she states that she they will be doing things the hard way, Jason responds by sarcastically saying that he is terrified. Steph questions Jason first by wanting to know where he was in the afternoon, Jason states that he was in the library and then joins Steph there to search for the plate. Hoping that it would prove Jason's guilt, but Jason turned out to be innocent and then jokes to Steph on how nobody believes him to be so. Wanting to know who the sandwich thief is, Jason mentions that he heard Duke come downstairs when Steph went outside. After it was revealed that Damian had moved Steph's sandwich to the fridge, Jason sniggers at her before saying that he will be expecting her formal apology in the mail. Knowing that Jason was right, she says "fair enough."
After chapter 45 opens with Steph walking past Jason with Tim, while Jason was working on his bike, he asks Steph to hand him the tool Tim trips over. When Steph asks Jason what is the magic word, he replies with "Spoiler is the best" thinking that was the answer she wanted, but she would have been okay with please. As Steph picked it up, however, the tier iron made a similar scrapping sound to the crowbar Joker had used on him. Causing Jason to have flashbacks of that night and began to see the tool Steph was handing him as the crowbar. Jason runs out of the room, Steph notices that something was wrong and tried to ask him about it, but Jason was already out of the cave. Chapter 46 than has Steph cheering Jason up, after Bruce calmed him down from his panic attack, by showing him cat videos on her phone. Wanting to do her part in helping Jason to recover, after Babs and Damian helped Steph to find them.

JaySteph is a smaller pairing in the Batfamily fandom, but a rarepair in the DC Comics fandom as a whole.
Some fans consider the ship controversial for a two very big reasons. The first being that Stephanie had previously dated Jason's brother, Tim. As someone find the idea of dating your siblings ex, very weird. The other being the fandom misconception that the two have a large age difference. As many tend to forget that Jason is only two years older than Tim, and Stephanie is one year older than Tim. Making their age difference only a year, and not being in separate generations like many fans believe.
Steph being a BatKid and a former Robin, even though she isn't one of Bruce's wards, it still has a group view them as sibling figures to one another. Despite her former relationship with Jason's younger brother. The sibling-like moments between in the Wayne Family Adventures web comics, and the Robins seeing one another as siblings through the mantle that brought them together, helps to support this view.
On AO3, the gen version of JaySteph is the third most written ship for Stephanie, while the het version is the seventh most written ship for Stephanie. There are currently 920+ written gen fics and 530+ written het fics.
