JeanLisa is the femslash ship between Jean Gunnhildr and Lisa Minci from the Genshin Impact fandom.
Canon[]
The two are introduced together soon after the Traveler arrives in Mondstadt. Jean is shown pacing across her office, in obvious distress about Stormterror's attack. Lisa, seemingly sensing this, pulls away from her book and leans against the bannister. She then proceeds to reassure Jean of her support if Stormterror attacks again.
This scene is as an excellent precursor into their dynamic; Jean relies on Lisa's support and knowledge when situations become difficult. This can shown again when Jean sends Lisa and Kaeya to assist the traveller as they are responsible people she trusts. The theme of Jean blindly trusting Lisa is echoed through nearly all their interactions.
Their relationship was further developed during the Windblume festival where it's shown that despite Jean's strict and authoritarian personality, she has an evident soft spot for Lisa. Allowing her to take a more direct approach with reprimanding drunken citizens, despite Jean vocally disagreeing with her methods.
This is also shown with Lisa's carefree method to approaching work. Every playable and NPC knight mentions that Jean expects them all to be hardworking and that she forbids (and punishes) idle behavior. Despite this, Lisa is known for being incredibly lazy (sleeping on the job, outsourcing her duties to other knights, which is ironically what Jean punishes other knights for doing) and Jean has yet to punish or even threaten to punish Lisa for this. It's a reoccurring theme that Jean lets Lisa get away with things she would never let other knights do.
Voicelines[]
In Lisa's "Good Morning" Voice-Over line, she says good morning to Jean first, then apologizes afterward when she realizes that she's speaking to the traveller. ("*yawns* Good morning, Jean... Oh, it's you! Sorry, dear.").
In her Voice-Over line about Jean, she compliments Jean on her amazing leadership and her dedication even motivates her to work harder. ("Jean is a gifted and dedicated leader. Seeing how hard she works makes even me want to help her out."). Which is notably unusual considering Lisa's tendency to avoid work.
Jean's Voice-Over line about Lisa is an interesting introduction to their dynamic. Jean's tone is notably rigid and formal when speaking of other characters. However, her voice becomes uncharacteristically gentle when she mentions Lisa. Especially in the original Chinese Voice-Over. ("When Lisa is around, I always have peace of mind.").
Character Story Profiles[]
Jean's Story in Story 2 mentions that Lisa once suggested that Jean takes a break and "enjoy some afternoon tea, as is befitting of a lady.".
Jean's Story in "Jean's Daily Schedule - Ver. XVII" mentions that Lisa is Jean's traditional breakfast partner. Given that Jean is an extremely punctual and busy person, it can be assumed that she never misses these events.
Eula's Story 1 mentions that a few hours after Eula made a beeline for Jean's office, Kaeya and Lisa pass by the two guards patrolling it. Kaeya says to them, "The Reconnaissance Captain is back again? When you saw her, was it when she was marching towards Jean's office with her sword in hand, looking like she wanted to kill somebody?" Lisa then says, "Goodness, I must head there straight away. How can they have a tea break without me?" She then hurries to Jean's office. Then, Kaeya, whilst trying to suppress his fit of giggles, explains to the two guards that Jean gives up her time to spar with the Reconnaissance Captain to "preserve the dignity of the Knights of Favonius while also providing a way of settling old grievances." The guards take it that 'tea break' is code for sparring. The story then notes that this happens almost on a monthly basis and the 'sparring ritual' doesn't make much noise for some reason.

In Chapter 4, after Amber flies down with Collei, they find Jean and Lisa having tea together in the middle of the night. Amber finds out that they are investigating the Black Fire incident as well. Jean then introduces Lisa to Amber, to which Lisa says that Jean owed her "a nice cup of lovely sweet tea" for making her do research for 2 days without rest on the incident.
In Chapter 6, Jean later finds out through tattered Fatui research papers that Diluc's father, Crepus, was the previous delusion owner. She then requests for Lisa to go question Diluc about his involvement. Lisa then says, "I don't think I can turn down a request from Jean."
In Chapter 7, Lisa reaches his manor. Diluc says that he doesn't have anything to do with the incident. Lisa then says that after the new evidence they found from the carriage explosion, they think that the same culprit was behind what happened to his father three years ago. Diluc is shocked at Lisa's reveal. However, his expression returns to stoney faced frustration before asking Lisa if it was Jean who had told her the secret behind his father's death, which Lisa affirms much to Diluc's annoyance. Soon after he recounts the day of his father's death, affirming Jean and Lisa's theory.
Story Quests[]
Troublesome Work:[]
When the Traveler finds out that Jean and Lisa occasionally go for tea at the Good Hunter ("She's been here a few times with Master Jean for afternoon tea before."). Later on in the story quest, when it's time to pick a dish that Lisa would like, there is a hidden Easter egg option (Invigorating Pizza) that is only unlocked if you obtained the recipe for Jean's signature dish or have Jean herself. When you pick this dish, Lisa says, "*gasp* It's like you read my mind. Do you have some magical powers you've not been telling me about, Outlander?" After you order the dish, Lisa says, "Wow, Jean must have given you some pointers? Such extraordinary lengths to prepare for a delicious meal... I'd almost say that's cheating. I didn't know you and Jean got on so well. She used to make this for me once in a while too. As it happens, this is exactly what I was craving - the perfect treat after a tiresome day of work. You've outdone yourself."
Later, when it's time to pick a flower for Lisa and you choose to give her a dandelion, she says, "Dandelions? They actually sell dandelions? They have a refreshing scent, similar to the one Jean wears. Thank you." In the Chinese text, Lisa instead states, "These [dandelions] smell like the sweet scent on Jean's body."
Master's Day Off:[]
In Jean's story quest, upon meeting Lisa with Charles, the Traveler asks if she is there for the tax issues. Lisa tells the Traveler that they are right, saying "After I heard about my poor Jean, I thought I might lend a hand with some of her more literary duties". Given Lisa's dislike of excessive work, her immediate assistance showcases how she cares for Jean.
Events[]
Windblume Festival:[]
During the Windblume festival, the pair go on patrols to keep order at the event. While this is usually Jean's responsibility, Lisa joins her at Jean's request. Many characters note how unusual it is for the Acting Grand Master to choose a librarian to accompany her on patrols. Despite this, Jean defends her choice in choosing Lisa to accompany her.
In "Missive Cloud and Fog", Kaeya instructs the Traveler to send official documents to the cathedral. When they reach there, they find Jean and Lisa bickering about how Lisa is electrocuting drunkards. At the end of the conversation, Jean tells the Traveller to not worry and that she will keep her eyes on Lisa. To which Lisa teasingly says that if Jean doesn't like it, she can happily refrain.
At the end of the event, Jean and Lisa are seen walking side by side past Marjorie's shop, celebrating how much they enjoyed spending time together again, after which Lisa notes nostalgically that they have not dined together for quite a long time implying the two went to have dinner afterwards.
Midsummer Island Adventure:[]
Before the characters travel to the Golden Apple Archipelago, Lisa packs a pouch for Jean and gives it to her, telling her to only open it in case of emergencies. Though Kaeya was initially the one in charge of the order and the city, he leaves the job to Lisa. The second day on the island, Traveler and Paimon wake up to find Jean and Barbara in their summer outfits. Paimon notes that Paimon finds it surprising that Jean would pack summer clothes, in which Barbara corrects her, saying that Jean would never pack them herself-as Lisa and Barbara actually picked them out for her. Jean mentions that she was surprised that the pouch contained summer clothes. Paimon then notes that with all the accessories on the outfit, it is definitely Lisa's handiwork.
When you interact with Jean and ask her about how work is with the knights, Jean notes that she is the first to be grateful for that. Thanks to Lisa's presence, she doesn't have to worry about business and plans to give her a gift on her return, glad that she knows what she likes.
Of Drink A-Dreaming Event:[]
When the Traveler and Paimon arrive at their table, Lisa greets the two in her usual friendly manner. Jean admits that it's odd that they're meeting in a tavern, but nonetheless she's glad to see them too. Lisa, seemingly offended, asks Jean what she means by, "a place like this." and adds that the tavern is an excellent place to relax. Lisa then explains how difficult it was to, "drag the Acting Grand Master away from her desk," and that she can see that, "worry is already written all over her [Jean's] face." Paimon notes Jean's guilty expression and tries to defend her by explaining that being Acting Grand Master must be a very difficult and stressful job.
The pair pick up on the tension building between Jean and Lisa, and in an attempt to lighten the mood Paimon offers the Traveller's drinking services so they, "feel a lot better."
Lisa quickly adds that Jean might be the only person who, "needs to be taught how to relax." Before ordering a Love Poem. Jean then follows up with an order of coffee.
Jean's coffee recipe notably includes how the scent, "took the Knight's library by storm." It's known that Jean's favorite drink is coffee and in her Good Evening line, Jean mentions needing to ask Lisa for something stronger than coffee. This implies that Lisa is the one making coffee for Jean; which is an odd task considering that Lisa is a librarian and the job of making beverages certainly falls outside of her jurisdiction.
After being served the drinks Jean mentions that she now understands Lisa's sentiment. She also admits that she fears that her, "stress may even be starting to affect," Lisa. Implying that the reason Jean takes better care of herself is only because she realized her unhealthy habits were beginning to hurt Lisa as well. With this Lisa laughs, perhaps finding her reasoning to be a bit silly as she only meant that Jean should relax more often. However, she seemed slightly relieved that Jean was willing to take care of herself (even if it meant Jean would only do it because she worried for Lisa's health more). The Traveller and Paimon agreed with Lisa, finding Jean's reasoning a bit humorous as well.
The event ends with Jean realizing stress management is her biggest challenge, and Paimon encourages the pair by saying, "the two of you may need even more rest than you'd expect!" The two then thank the Traveller and leave the tavern together.
Hidden Strife:[]
The Traveller and Paimon stumble upon an abandoned campsite. There the two read the second note left by Diluc's friend, where it's written that his friend: "Heard that the captain of the Knights of Favonius Investigation Team is a highly accomplished academic, but unlike Lisa, he is not especially close with the Acting Grand Master". The letter reveals another layer to Jean and Lisa's relationship. Despite Lisa's dubious morality and tendency to evade regulation, at the end of the day her loyalty lies with Jean, and Diluc and his friend realize this. Implying that Diluc suggested going to Lisa first, but realized her connection and loyalty to Jean would doom his plot from the beginning.
Notably, it's interesting that Diluc's friend mentions that Lisa's connection to Jean is "especially close". It further supports the notion that Lisa is Jean's closest friend and confidant.

Lisa's Birthday Art[]
On June 9th 2020, this official art was posted on Mihoyo Twitter account. Lisa sits on a distinctive couch in front of a window. Perceptive fans have found that this combination of couch and window only exists in Jean's office, so it can be inferred that Lisa spent her birthday with Jean.
On June 9th 2021, this official art was posted on Mihoyo's Twitter account. Lisa relaxes in the library, while her table sprawl includes tea and Noelle's special meal, it also notably includes Jean's special meal. With all things considered this was an odd thing Jean did, as she is notoriously busy and she didn't prep a meal for Barbara, Diluc, Kaeya, or Eula's birthdays either.
Klee's Birthday Art[]
On July 27th 2021, this official art was posted on Mihoyo's Twitter account. Where Jean, Lisa, Amber, Kaeya, and Albedo are shown watching Klee find her birthday gift.
Manga Anthologies[]

While technically not canon, as it was published in one of Mihoyo Genshin's comic anthologies, Jean and Lisa also can be found helping Lumine climb the cliffs in Chapter 4 of the Lumine compilation. This story plays on Lisa's memetic sexual sounding moans, revealing that these sounds are in fact her "battle cries". Since the cliff turns out to be more difficult than Jean thought, Lisa tries to teach her to do it herself, actually for several pages convincing the first to moan loudly.
Character Tales - "Fleeing Sunlight in the Night"[]
Klee explains to the viewer that Kaeya told her that at night various monsters dressed up as the Knights of Favonious attack Mondstadt. As the camera pans out, it's shown that Jean and Lisa were standing in the doorway together while Klee told her story. Jean seems exhausted by the tale while Lisa seems to find it endearing. Lisa then adds that perhaps they've made Klee's studies too imaginative. Implying that the pair work together to raise/educate Klee.
Giveaway/Ad Campaign[]
The official Japanese Genshin Twitter account announced a giveaway where players could win Genshin gifts and Amazon giftcards. If players fail to win any gifts they were shown pictures with various Genshin characters who discuss ways to relieve stress/sadness. This user found that Jean's response references a previous voiceline in game that involves Lisa. It was later translated into English by this user.
Jean's response was translated as followed. "How to cope with feeling stressed? Let's see... When I completely devote myself to my work, I'm able to clear my mind of anything that might be troubling me. Here, Lisa recently gave me an experimental drug that prevents you from sleeping. I'll give you one too." This line references a previous in-game voiceline where Jean ponders asking Lisa for something stronger than coffee so she can stay awake for longer periods of time.

Fanon[]
Jeanlisa is the first femslash ship in the franchise. This is helped by the rather simple logic of the ship: both girls are close friends and if desired, fans won't have much trouble reading their relationship as potential or outrightly romantic. The romantic dynamic is fueled by their repeated mention of each other. It happens so often that it's joked that Jean is always quick to bring up Lisa even if the question asked of her has zero relation to Lisa at all. Lisa also has the habit of continuously mentioning Jean during quests, and the two often almost always appear together. There are few instances of Jean appearing in story quests without Lisa, and there are even fewer instances of Lisa showing up without Jean.
Many people also love how their opposite personalities fit together. For example, the traditionally lazy and sarcastic Lisa is quick to get serious if Jean needs her help. While Jean, by her own admission, feels at ease when Lisa is around, and can become notably calmer after speaking to Lisa.
A rising headcanon amongst fans is that Jean and Lisa have founded quite the large family. Fanart and fanfiction typically include the pair raising Klee, Razor, and Fischl as their children. Klee because the pair currently take care of her, Razor because he and Lisa share a mother-son bond, and Fischl is included as many see her as a love-child of the two. (Jean's hair-colour and sense of loyalty, Lisa's eye-colour and her love for novels).
As a fairly logical and popular ship, Jeanlisa only has one rival. The other being Jeanluc, which is the most popular het ship for Jean and Diluc. Since both ships have a fairly dedicated fanbase and appear quite early in the game, mentioning one of them on major resources often creates a certain tension and potential for a ship war.
At the moment, this ship is the second most popular femslash ship in the Genshin Impact on AO3 after Beiguang and one of the only femslash ship in the ten most popular ships of the franchise on the resource. Accordingly, Jeanlisa is the most written ship for both characters. It currently has 2500+ works in AO3.

Trivia[]
- In the collaborative project from update 1.6 that involved the Knights of Favonius and Diluc in creating Jean's summer outfit, Lisa, along with Barbara, searched every store to choose the design for it. Moreover, Lisa was also the one who provided Jean's exact measurements and even personally sewed rose ornaments and attached them to the outfit herself. ("And the detailed dimensions were provided by Lisa, who even sewed this lovely rose ornament on personally")
- Lisa's birthday art and Jean's birthday art demonstrates the participation of both women in celebrating each other's birthday, as they receive signature dishes from one another.
- They both favor the 'Amidst Poetic Pondering' furnishing set in the Serenitea Pot.
- The official Mihoyo Twitter account retweeted two fan-arts featuring Jean and Lisa together.
- They share remarkable similarities with a pairing from Mihoyo's other game Honkai Impact. Jean is most like Durandal in both appearance and personality, while Lisa looks and acts like Rita. The two pairings even share the blue rose motif and dynamic (hard working, perfectionist leaders and their laid-back, morally dubious closest confidants).
- In a recent interview the CEO of Mihoyo has confirmed that Genshin Impact and Honkai Impact exist within the same universe. This gives more credit to the theory that Jean and Lisa are Durandal and Rita's Genshin counterparts.
- On February 14, 2022, the official Genshin Impact Twitter account released Valentine's Day art where Jean gently holds someone's smaller (gloveless) hand with a gift behind her back. Since Jean is pictured in the library, and Lisa notably has a line about her gloves recently being ruined, along with the fact Jean admitted she wanted to bring Lisa a gift back from the archipelago, many fans like to think Jean is holding Lisa's hand.
- This user found an interesting tavern board where the owner seems to chide a patron for buying a store-bought gift for a loved one. The owner begins their rant with, "If it's a gift for a loved one, then it should be handmade by you. Buying gifts from off the shelf only shows that you don't love her that much." This is interesting as the description for Jean's summer outfit seems to go out of its way to repeatedly mention how Lisa's contributions to Jean's outfit (the blue roses on her wrist and waist) were not only hand-made, but extremely difficult to make. And throughout the Golden Apple Archipelago Event, several characters continue to bring up how Jean's outfit was obviously made by Lisa.
- It should also be noted that while Jean knew Diluc, Kaeya, Amber, and Barbara all took part in making her outfit, she only acknowledged and thanked Lisa for her contributions. Going as far telling the Traveller that she was going to bring a gift back for Lisa, despite never thanking or gifting Diluc, Kaeya, and Barbara anything despite their proximity to her during the event.
- Lisa's official alternative birthday art that was posted on June 8, 2022 featured the Traveller and Paimon meeting Lisa in the library. Notably, on her desk is a vase full of blue roses. While roses are shared by three characters, blue roses have only been used with Jean, specifically in relation to Lisa. While it's not confirmed fans have theorized that the blue roses were sent by Jean.
- Jean's office and Lisa's office in the library have the same teapot. Meticulous players have noticed that the teapot is the same pattern as the bottom of Lisa's hat.
- Both of their idle animations have them grabbing and staring at a flower. Jean grabs a dandelion before blowing off the seeds and letting them fly into the wind. Meanwhile, Lisa grabs a Sumeru rose and stares at it before tossing it to the side.
