Alright, you wanna know my deal? My deal is above all else honesty. You tell me the truth, I will like you; you lie to me, I will never talk to you again, that's my deal
—Britta[1]

Jeff and Britta meet when Jeff, after getting info on Britta from Abed, starts a fake Spanish 101 study group to get a chance of sleeping with her. He approaches Britta in the cafeteria and she immediately shoots down his advances, seeing right through him, but he rebounds with the study group and momentarily convinces Britta that he's for real. Jeff practices saying hello as Britta walks into the library study room and enthusiastically greets her. She apologises for being curt when they met, saying she's not good at small talk. Jeff tries to charm her and Britta lays down the law: she's just looking ofr honesty. Jeff reveals that he will say anything to get her to like him and Britta determines she finds him okay. Abed then arrives, as Britta has invited him to the group. Jeff tries to get remedy the situation, unsuccessfully, then goes off to meet with Duncan. When he returns, four other people have joined the group on Abed's invitation and Britta's gone. Jeff leaves and bumps into Britta outside, who's smoking. He asks her out and she wants to study first, so Jeff sets off to prove that the group will not work out.

What, so, this is a game to you? You put human beings into a state of emotional shambles for a shot at getting in my pants?
—Britta

As they come back in, Pierce introduces himself and then the rest of the group, being both racist and sexually harassing. The tension in the group of strangers is almost immediate and Britta tries to defuse it, but Jeff grabs Britta's hand and starts stoking the fire. He then gets interrupted by Duncan again and leaves again, to Britta's exasperation. When he returns, he finally reveals his true intentions and Britta is appalled. She reluctantly agrees to go out with him if he stops the group's disputes. Jeff does so with a massive speech and Britta, in turn, reveals that she lied to him, reveals that he caused the fight and asks him to leave. For some reason, Jeff gets upset at his play not working, tells them he has the test answers and that he was a lawyer. Abed makes another film reference about him and Jeff attacks Abed, which appalls everyone, and leaves. After he finds out Duncan tricked him, Jeff bumps into Pierce and then the rest of the group. They actually comfort him and everyone asks Britta to give him a second chance, to which she reluctantly agrees.[1]

Jeff“I am. I'd be happy to show you the ropes[2]

Jeff is intentionally late to the study group meetings to avoid personal interactions with everyone, but they all shower him with affection regardless, except Britta, who calls him out on it, but he deflects it with ease. After the meeting, Jeff attempts to hit on Britta again, this time by 'acknowledging' his horrid first impression, but Britta still sees through him, telling him he's cute, but selfish and that she's not interested. In Spanish 101, everyone's paired up and Jeff tries to rig it so he and Britta are partnered, but she's streets ahead of him, and rigged it so they wouldn't be paired. Jeff is paired with Pierce who tries to hang out with him, but he's eventually so frustrated he leaves, upon learning from Troy that there's a protest about one of Britta's causes in the quad. Jeff gets a piece of tape and a candle for the silent vigil at Shirley and Annie's booth, the bribes a student with a sign for it, and sneaks up to stand next to Britta. Britta, meanwhile, has realised from Shirley and Annie's actions that she's all talk when it comes to activism and eases up on Jeff and is the first to say something, albeit still in keeping with their banter. Jeff acknowledges Britta's 'activism' as a cause of the vigil and Britta admits her realisation about herself. Pierce interrupts their moment, hurt and yelling at Jeff. Pierce reveals Jeff is pretending to 'care about the stupid stuff Britta cares about'. Jeff then further insults Pierce to get rid of him, and Pierce is about to hit Jeff, but his arm catches on fire and he runs, diving into the fountain. Jeff tells Britta that Pierce is fine and she looks at Jeff incredulously.[2]

A few episodes in, they decide they both want to be friends with each other despite their rough start.
There is build up of their relationship for the rest of the season, culminating with them sleeping together in season 1 episode 23: 'Modern Warfare'. They agree to not talk about it, but in the season finale, Britta confesses her feelings to Jeff at a school dance. He walks out of the situation.

In the beginning of the second season, Britta gains popularity due to her rejection and Jeff confesses to her, expecting her to turn him down as well so they can be even, but she accepts and they start dating. After Annie finds out about this, she punches him in the face for leading her on by kissing her, and Britta feels betrayed and breaks up with him.

In season 2 episode 21: 'Paradigms of human memory', it is revealed that Jeff and Britta continued sleeping with each other in secret after Modern Warfare. The rest of the study group is mad at them, but decides they are allowed to continue the relationship. They stop doing it after that because it was boring without the secrecy. They continue as friends for the rest of the series.

In the season 5 finale, in an act of desperation, Jeff and Britta decide to get married because they feel they will have not accomplished anything if they don't do this. Annie is upset about this and tries to persuade them to not do it. They break up at the end of the episode again after Greendale is saved.

'Community': Are Jeff and Britta Getting Married? (BUSTLE • APRIL 2014)
Jeff and Britta aren't a "real" sitcom couple at all—if such a thing can even be said to exist. They are a satire of sitcom couples. Their courtship is a plot device that Community creator Dan Harmon uses to satirize the whole, done-to-death will-they-or-won't-they sitcom premise
