Jekffin is the slash ship between Henry Jekyll and Griffin from the Jekyll and Hyde, The Invisible Man and The Glass Scientists fandoms.

Canon[]

Jekyll and Griffin are both scientists and the titular characters of their respective stories. Though Griffin is a villain protagonist for every version of his story, Jekyll's story is only told from his point-of-view in the last chapter, which is often the only part adaptations focus only. Though they are both shown to cause the entire plot of their stories with their experiments, Griffin doesn't seem to hold any degree in science, unlike Doctor Jekyll. In both stories, the two men are motivated to keep their identities a secret, so they brew a potion to conceal it. Griffin's potion turns him invisible, while Jekyll's makes him unrecognizable and naming his new identity "Edward Hyde". Both stories end with them dying, but while Griffin becomes visible again, Jekyll dies as Hyde after a side effect of the potion led to him permanently turning into him.

The Glass Scientists[]

Within the comic, Griffin is one of the "Lodgers", rogue scientists Jekyll had recruited to give them a place to stay in his Society for Arcane Science, being allowed to do their research unbothered by the outside world.

In Griffin's introduction, the newest recruit Jasper witnesses Griffin struggling to turn a cat invisible, having successfully done so with a group of lab rats. Jekyll seems to be used to Griffin's antics, smiling when asking Griffin if he'll be able to catch all the rats until next Thursday. Griffin seems annoyed when answering Jekyll, clearly just trying to get him off his back.

Later, when Hyde runs into the Creature carrying its creator, he is asked where it can find Jekyll for it being an emergency. Hyde leads the Creature to the Society, where Griffin and the other Lodgers are thrilled to be paid a visit by none other than Frankenstein in the flesh. However, everyone quickly realizes that Creature was stalked by Dr. Moreau. Jekyll is aware of what is happening, but can only tell Hyde to not fight Moreau alone, Hyde interprets that as rallying the Lodgers against Moreau and his creations.

Unfortunately, Hyde taking out Moreau by letting a huge log fall onto him while Moreau was using his flamethrower caused a huge fire in London, leading to the Lodgers being blamed for it and collectively arrested. The next day, Jekyll expects himself to be able to charm his way into having the Sergeant let the Lodgers and Creature go free. However, the Sergeant only agrees to let them when Jekyll puts all the blame on Hyde, with Jekyll claiming that they will serve as witnesses against him.

But when Frankenstein regains consciousness, all the Lodgers swarm her with questions after she gives Jekyll a right hook, believing him to be fraud who tarnished the meaning of "mad science". Frankenstein manages to get most of the Lodgers on her side, to the point where Jekyll's attempts to debate with Frankenstein only leads to most of them (including Griffin) just looking at him annoyed.

But later, when Jekyll not only manages to cure Frankenstein's illness, it leads to the Lodgers regaining their belief in them. Shortly before the presentation the Lodgers had been preparing weeks in advance could start, Griffin and Jekyll have another one-to-one talk as Griffin had managed to turn his cat Perseus invisible, but can't find him at that moment. When Griffin asks Jekyll if he had seen him, Jekyll tells him that he'll keep and "ear" out and watches Griffin continue his search, arguing that he'll be fine. But when Jekyll passes out due to Hyde's meddling right when giving his big speech, all the Lodgers worry about him until he regains consciousness. Jekyll finds out that, though the event was a failure by technicality, a good number of his scientists had gotten the chance to have new patrons sponsoring their research. So Griffin and the others are very relieved to see Jekyll turning out fine, when they celebrate the occasion, Jasper urges Jekyll to sing a Scottish ballad for them. Jekyll is at first hesitant, but soon all the Lodgers join, singing, dancing and playing instruments long after Jekyll himself stopped singing.

Fanon[]

Jekffin is a notable crossover ship in both fandoms, largely because many fans realized how similar their motivations are, yet how their approaches differ.

Within the Glass Scientists fandom, Jekffin has moderate popularity, largely because Griffin is more of a bit character. However, it is by far the most popular ship between Jekyll and the Lodgers, largely because Griffin has an established fanbase, with many wishing he could be more than just the occasional cameo.
