Canon[]

Charlotte Moon and Lee Ji-hyun were two members of the Horror Times livestream team who entered the infamous Gonjiam Psychiatric Hospital in hopes of capturing paranormal activity. Although they hadn’t known each other before the expedition, they quickly formed a friendly bond upon meeting in the woods, where the group gathered before entering the asylum. Charlotte, being a foreigner, and Ji-hyun, a soft-spoken and kind-hearted Korean girl, showed a natural comfort in each other's presence. As part of the livestream plan, the director, Ha-joon, paired up the members to explore different haunted areas of the hospital. Charlotte and Ji-hyun were assigned together. This allowed their dynamic to grow, and they shared moments of light-hearted conversation and mutual support before the terror began to escalate. While exploring one of the rooms filled with creepy dolls, Charlotte and Ji-hyun experienced disturbing phenomena: objects moving on their own, whispering voices, and an overwhelming feeling of dread. As they ventured deeper into the asylum, the supernatural activity intensified. Eventually, the two were sent to investigate Room 402—rumored to be the most haunted room in the hospital. Once inside, the door slammed shut behind them, locking them in. Ji-hyun began to panic, and soon, she became visibly possessed. Her demeanor changed drastically—her eyes turned completely black, and she started muttering incoherently, a clear sign that she was no longer in control of herself. Charlotte, terrified but concerned for her partner, tried to help and calm her, but Ji-hyun ultimately disappeared under mysterious circumstances, leaving Charlotte alone and devastated. Charlotte was then attacked by an unseen force. Trapped and isolated in Room 402, she screamed in fear before being violently killed by a ghost. Though there was no explicit romance between them, many fans interpret their partnership as meaningful and emotionally charged. Their shared journey, growing trust, and tragic fate have made Charlotte and Ji-hyun a compelling duo within the horror fandom. Charlotte’s desperate attempt to save Ji-hyun and her eventual death at the hands of the spirits left a haunting impression on audiences.

Fanon[]

The ship between Charlotte and Ji-hyun is considered somewhat rare and unconventional within the Gonjiam: Haunted Asylum fandom. Although their bond was brief and mostly limited to the events inside the asylum, many fans were drawn to their chemistry, especially during the more intense and emotional moments they shared. The way Charlotte showed concern for Ji-hyun and how their tragic fates intertwined sparked the imagination of shippers who saw something deeper behind their partnership.

However, this pairing is not as popular as others in the fandom. Ji-hyun is more commonly shipped with Sung-hoon, another member of the team who also explored the hospital and had more visible screen time and interactions with her. At the same time, Charlotte is occasionally shipped with Sung-hoon as well, particularly due to their shared scenes and the fact that they both came from more energetic and bold personalities, which some fans find complementary.

Despite being a rare ship, Charlotte x Ji-hyun (often called JiLotte, HyunLotte, or JHarlotte by fans) has a small but passionate following. The ship is usually explored in alternate universes (AUs), headcanons, or fan edits where their bond is expanded upon—often imagining them surviving the asylum together, developing feelings, or protecting one another from the horrors that surrounded them.

Fanon often portrays Ji-hyun as the quieter, emotionally sensitive one, while Charlotte is the more outgoing, protective type. This dynamic—commonly described as “soft x strong”—appeals to fans who enjoy opposites-attract relationships with emotional depth.
