Jily is the het ship between James Potter and Lily Evans from the Harry Potter fandom.

Lily's relationship with James Potter was initially a volatile one. They first met on the train just before the start of their first year at Hogwarts, where Lily was upset by James and Sirius Black's mocking of her best friend, Severus Snape. Although James was a popular student and a talented Quidditch player, well-liked by most, Lily considered him an arrogant bully and treated him with contempt. This was probably due in part to James' hostile relationship with Snape, and in part to his bad habit of hexing innocent students just for fun. In his fifth year, James began to have romantic feelings for Lily, and would try to impress her, without success.
In the fifth year, Lily defended her friend Snape from his bullies, which included James and Sirius, though Snape called Lily a "filthy mudblood" in a fit of rage and humiliation when she talked more to James, which was the last straw of their friendship for Lily. Years later, their future son Harry would witness this event through one of Snape's own memories. Harry began to question how his mother came to marry James in the first place, but their old friend Lupin assured him that James and Lily loved each other, and that he had matured somewhat over the years. However, it is implied that James still had the desire to bully Snape and that both boys cursed each other, but James was willing to stop in front of Lily.
By the fifth year, Lily was already attracted to James, but still refused to go out with him until the seventh year. It seems that by then James had "deflated his head a bit" and stopped hexing people "for the fun of it". She eventually began dating him and fell deeply in love with James. In 1977, while both were still students at Hogwarts, James met Lily's sister, Petunia, for the first time. The meeting was disastrous, as Petunia's then-boyfriend, Vernon, showed off his car, and James in turn bragged about his wealth, leading to a huge fight and Lily bursting into tears. This was the trigger event that caused Lily and Petunia to resent each other and cutting ties.
Between 1978 and the fall of 1979, Lily and James married shortly after graduating from Hogwarts. The two joined the Order of the Phoenix and on three separate occasions defied Lord Voldemort. After the prophecy was revealed, they went into hiding in their cottage in Godric's Hollow, living off the Potter inheritance, while devoting themselves exclusively to opposing Voldemort's war. In this situation, Lily gave birth to their first and only son: Harry Potter.
Lily loved her husband, James, dearly, as evidenced when Lily screamed James' name when she saw him being murdered by Voldemort as he entered their home. Her Patronus took the form of a doe to match her husband's, which was a stag. Lily's sacrifice of love saved her son from Voldemort's attempted murder, and a statue of the couple, called "Potter's Memorial" was erected in Godric Hollows in honor of their heroic deaths. The couple's remains were buried together with a shared tombstone located in the graveyard of Godric's Hollow.

Jily is a popular pairing in the Harry Potter fandom, and its most notable rival ship is Snily. Jily shippers usually point out that while James changed for the better during his school years, Snape changed for the worse when he joined the Death Eaters. Most fanwork of Jily takes place during their school years, though there are AUs where they survive.
Fanfictions often explore how exactly James and Lily got together, and some speculate that Lily may have married while pregnant. Other parts of the fandom like to delve into their time during the war, when they lived in hiding and fought heroically against the Death Eaters.

Harry James Potter (born July 31, 1980) was a half-blood wizard, the first and only son of James Potter and Lily Evans, and one of the most famous wizards of modern times. In a vain attempt to circumvent a prophecy that a boy born at the end of July 1980 would be able to defeat him, Voldemort attempted to murder him when he was one year and three months old, shortly after murdering Harry's parents as they tried to protect him. This early, unsuccessful attempt to defeat Harry led to Voldemort's first defeat and the end of the First Wizarding War. One consequence of Lily's protection is that her orphaned son had to be raised by her only remaining blood relative, Petunia Dursley, where he was neither welcomed nor nurtured, but would live at least until he was seventeen years old. As the only known survivor of the Killing Curse, Harry was already famous before he arrived at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
