Part 1

Jim and Toby are best friends, while Claire is the girl Jim has a crush on and because Jim struggles with talking to Claire about the feelings he has for her, Toby lends his friend a hand whenever he can. Even though Toby doesn't have a girlfriend he has done his homework on girls and how guys like them should approach them. As for Claire she didn't pay either one of the two some mind, since she mainly focused on her studies, the school play and spends her time with her friends. After Jim was picked by the Amulet of Daylight and drags both boys into the secret world of trolls, Jim and Toby spent the first part of Trollhunters keeping their new second lives a secret from Claire. Even though the world trolls has a habit of finding its way to her, when her baby brother was swapped with a changeling (that the two have named "NotEnrique") and with Jim's letter to Claire having hints about it. Jim had also written Toby a simply letter encase he died in his battle with Draal, and he wanted both Toby and Claire to know how much he cares about them. Claire's curiosity of what Jim and Toby have been up to, along with goblins believing that it was her who warmed one of their friends, the boys decide to let Claire in on their secret. As well as their trollhunting duties.

At first Toby wasn't happy with the attention Claire was getting from both Jim and the other trolls, as he felt that she was out shining him in the group he stared with Jim. Who has promised Claire that they'll do whatever they can to save her brother from the darklands. Toby's jealousy grew after Claire got her hand on the shadow staff, along with Jim not being angry with Claire for losing the second stone they need. This has him getting his hands on a magical Warhammer so he too can have a magical weapon like Jim and Claire do. When school kept Jim from fulfilling one of his Trollhunter duties, Toby and Claire offered to cover it for him. By the time Jim was finally free to join the two in Troll Market, Toby and Claire were finally able to except one another as teammates and friends, Jim wasn't sure how it happened but is glad to know that the two are finally getting along with each other.

Part 2

After Jim went into the Darklands with out his friends, Toby and Claire got their hands on a magical mask that allows the wearer to look and sound like any one. The two use this mask to make everyone believe that Jim is still in Arcadia. Toby pretends to be his friend for Jim's home life, before handing the mask to Claire so she can cover for Jim at school. When the two aren't covering for their friend, their trying to find away to bring Jim back home.

Part 3

Two weeks after the three got the surviving trolls out of Troll Market, they had began to place campaign signs that are enchanted with Gumm-Gumm deterrent spell to keep the town safe from them. As they work on a plan to defeat Gummar, while making sure that their troll friends are kept safe. Claire was still suffering from the illness she got after creating the large portal, and both Jim and Toby weren't sure if Claire should be joining them on patrol until she recovers from it.

After Merlin's transformation elixir teleports Jim out of the house when it turns him into a half-troll, he finds his way back home before he collapses. As Jim slept Toby and Claire stay by his side until he wakes up. Jim didn't know what his new half-troll appearance would have him look like now until after he saw that one of his hands has changed, before using a toaster to serve as a mirror. Toby could see that his friend wasn't taking it well and tries to cheer Jim up with ways how they could make him look a bit more human again, with sunglasses, a haircut and a trip to his dentist, while Claire reassures Jim that he isn't hideous like he clams himself to be. Even though Jim has changed and is a bit more troll than human now, Toby and Claire still care about Jim for who he is. After Jim learned the few good things about his new form begins to except it, but after Claire and Toby lost sight of Jim during training and became worried, he uncovers the down sides that will keep him from living in their human world. When Claire and Toby saw Merlin they damage the wizard to turn Jim back once Gummar is defeated, but Merlin informs them that Jim's new troll half is permanent. Once the two finally find Jim at their school they reassure him that while his life as a human is over, he is still Jim and they'll be there to help him through his new troll life.

With the Heartstone under Arcadia drained of life, Jim joins the trolls in their search for a new Heartstone in New Jerzy and when it was time to go Claire's parents allow her to leave with him. Toby also wanted to join Jim and Claire on their new quest, but the two convince him to stay behind in order to keep Arcadia safe in their absence. Since Jim is still injured from their battle with Morgana and Claire's Shadow Staff was destroyed, while Toby still has his magical Warhammer and AAARRRGGHH!!! has chosen to stay behind with him. Before Jim and Claire leave they hug Toby as they make the promise of them returning someday and how they'll get tacos and entradas when they do. Toby then stands beside Jim and Claires' families and shared loved ones as they watch the two leave with Merlin and the rest of the trolls. While Claire walks on ahead Jim takes the time to have one last look back at Toby and the others with a smile.

3Below

Even though part one of 3Below takes place in the same timeline as part three of Trollhunters, the three don't have a lot of shared appearances in it, since the second show arc is of the friends the three had made in "In Good Hands". Along with part two taking place after Jim and Claire had left Arcadia, but from time to time Toby does mention Jim and Claire to Aja and Krel.

"D'aja Vu" begins with Jim, Toby, Claire and the rest of Team Trollhunters catching after a Trickster troll named Porgon. Who manages to escape after the troll finds a piece of alien technology from Akiridion-5. The trio had no idea how he was able to do that as it began a time loop that only Jim remembers, until he meets an Akiridion named Aja Tarron who uses her serrator to protect Claire and Tobys' memories of the time loop. During the first few repeated days as Jim asks Aja questions about her "bubble thing", Toby and Claire attack Porgon until he retests the day, over and over again. Until Jim has the two meet Aja and Krel in the forest next to the Observatory, as they share one another's troll and alien related secrets and how they need to work together. The trio enjoy getting to know their new Akiridion friends and even though they helped them to defeat Porgon, the joined groups ended up exposing their big secrets to a large crowed of people and the police and the only way to their mistake was to reset the day one last time. That will have the main Trollhunters trio succeeding in their pursuit for Porgon, by having the piece of Akiridion tech destroy itself on the night he found it. Before they made the jump back to the said night, the three were sad of the fact that their plan will prevent the time loop from happening and their shared memories of it will be forgotten, but Blinky reassures them that the friendship they formed with the Tarrons will still be there and will have fate bring them back together again.

Even though "Lightning in a Bottle" is the 3Below side of events in "In Good Hands", there are a few differences between the two episodes of the same event. The trio's first appearance in the episode is of them using one of Claire's shadow portals to bring them to the woods, after they left Merlin's tomb and have Chompsky serve as Claire's emotional anchor to the location. As the three walk back to town Jim offences to cook them something, but because the dish he plans to make involves fungi Claire asks him if he is sure about his choice, due to what they have just went through. While Toby reassures Chompsky that they will get his "girlfriend" the toy scooter, after they save the world. Like in "In Good Hands", the three take Aja and Krel Tarron on a tour of Arcadia while collecting items on Merlin's lest. When Toby saw Aja he tells Jim and Claire that she is the burrito girl he met in "Terra Incognita Part Two". Before they began their tour, the three had heard about a math duel and were surprised to learn that Krel is the one who'll be facing Shannon Longhannon in it. After the three thanks the Tarron for helping them get lightning in a bottle and were about to part ways, Aja calls them "Trollhunters".

After General Morando was defeated Toby can see that Steve is upset by Aja and Eli leaving Earth with the rest of the Akiridions, so he tells Steve how he has went through something similar from when Jim and Claire left for New Jerzy with the trolls.

Wizards

After Toby met Archie at the end of 3Below before learning that Merlin is back in Arcadia, he is reunited with Jim and Claire; even though Jim has been encased on a large green crystal to prevent a magical shard from piercing deeper into his chest until it reaches Jim's heart. This has Claire feeling terrible for failing to protect Jim, while Toby felt angry and wants to fight the Green Knight for hurting his friends. When the Arcadian Order attacks the Guardians of Arcadia, Toby helps Claire and the others to do whatever they can to prevent them from taking Jim away. Up until Jim and Claire, along with Steve and the young wizard Douxie Casperan, end up being sent to the past, while Toby stayed behind in the present wondering where and when in time they were sent to. In order to get back home and regroup with Toby and the others, while not making any mistakes that would endanger the future and Toby with it, Claire helps Douxie to find away back to their timeline while doing whatever she can to protect Jim.

By the time Jim and Claire finally managed to return back to the present, where it was minuets after they were sent to the past, they are able to get Toby onto their flying vessel before the flying castle crashes on top of their school. With the Arcane Order attacking his friends, Jim sacrifices his humanity to buy them enough time to escape. Even if it means that he'll become a puppet of the Green Knight, who will order him to attack his friends, until Claire, Toby and the others are able to save him. Which they do shortly after both the Green Knight and the Arcane Order were defeated, along with Claire's love for Jim turning him back into a human. Even though Jim is able to live life as a human again with two of his best friends, he steals a glance back at the now masterless Excalibur.

Jlaireby is the main poly/friendship ship in the first Tales of Arcadia story, Trollhunters. After Jim was transformed into a half-troll in part three, fans began to depict TrollJim in their fan work of the ship. Since many believed that Jim would stay that way for the rest of his life, until Toby and Claire see human Jim appear from the rubble of his former beast form at the end of Wizards. This inspired fans to write fanfics of Claire and Jim catching up with Toby after Wizards, as they celebrate Jim being reverted back to his normal human self again; while eating tacos and entradas like he and Claire had promised Toby they would.

On AO3, the ship has 32 fanfics, while FanFiction.net has 71 with 3 placed under paring in its Trollhunters category. The ship is also supported on Tumblr.
