JonMartin is the slash ship between Jonathan Sims and Martin Blackwood from The Magnus Archives fandom.
Canon[]
Pre-canon[]
In the Magnus Archives Liveshow, it is shown that the two first met shortly after Jon was promoted to head archivist. He was just finished with reading a statement when Martin walked in, asking whether he had seen a dog. Jon replies negatively and demands to know who Martin is. Martin awkwardly introduces himself and says that Elias transferred him from the library, much to Jon's dismay. He says he was making friends with a dog outside and accidentally let it in. Jon realizes he is in position to fire Martin and reminds him of it, demanding him to do something about the dog quickly. Martin apologizes multiple times and leaves to do so.

THE MASQUERADE
When Elias is figuring out if Martin is helping Jon by distracting him, Elias asks if Jon put him up to it. After Martin lies and refuses, Elias states that it would be exactly something he would do because Martin would do anything for him. And he “didn’t have to read his mind to know this”. After saying this Martin goes quiet and stumbles his words afterwards.
EYE CONTACT
Martin gets Elias arrested and taking his place is Peter,, after he and a Martin meet he says that Elias told him that Martin would predictably be keeping an eye on the archivist’s (Jon) condition. (Jon got put in the hospital from events that unfolded in ‘THE MASQUERADE’).

TRAILER
Martin is at the hospital, having a one-sided conversation with a comatose Jon. He ends up crying while talking, and telling Jon that the archival assistants needed him. At the end of the trailer, he leaves the room, saying goodbye and that he was sorry.
WEB DEVELOPMENT
After Jon wakes up from a coma and returns to the institute, Basira says that Martin is hardly ever in the institute because what happened to Jon hit him hard.
SCULPTOR'S TOOLS
Martin realizes that the tape recorder is now on, and asks if it's because Jon is back. He laments that the recorder missed Jon, and that he had missed him too. Peter then appears and says that isn't good. He asks if Martin talked to Jon, and Martin says that he tried not to, but Peter gets why. Martin says that if he avoids him people will be suspicious, but Peter says that they already are. He had hoped time away from Jon would help Martin, but Martin says that Peter told him that Jon might never wake up. Peter says that Jon beat the odd, which is good, but makes things complicated. Martin says a hello won't make a difference, but Peter says Martin needs to be isolated for the power to work. Martin argues that he could just explain it to Jon, but Peter knows that Jon won't take the answer well and would do something rash instead. Martin says that when it's all over he's telling Jon everything, but Peter says that when it's over he won't want to. But he'll be safe, everyone will.
REMAINS TO BE SEEN
Jon tells Basira that he's still on her side, and she says that a lot of people have been saying that lately. Jon asks if Martin said something and Basira explains that Martin had kept insisting that Peter Lukas was still on their side. Basira regrets not shaking answers out of Martin, but he'd been going through a rough time since the attack and with his mother. Jon asks what happened to Martin's mother, and Basira tells him that she died about two months after Jon went into a coma. Martin was trying to hold it together, and asks if Martin told him. Jon says that he didn't, and Basira says that means he doesn't know everything.
SUBMERGED
Jon is able to find Martin, and Martin asks how he was able to. Jon just says that he knows sometimes. Martin tries to make an excuse to leave which Jon knew he would. Martin says that they've been over this and Jon knows that Martin has his own thing and he's not going to question it. Martin thanks him for that, but Jon says that it looks like Martin is going to do something really stupid, and awkwardly apologizes. Martin says that he gets it, and Jon tells him that he just worries. He's working for someone bad, but Martin is aware of this. It's no worse that working for something bad. Jon says that the Eye hasn't gone after their own, given that Peter has vanished two people. Martin says that if it wasn't for him it would be more, and none of this is helping. Jon admits that he misses Martin and Martin finishes his sentence when he suggests that he's lonely. Jon tells him that he heard about his mother and that he's sorry. Martin thanks him and says that it's better this way. Jon says that if Martin needs to talk he's there, but Martin says that he can't. Jon starts to tell Martin that Daisy might be alive, but Martin says he shouldn't know anything. Martin says that he needs to go and that Jon needs to stop finding him. Jon asks what happened, and Martin says that Jon died. Jon says he came back, but Martin's not letting it happen again. Jon is confused but Martin leaves before he can ask him.
THE ARCHITECTURE OF FEAR
At the end of the statement Martin gives, he stops himself from saying he wished he could ask Jon for help. Before the episode ends he mentions compiling tapes for Jon and wishing him good luck. However not before stuttering something under his breath then saying “stay safe”.
CHOSEN
Jon admits that he is worried about Martin and his wellbeing, also saying he needed him to be okay.
Extended Surveillance
After Basira got a tape from Martin, Jon asked about Martin and his wellbeing. Basira responds by saying that on the tape Martin asks Jon to talk to him.
Concrete Jungle
Right as Martin finishes a case he encounters a lady named Georgie who was to meet Melanie, who recognised him, saying that Jon talked about Martin a lot before they stopped seeing each other — hearing this Martin is confused, and says he just needed help, and he’s worth helping.
Big Picture
While Basira confronts Martin on sneaking around the archive avoiding others,, Martin wants to know how Jon has been.
Bloody Mary
When Jon finds a ground breaking discovery of how to leave the institute, the first person he tells is Martin because he admits to trusting him,, and wants him and Martin to escape together. Even disregarding the risk he still hopes to find a way. However Martin rejects the offer.

- Jon and Martin open up about why they still work for the Magnus Institute. Martin admits that he feels like he can't leave even if he wanted to and we see Jon soften towards him, as this is the first time we see Jon talk about his feelings with someone.
Human Remains
- Martin apologizes for leaving Jon and Tim and getting lost in the underground tunnels. Jon forgives him and tells Martin not to worry.

Too Deep
- Jon lies to Martin, telling him that his second tape recorder was lost during Prentiss' attack on the institute.
Grifter's Bone
- Jon begins to keep an eye on Martin, suspicious of his recent behavior. Martin had been very attentive to Jon's needs and recovery from his injuries ever since Prentiss' attack on the institute. Jon reports seeing "competence and perhaps even cunning," from Martin, which made Jon very suspicious as he had only ever viewed Martin as lazy and incompetent beforehand.

- Martin asks Jon if he would like a cup of tea, which Jon declines.
- Jon once again lies to Martin, this time claiming that his photos of Tim were due to a performance evaluation Jon was allegedly working on.
Crusader
- Martin asks Jon if he wants a sandwich. He worries about Jon's physical health after Jon's claim that he accidentally stabbed himself with a butter knife. This lie was a coverup for Michael's attack.

The fans originally called this ship 'the Dinghy' since it seemed like the least likely ship to become canon and it was relatively small. They dropped it after it was clear that JonMartin had more canon moments.
