Julanny is the het ship between Julius the Cat and Fanny Cottontail from the Mickey Mouse and Friends fandom.
Canon[]
Julius the Cat was created during Walt Disney's Laugh-O-Gram Films era, and he served as the animated star of several cartoons and Walt's Alice Comedies. Fanny would be created as the love interest of another Disney character, Oswald the Lucky Rabbit. The two were included in separate animated projects and were never brought together in the same medium. Julius was in fact abandoned after the conclusion of the Alice Comedies series, and Fanny's early animation career was fairly short-lived.
Fanny was considered for inclusion in the Epic Mickey video game series, but she ultimately rejected in favor of Ortensia Whiskers. Fanny would subsequently reappear in the game Disney Speedstorm, and she was also to be included in a later cancelled Oswald animated series. Julius, meanwhile, hasn't appeared in an animated project in decades, but is referenced in the name of the California Adventure theme park store Julius Katz & Sons. It is thus evident that Disney remains aware of the characters but has not seen fit to utilize them for various reasons.
In the event that Julius and Fanny were to become part of Disney's active character pool, it would be a fairly simple matter for the two to interact. Their similar original design aesthetics make it probable that they would appear in a Mickey Mouse and Friends animated project. Failing that, Disney is known for crossover works featuring characters from multiple different properties. A project like this, along the lines of House of Mouse or Once Upon a Studio, would serve as an easy platform for Julius and Fanny's meeting.
Fanon[]
Julanny is a rarepair, despite the origins of the two characters as some of the earliest animated characters created by Walt Disney. Julius was abandoned after being Walt Disney's signature animation character for some time, with Oswald the Lucky Rabbit eventually taking his place accompanied by Fanny. With Fanny herself later being dropped in favor of, of all things, a cat character, Julanny may appeal to fans as a match between two discarded characters. Alternatively, it serves as something of a gender swap version of Oswensia and may thus appeal to fans of that couple.
Both characters have seen some popularity among modern fans, and a few have paired them together. However, in terms of het ships, many still favor Oswanny, the pairing of Fanny and Oswald, or some other ship involving Fanny. Julius is more rarely featured than Fanny, and fan works tend to focus on his relationships with "siblings" like Oswald and Mickey Mouse. This context may also contribute to Julanny's popularity-such as it is-with Fanny perhaps turning to Julius after a falling out with his "brother" Oswald.
There are 2 works tagged for the pairing on AO3.
