JunAki is the slash ship between Junpei Iori and Akihiko Sanada from the Persona fandom.
Canon[]
Junpei first met Akihiko during his first experience of the Dark Hour before Makoto regained consciousness after his awakening against the Arcana Magician. He recruits him due to his high potential for summoning a Persona. Junpei will always refer to Akihiko by his surname instead of his first name (In the original English version, Junpei casually calls Akihiko by his first name).
On the second full moon operation to rescue Fuuka, Akihiko, and Junpei, they are partnered with Makoto to search for her in Tartarus.
During their Yakushima trip, Akihiko and Junpei, along with Makoto, participate in hitting on girls called Operation Babe Hunt (Operation Yakushima Beach Fling in revised English Reload version). After they fail to hit on girls, Akihiko and Junpei become offended if Makoto blames both of them for their failure.
In the manga, a flashback was shown during the incident at Love Hotel, where Arcana Lovers’ manipulation paired up Akihiko and Junpei. Akihiko was the first to regain his senses while Junpei was still under its influence. Disgusted, Akihiko punched Junpei in the face.
Female Route[]
On Yakushima’s first day trip, Junpei asks Akihiko which girls are his type. Akihiko’s answer is unknown, but Junpei is the only one who knows which kind of girls he likes.
During Yakushima’s second day trip, Junpei and Akihiko compete against each other to hit on girls. They both lose since they failed to hit on Aigis when they first met her. After they find out that Aigis is a robot and her strong attachment to Kotone, they lose interest in her.
Film[]
The first film plays very differently; Akihiko and Junpei are paired up together to look for Fuuka without Makoto due to being told to stay in the dorm to keep an eye on Natsuki.
In the second film, Akihiko and Junpei, alongside Mitsuru, fought against Arcana Hierophant. However, Junpei is so charmed by Arcana Lover that he attacks Akihiko and Mitsuru until Makoto slaps him unconscious. During the Yakushima trip, a panicked Junpei repeatedly shook Akihiko’s arm when Kawaiwagi approached them.
In the final film, when Junpei blames Makato for everything for bringing the end of the world, Akihiko punches Junpei in the face in frustration.
The Weird Masquerade[]
In Act 1, Akihiko met Junpei during the Dark Hour, the night Sakuya/Kotone arrived at Tatsumi Port Island, and their first awakening was their Persona. When Junpei is still freaking out, Akihiko punched him out of commission.
In Act 2, before arriving at Yakushima, Junpei asks Akihiko to do a Titanic pose so he can feel the ocean breeze. Akihiko got distracted while talking to Fuuka and accidentally let go of Junpei, where he fell from the boat.
In Act 3, during the hot spring incident, Junpei, Akihiko, and Ryoji try to escape before the girls catch them. They almost made it out until Junpei realized they had forgotten about Sakuya. They got into a small argument where Akihiko tells him to leave him, but Junpei wants to go back to get him. This results in them getting “executed” by Aigis. The following day, Akihiko and Junpei got angry at Sakuya for being the only guy not caught by the girls.
In Act 4, after Takaya and Jin escape, Akihiko talks some senses to Junpei, who plans to go after them. Akihiko reminds Junpei not to let Chidori’s sacrifice go to waste, and she wants him to live.
Female Route[]
In Act 2, both of them get charmed by Arcana Lovers, where they first try to charm Kotone but fail. They attack Yukari and Mitsuru until Kotone knocks them to their senses. After they regain their senses, Yukari and Mitsuru slap them in the face.
Persona 4 Arena[]
Three years later, Junpei and Akihiko joined a new organization that Mitsuru created called Shadow Operatives.
Fanon[]
JunAki is among a few well-known fans shipping into the Persona 3 fanbase. They only interacted in the main story. For the female route, Akihiko is the only guy Junpei interacted with the most before he met Ryoji.
This ship currently has over 60 works on AO3. It is Junpei's second most popular ship, and Akihiko's sixth most popular. Its biggest rival is Akishinji.
