Salesjun 2

Jun-ho behind the Salesman mannequin

Jun-ho learns about the Salesman when investigating Gi-hun's men. He makes his way to the car renting company building which is the meeting building, in which he finds a mannequin with a drawing of the Salesman's face on it. He looks very confused upon seeing it. He hides behind said mannequin when he hears someone come, and waits behind it for them to leave. As he hears one of Gi-hun's men on the phone, he learns more about his potential involvement in the games. When Gi-hun makes his way back to his hotel room, he encounters the Salesman. They play Russian Roulette, and, when the Salesman loses, he kills himself.

Jun-ho gets to the scene right after the Salesman shoots himself, having heard the gunshot from his car outside. He finds Woo-seok kidnapped in one of the rooms and uncovers his mouth to ask for Gi-hun's room. At first, he mistakenly thinks he killed the Salesman, and is about to arrest him, when Woo-seok intervenes by hitting him unconscious. He lands beside the Salesman's body. Jun-ho is then pictured on the floor unconscious, to the side of the couch where the Salesman was, while Woo-seok talks to Gi-hun. Woo-seok starts crying and telling him what happened.

Some time later, Jun-ho wakes up and inquires Gi-hun about the Salesman, questioning whether he had killed him. The 456 player denies this and explains that the Salesman had simply lost the game. The police officer then realizes that Gi-hun is still involved in the Squid games and begins to interrogate him about it. In response, Gi-hun claims that he was planning to put an end to the games.

Fanon[]

Although neither get much screen time and their only scenes together are where when Jun-ho hides behind the mannequin that emulated the Salesman and when he falls unconscious beside him, the ship is starting to rise in popularity, especially on Twitter. The post that notably started their Renaissance was made by Twitter user @xotalis, and it immediately gained quite the traction, with over 6.5k likes at the time of writing this. It immediately generated some fanart and fanfiction.

User @xotalis is not the first one to come up with the ship, though. It goes back to 2021, to @lovekosiyona and @6ihun. Here's the first post of them. Originally, the ship was named 'Ddakho' - a play on the Recruiter's Ddakji game mixed with Jun-ho's name as a shipname. The ‘Juncruiter’ shipname was coined by, uncoincidentally, Twitter user @juncruiter.

Even though it's considered a rarepair, it does have quite a growing loyal community of dedicated fans and is slowly becoming more mainstream, among which a Juncruiter groupchat made by Twitter user @juncruiter. It is mainly rivaled by SalesHun, the ship between the Salesman and Gi-hun, which has a bigger fanbase due to having more (and actual) screen time, and likely JunHun, the ship between Gi-hun and Jun-ho for similar reasons. On the other hand, fans that take a liking to 457/Inhun like to imagine how hilarious In-ho's reaction would be to finding out his brother is dating his employee.

Some AU established their relationship how Jun-ho and the Salesman met before the main event. In this version, the Salesman was assigned by his boss Frontman to monitor or take care of the boss's brother after In-ho shots Jun-ho on the cliff, then the Salesman gradually developing a love/hate dynamic with Jun-ho. And if Jun-ho were to arrive just in time before the Salesman shots himself and stop him, they might end up having a battle of wits to defend their own perspectives; or maybe the Salesman would to tease, flirt and converse endlessly with Jun-ho for "saving" him, forcing the Salesman to help Jun-ho and Gi-hun’s crew search for the island, whether he wanted to or not.

The appeal for the ship comes from their clashing personalities, as well as totally different world views. They probably can't make each other better, and they, in fact, may make each other worse; but there's still the possibility of them being good for each other rather than bad in some eyes.

The pairing is considered intriguing because both individuals are likely to be perplexed by the other's way of thinking and attempt to influence each other to align with their own perspectives. As a result, they may end up adopting some of each other's opposing beliefs, resembling a 'corruption' arc for Jun-ho and a reverse transformation for the Salesman. Following this dynamic, Jun-ho might emerge from the relationship not devoid of compassion, but potentially more inclined to pursue justice against criminals at any cost. Furthermore, he could become less vulnerable to certain forms of violence and less emotionally impacted by his profession. Conversely, the Salesman, while retaining his essential nature, could experience a subtle softening of his demeanor due to his interactions with Jun-ho. It's plausible that he may begin to see people in a more positive light, evolving into a more morally upright individual. Alternatively, the two could mutually deteriorate each other's character and find satisfaction in the chaos they create, leaving the outcome open to interpretation.

Juncruiter currently has 130 works on AO3, as well as some fanart and (shit)posts over on Twitter. Since the Recruiter doesn't have a canon name, some popular fics on the AO3 Juncruiter tag, as well as numerous Twitter users, use the popularized fanon name for the salesman Moon Ki-yong, coined by @juncruiter, mentioned above.
