Summary[]
Kim and Ron have been best friends since their first day of preschool. This meeting is shown in the three-part special, A Sitch in Time.
Kim and Ron first meet.
Kim and Ron have a very distinctive relationship of opposites that covers both their personalities and their natural aptitudes. Kim's a Type A teen: a perfectionist who sets high standards for herself and is concerned about her image. Ron's a Type B teen: he is laid-back, ambivalent and somewhat random. Equally, Ron does well in all of the areas in which Kim does not, such as cooking and being able to resist peer pressure, and vice versa. Kim and Ron complement each other, and their relationship works well. Ron often provides a balance to Kim's ambitious nature and image-oriented personality. As such, he often encourages her to slow down and keep things in perspective, to be less competitive and not treat everything as a challenge that must be met head on and to be less image-conscious. At the end of the day their relationship even before their romance has been that Kim needs Ron and vice versa.
They share a passionate kiss at the end of Junior Prom, and are officially boyfriend-girlfriend going into their senior year. However there were some incidents even before they started dating which hinted they may have had feelings for each other for quite a while but may have been too proud (in Kim's case) or embarrassed (in Ron's case) to have openly admitted their feelings to themselves or each other. They were still together after graduating from high school. Most of these implied feelings came from Kim's side, when she would get briefly jealous of Ron getting attention from other girls, one of the most prominent examples being his relationship with Yori. In the Season 3 episode Emotion Sickness, the ship was explored via the affects of a device called the 'moodulator' which had Kim aggressively pursuing Ron romantically. With the end of the episode having Kim state that the moodulator may not be the only cause for Kim's feelings, with her stating "there are still fireworks". It seemed like the ship would eventually happen in-canon.

At the end of the original series finale, So the Drama, the two became a couple. Apparently, as implied in the movie, their classmates have been expecting this so they cheered when the pair made their entrance (all except Bonnie). This is suspected by some fans to be a type of maxim communicating the idea that a strong friendship should first precede a strong relationship. As of Season 4, Kim and Ron are dating. It was believed by some fans that the addition of the element of romance would be a positive thing, although some others were opposed to it and feared it might cause the show to jump the shark. (During the episode "Ill Suited" the show makes reference to this when Ron asks Kim if she had ever water skied over a shark, as she had in his dream.) Schooley and McCorkle noted the potential risk, admitting that while Kim and Ron's blossoming love gave them a chance to do something new with the characters, the relationship had to be handled delicately to avoid turning the series stale[1].
Through everything, even if momentarily sidetracked, Ron and Kim ultimately value their loyalty to each other above all else. Their bond was no doubt strengthened through Ron's role as Kim's sidekick. Repeatedly having faced danger and potentially death side-by-side, Ron and Kim saved each other's lives a number of times throughout the show and Kim was quick to defend Ron if anyone was dare to insult him. They came to depend on each other as partners as well as friends, which by the end of season three grew to a more romantic relationship.
In the episode "Clean Slate", Kim acknowledges that she loved Ron. The fact that her impending death spurred him to destroy their adversaries in "Graduation" would illustrate the fact that this love is indeed mutual; the ending of the series finale heavily implies that Kim and Ron's relationship will endure.
Season 1[]
In the very first episode, "Crush", it's stated multiple times that Kim doesn't normally care about getting a date for the annual school dance because she always goes with Ron as friends. But this year, it's different as she finally worked up the courage to try and ask out her crush, Josh Mankey. This leads to Ron having to find a date of his own. Neither of them have much success, but Kim finally gets to ask Josh out for the dance after her doing her usual shtick of saving people.
In "Sink or Swim", after Ron manages to defeat his personal nemesis Gil, he asks Kim if he can lead the next mission. Kim tells him to "wait and see", which Ron interprets as "no chance", Kim corrects him that it's more "ferociously unlikely".
In "Tick Tick Tick", Kim and Ron are first introduced to Shego. When Ron sees her photograph he immediately calls her attractive, even going so far as to meow. Kim is put-off by this, declaring that Shego is "so not [his] type".
The "The New Ron", Kim convinces Ron to get a new haircut, which Ron is initially unhappy about. She foils all of his attempts to hide it and runs through the school proudly proclaiming that he has a new haircut. Ron winds up thanking her as he gets a compliment from an older student.
In "Bueno Nacho", Kim has no money to pay for a stylish new jacket, so she reluctantly applies to work at the titular food joint with Ron. Kim is disappointed as Ron is completely in his element working at Bueno Nacho while Kim struggles with it. When Dr. Drakken is causing trouble again with his latest scheme, Ron refuses to come along, having grown to enjoy his new position as Assistant Manager. After an argument between them, Kim decides to go alone, but finds out that she's swiftly overpowered by Drakken's goons without Ron. After hearing that Kim has been captured, Ron wastes no time tracking Drakken down, only to get captured himself. While captured, Kim and Ron make up and get freed by Rufus, allowing them to turn the tides against Drakken. To apologize for abandoning her, Ron decides to pay for Kim's new jacket.

In "Mind Games", Kim and Ron receive a call for help from someone who looks like Dr. Drakken, but turns out to be a kidnapped military official who is trapped in Drakken's body. Before they head out to save him, Kim frets about the upcoming cheerleader competition and both Kim and Ron consider each other's lives as so much easier than their own. Naturally, when they manage to rescue the man, their own minds end up switched. Kim now has to deal with Ron's bullies, while Ron has to deal with Kim's responsibilities and they realize just how wrong they were about each other's lives. They manage to switch back just in time after foiling Drakken's plans. When they return to school, Ron is surprised that his bullies are somewhat nice to him now, with Kim confessing that she gave them "sensitive training" in his body.
In "Attack of the Killer Bebes", Ron decides to join the cheer squad as the new mascot. While Kim tries her best to defend him from the likes of Bonnie, she admits to Ron that she doesn't think him joining is a good idea. Ron is hurt by this, but the pair manage to resolve their friendship by the end of this episode. Ron stays with the cheer squad until the beginning of season four, when he joins the football team.
In "October 31st", it is revealed that Kim and Ron have a lifelong tradition of going trick-or-treating together. Ron thinks back fondly on "the year of the ballerina and the cowboy"; Ron went as a ballerina, and Kim as a cowboy. Kim seems less than enthused. When Ron suggests they go trick-or-treating that year as a horse, Kim tells him that she would rather go to Monique's Halloween party instead. She ends up lying to Ron and saying that she has family obligations. Ron is hurt, seeing as it will be their first Halloween separated from each other. Kim's lies are eventually exposed, and her parents ground her for her deception of Ron.
Season 2[]
In "Grudge Match", Ron develops a crush on an employee at the movie theater named Zita Flores. He begins spending all of his money on movie tickets just to have a chance to speak to her, and is spending all of his time at the movies. While watching a romance movie, Wade appears on the movie screen to tell Ron that Kim is waiting outside for him and that she "needs" him. The crowd, thinking that this is a romantic gesture, begins to cheer and encourages Ron to run to her side. He joins Kim outside the theater, but panics when he sees Zita. He tells Kim that they can't be seen together coming out of a "date movie". Kim scoffs at this, and seems to laugh off the entire idea of them ever going on a date. Ron grows nervous, trying to explain himself, suggesting that it would be "possible" for them to date.
In "Two to Tutor", Kim is once again put to shame by Ron in the kitchen. As she struggles through her Home Economics class, Ron is so good that Mr. Barkin asks him to teach the class. He becomes Kim's tutor, and encourages her to "become one" with the various appliances. At the end of the episode, Kim tells Ron that she has a "great tutor" and pulls him in close. The two share a smile together.
In "Virtu-Ron", Ron agrees to meet up for a date with Zita at Bueno Nacho. He chides Rufus for stuffing his face with nachos, reminding him that they'll be "entertaining a lady". Kim points out that he never says things like that to Rufus when she's with them, to which Ron replies "What's your point?".
Kim catches Ron as the "Fearless Ferret"
In "The Fearless Ferret", Ron takes on a superhero persona after meeting with Timothy North, the previous Fearless Ferret. He begins a life of night-time crime fighting, but is quickly discovered by Kim. She catches him upside-down and it looks as though they are going to recreate the famous Spider-Man kiss. However, Kim instead reveals that she knows Ron's identity, and removes his mask.
In "A Very Possible Christmas", Ron tries to get Kim the perfect Christmas present after she gifts him a virtual scrapbook for Hannukah. When Wade announces a Christmas Eve mission, Ron decides to undertake it on his own so that Kim can celebrate the holidays with her family. However, he ends up stranded at the North Pole with Dr. Drakken, and Kim and her family go looking for him. They eventually find the pair, and Ron is upset thinking he ruined Kim's Christmas. However, she tells him that she had a great Christmas. Kim, Ron, Shego, Drakken, and Kim's family go inside to celebrate the rest of the holiday. Kim and Ron stand near some mistletoe (actually parsley that Ron found in a dumpster), and Dr. Drakken pushes them together, encouraging them to kiss. Kim kisses Ron on the cheek, and Ron stumbles away with a love-sick look on his face.
In "Hidden Talent", Ron encourages Kim to try out for the school talent show. Kim is nervous, but Ron reminds her that she's Kim Possible -- she can do anything. Unfortunately Kim is tied up with a mission when the talent show starts, and so Ron goes on stage to stall for time. While she returns with enough time to perform her song for the audience, Ron is the one who ends up winning the talent show.
In "Blush", Kim is dreaming about a date with Josh Mankey. Ron complains about dating, calling it "overrated". However, he grows more agitated when he realizes that Kim is trying to date Josh, causing his first "nacho-valance" in seven years. Ron quickly waves the idea of a date off, telling Kim that they go to dinner and the movies together all the time. Kim points out that this is different because it's a real date. However, her plans seem to be foiled when Dr. Drakken sprays her with a pollen that causes her to disappear each time she gets embarrassed. While Shego and Drakken set about ruining Kim's date, Ron goes on a mission alone to find a cure for Kim's affliction.

In an alternate timeline, Kim and Ron’s relationship was put to a significant test at the beginning of their junior year when the Stoppables were forced to move to Norway. The move was a heavy blow, not only because of the physical distance, but also because it meant a separation from the partnership they had spent years building. As the day approached, Kim wanted to make sure Ron had a piece of their teamwork to hold on to, so she gave him a special parting gift: his very own Kimmunicator, which she affectionately called the Ronmunicator. They shared an emotional hug before he left, and Kim, with a lump in her throat, told him, “I can’t save the world without you.” Her words echoed in his mind as the distance between them grew, marking the end of their daily partnership.
Despite the miles that separated them, Kim and Ron tried their best to maintain their bond, attempting to keep their team intact. At first, they relied on the Ronmunicator to stay in touch, with Kim handling the bulk of the missions on her own and Ron doing his best to provide remote support. But as time passed, it became clear that the distance was taking its toll. Ron was often unable to arrive in time to help during critical moments, and without him by her side, Kim was forced to face increasingly dangerous situations alone. The weight of the responsibility was beginning to wear on her. After many failed attempts to coordinate their efforts across the distance, Ron reluctantly came to the painful realization that they could no longer keep trying to make it work. With a heavy heart, he decided it was best for Kim to continue her work alone, as difficult as it was for both of them.
Kim, though devastated, knew that she couldn’t simply give up. She couldn’t stop fighting for what she believed in, and she certainly couldn’t abandon the lessons she had learned with Ron by her side. Her solution? A series of time-traveling adventures that would not only allow her to reconnect with Ron but also to understand the true strength of their partnership.
Her first stop was back to the day they first met in preschool. Kim’s heart raced as she found herself standing in front of a much younger Ron, who was surrounded by bullies. She had to step in, as she did all those years ago, rescuing him from the torment and offering him the protection he would come to rely on in the future. It was a bittersweet moment for Kim, knowing how much they had both grown since that day, but also realizing just how crucial her involvement in his life had been.
Next, she traveled to a time when they were preteens, when Ron had been there for her during her very first mission. She remembered the nervousness she felt as she helped an eccentric billionaire in distress, but what she hadn’t realized at the time was how much Ron’s unwavering support had meant. Even though she was the one taking the lead, Ron had always been there to back her up—sometimes with his trademark humor, but always with a deep, unspoken loyalty that Kim hadn’t fully appreciated until now. The bond they had formed in those early years had laid the foundation for everything they would face together, and seeing it again in the past made Kim realize how much she truly needed him, not just as a sidekick, but as an equal partner.
Her final stop was a shocking leap into the future. There, Kim uncovered a devastating truth: a time-traveling version of Shego, now an older, more cunning version of herself, had engineered Ron’s move to Norway. Her goal was clear: break up the "solid team" that Kim and Ron had become, and in doing so, eliminate the most formidable threat to her plans. Shego had manipulated the timeline, causing Ron’s absence in order to weaken Kim and ultimately undo the unstoppable duo’s impact on the world. Kim’s heart sank as she realized how deep the conspiracy went, and how much of their future had been altered by this intervention. It wasn’t just their relationship at stake—it was the very fabric of their partnership that had been tampered with.
With the truth finally revealed, Kim and Ron joined forces once more, determined to set things right. Together, they fought against the future Shego’s manipulation, erasing the altered timeline and resetting the world to its proper course. In the process, they were forced to confront the lessons they had learned along the way. Kim had discovered just how integral Ron was to her life—not just as a partner in their adventures, but as someone who helped define who she was. And Ron, too, realized that he wasn’t just the sidekick in this equation; he was as much a hero as Kim, and their strength was in their teamwork.
In the end, the timeline was restored, and Kim and Ron found themselves back where they had started: together. But their bond was stronger now, forged through time and trials. The lessons they had learned about themselves and each other weren’t erased—they were embedded deeper than ever, proof that no matter the challenges, they could always count on each other. And that, more than anything, was what made them unstoppable.
Season 3[]
In "Steal Wheels", Kim says that Friday nights are her "official Ron nights" while getting a bit discouraged when she finds out Ron and Felix had already made plans for the night. Her mother also seems to know about "Ron nights", asking why she's still home alone on a Friday night. After Monique points out that Kim is feeling jealous (which Kim initially denies), she decides to try and change herself to fit in better with Ron and Felix.
Their relationship finally takes a turn in "Emotion Sickness". Kim is accidentally stuck with a "moodulator" on her neck; a computer chip which controls her emotions. While she initially goes from happy, to sad, to angry, the remote control soon becomes stuck on the "in love" setting. She starts flirting with Ron by making goo-goo eyes and twirling her finger in his shirt. The flirting soon escalates to their first kiss, which Wade is shocked to witness. Kim then asks Ron to take her to the carnival that evening on a date. Ron begins to freak out, monologuing to Mr. Barkin about what he should do with Kim. In the process he calls Kim "cute", and says that he's worried dating might ruin their friendship. He decides to break up with Kim.
As he arrives at her house that evening for their date, he practices how to break up with her. However, Kim's parents quickly threaten him and say that Kim's happiness is the most important thing. Before Ron can decide what to do next, Kim enters the room wearing a black dress and red heels, causing Ron's eyes to literally pop out of his head. The pair head out on their date, and Ron again tries to broach the topic of breaking up. However as he does so, the moodulator goes off again, causing Kim to cry and run away. Things are finally sorted out when the inventor of the moodulator arrives and explains everything to Ron. Unfortunately Dr. Drakken gets control of the chips and sends Kim into an uncontrollable rage. She throws Ron around a bit, before Shego joins in. Ron calls out to Kim for help, which finally causes the moodulator to lose its control on her.
Kim fights back against Shego, before sending her chasing after Dr. Drakken. Kim and Ron are finally left alone, and Ron asks if Kim's "crush and everything" were simply the result of the moodulator. Kim replies, "Not everything. There's still fireworks". Ron looks at her with excitement, and then Kim points up at the sky as the camera pans up to reveal the carnival's fireworks.
In "Bad Boy", Kim gives hints and encourages Ron to bring her as a date to a family wedding. Ron likes the idea of bringing a date, but begins to panic when it sounds like he's asking Kim. She responds in turn, saying that it would be "awk-weird" to go together as they're just friends. However, at the end of the episode the pair are seen at the wedding together.
In "Overdue", Ron goes to fight Dr. Drakken and Shego alone. When Shego asks where Kim is, Ron quickly responds "She's not my girlfriend!". When Shego points out that she never said that she was, Ron awkwardly laughs and tries to pretend like he never said anything.
In "Gorilla Fist", Kim is shown to be jealous of Ron and Yori. She goes as far as to think Yori might be a threat to Ron, while her friends Wade or Monique pointing out she might just be jealous. At the end of this episode a confused Ron couldn't believe Yori might have liked him romantically, and he wonders why girls just can't be more straightforward about their feelings. The episode ends with Kim exclaiming endearingly to him "well, you've got me" and the two of them walk home side by side.
So The Drama[]
With the Prom looming and thanks to comments from Bonnie, Kim becomes concerned about who to take. When the idea of Ron is initially raised, she balks at taking her best friend.
Enter Eric, a tall, dark, and handsome guy just joining Middleton High. Kim is instantly attracted and starts a relationship with him. Ron takes an instant dislike to the relationship, and his jealousy is what ultimately makes him realize that he has romantic feelings for Kim. But, out of fear of ruining their friendship, decides not to tell her.
As things grew to a head, and despite him looking like a raving lunatic, Kim trusts Ron enough to believe what he is saying, choosing to go with him rather than listen to Eric asking her to ignore him and stay at the dance.
After it turns out that "Eric" is actually one of Drakken's synthodrones designed to keep Kim off-balance and distracted, and Kim, emotionally distressed, humiliated and depressed at how she had been played all along, is close to conceding defeat, Ron gives her a pep talk and reveals that he has feelings for her. After hearing this, Kim realizes that she feels the same way about Ron, and after dealing with the mission, the two head back to their high school prom -- they walk into the gym holding hands, signifying their status as a couple.
After a slow song starts, Kim and Ron are a little nervous, but a (literal) push from Rufus gets them to start dancing, and the two eventually they look into each other's eyes, slowly lean in, and share their first kiss (as an official couple).

This film is a reboot/prequel to the animated series, taking place during Kim's freshman year of high school. As such, she and Ron are not dating in this film. Still, they share a number of moments with each other throughout the film. They have the same dynamic with one another as in the show -- Kim is capable and overachieving, while Ron is clumsy and fun-loving. Kim is often seen looking at Ron with an endearing expression whenever he says something ridiculous or off-the-wall.

Behind the Scenes[]
Bob Schooley and Mark McCorkle (the creators of the series), have stated that they had planned on eventually making Kim and Ron a couple from the beginning instead of having them stay "just friends" for the entire franchise. Also, Schooley and McCorkle have confirmed that Kim and Ron will be together forever.[2]
Fanon[]
K/R is considered the gold standard of best-friends-to-lovers in any cartoon ( So much so that Season 4 partially happened because enough fans were badgering the creators and the network to actually see Kim and Ron dating, being very happy about the fact that the creators actually delivered instead of just breaking them up to keep the status quo) and is one of the most popular ships in the fandom second only to Kigo in popularity. The reason People ship these two is because of the seemingly close relationship and bond between the two (that is as close as that of siblings) and because they complement each other in many ways and have great chemistry. While Kim's a Type A perfectionist that is concerned about her image and Ron's a Type B teen and is laid-back, and unconcerned about his image, Ron often provided a counterbalance to Kim's type A personality and vice-versa. There have also been numerous hints throughout the show that Kim and Ron liked each other, which only fueled this ship even more
With Kim being a magnet for femslash ship, K/R is not the most popular ship in the fandom (Kigo is), but it's a very well-liked ship in its own right.
