KaiRin is the het ship between KAITO and Kagamine Rin from the Vocaloid and Project SEKAI fandoms.
Canon[]
KAITO and Rin are both VOCALOID voicebanks produced by Crypton Future Media. They don't have an official dynamic or relationship as they are VOCALOIDs. Their relationship depends of the song that they sing together. As a result of being created by the same company, they sometimes appear together in official stuff.
Songs[]
There aren't many KAITO and Rin duets, but there are some songs were they have some kind of relationship. In the Story of Evil, Rin (as Riliane) and KAITO (as Kyle) were engaged but Kyle broke his engagement because he fell in love with a green haired girl called Michaela. After that Riliane ordered to kill every single green-haired girl from her kingdom. The song Queen Thumbelina talks about how many boys (including KAITO) falls in love with Rin. There is also a video about that song that explains how KAITO fell in love with Rin. KAITO never had experience with girls before and he refused to date Rin, but once KAITO and Rin has a date, KAITO became obsessed with her.
Alternative Songs[]
There are also some song parodies/alternative versions that contain this duo. There is a version of the song Kokoro were Rin is a scientist who created KAITO. In this version of the song, Rin literally gives her heart to KAITO in order to keep him alive, but KAITO brings Rin back to life at the end. In Onii Yuukai, a parody song of Roushin Yuukai, Rin has fantasies about KAITO and she, Miku and Luka end up kidnapping him.
Project SEKAI[]

Much like all the other VIRTUAL SINGERS in the game, KAITO and Rin have varying appearances, personalities and relationships with each other in each SEKAI.
In the School SEKAI, Rin looks up to KAITO, often coming up to him with Len for his opinions about various things. It seems that they have closest relationship compared to the other SEKAI's, with Rin even calling him "KAITO-nii". KAITO occasionally scolds Rin for being too excitable or fighting with Len. He also compliments her when it comes to making things fun, such as videos. Rin also seems to enjoy teasing him at times, flustering KAITO.
In the Stage SEKAI, Rin respects KAITO a lot, calling his ideas amazing and his preparations neat. KAITO things she is a wonderful idol alongside the others and enjoys helping out their shows, making sure to point out anything faulty, though fixing it as soon as he can. They both feel the same way about MORE MORE JUMP!'s shows, feeling astonished by them.
In the Street SEKAI, KAITO mentors Rin in DJing, alongside Len. She often gets annoyed at his laidback demeanor while he insists he is serious when working with her. Though when he admits to Kohane he takes her more seriously than teaching the others, Rin goes to shake him out of annoyance. They often bicker a lot, but can be a good duo when needed, such as when helping Kohane with her sampling. She gets confused when he talks about music but thinks when he's explaining things, he sounds amazing, but thinks he should try something new.
In the Wonderland SEKAI, Rin looks up to KAITO as a troupe leader, and for being able to juggle all the things he has to do, saying she wants to try it out too. KAITO offers to think of performances she can do as a troupe leader, and tells her she doesn't have to be responsible for everything or act like everything is fine, and works better when she's having fun rather than taking everything seriously.
In the Empty SEKAI, their relationship is rather rocky. Rin thinks he says whatever he wants too much and doesn't let Mafuyu do what she wants in her own SEKAI. KAITO thinks she along with everyone else is soft on her and it won't help Mafuyu reach what she needs. Despite his tough attitude and demeanor, KAITO expresses care for the others in his own way. Like in the area conversation when KAITO leaves her and Miku a pillow without saying a word when they fell asleep while playing, to which Rin expresses shock.
Fanon[]
KaiRin isn't that popular because both already have more popular ships. Even so, KaiRin is a moderately popular ship, especially in the eastern fandom. Like KaiLen and KaiMiku, the ship is seen as controversial since Rin's mascot is 14 and KAITO, despite not having official age, is often viewed/seen as an adult because of his looks and voice. KaiRin shippers either try to acclaim that KAITO is ageless or just don't care about their ages while their voices sound well together. In AO3 KaiRin has a good amount of works for the average Vocaid ship from that page, 31+ works, being the 3rd most written ship for Rin and the 5th most written for KAITO.
