KamuAbu is the slash ship between Kamui and Abuto from the Gintama fandom.

Canon

Kamui and Abuto are both reoccurring antagonists in the Gintama series. Kamui is the captain of the Harume 7th division, while Abuto is the vice-captain. Due to Abuto being the second strongest in the division, he is ordered to stay besides Kamui and help him with tasks and such.

Kamui hesitates

Despite them never showing any affection towards one another, it's clear that, after the journeys they've been through that they both cherish their companionship and know each other very well. For instance, in chapter 599, when Abuto meets Kamui's father, Umibouzu for the first time, he can already tell some similarities between the duo. Such as, having immense determination to kill their enemy once their sights lay on the foe. Another instance is in the Rakuyou Decisive Battle Arc when Kamui's yato mode was awakened. Despite him being losing his sanity, he still hesitated to punch Abuto when memories of their journeys appeared in his head.

Abuto's warning

In their first meeting, Abuto was the one who saved a young Kamui and Kagura from a pack of juveniles, which the former was ready to attack recklessly. He warned Kamui to take care of his younger sister in order to not become a villain. This was a major turning point in Kamui's relationship with his family.

In their second meeting, Kamui uses a surprise attack to attack Abuto. However, he dodges. After a few kicks from Kamui, Abuto realises that this 'kid' he was fighting was no ordinary child, and instead was one with a desire for power. Their fight was then interrupted by the commander of the 7th division then, Housen, who punched KamuAbu away and instead told Kamui to fight him when he's powerful enough.

When Kamui is invited to join the 7th division, Abuto mocks the former for not being able to abduct his sick mother to the spaceship, and tells him to get lost. Kamui rebuts his words by asking him if he's really a pirate if he couldn't even capture a child. Abuto then questions Kamui's true intent to abduct his mother while his father was there, and tells him to leave the spaceship while he still could. He later rethinks about this during their fight in Rakuyou, saying that he couldn't stop Kamui back then as they were the same. They, and the other members of the 7th division, would have nowhere to go even if they turned back, and that they were captivated by Kamui's determination.

Fanon

KamuAbu is a very rarepair in the Gintama fandom. Most people know of its existence but rarely will they ship them. Some shippers find it odd as Kamui is a beloved character and is always seen with Abuto's company. Non-shippers argue that this phenomenon is because of Abuto being an unpopular character in the Gintama fandom. This ship rivals KamuSoyo, OkiKamu and TakaKamu.

Friendship

Non-shippers like to depict scenes of fatherly-bond. Where Abuto takes care of Kamui as if he was his father. It is also common to see fanart depicting Abuto being done with Kamui's shenanigans or being dragged by the yato in different messes.
