Kazukoi is the het ship between Mahiru Koziumi and Kazuichi Soda from the Danganronpa fandom.
Canon[]
Mahiru and Kazuichi are both members of Class 77-B at Hope's Peak Academy. As such, they are often in the same vicinity as one another, even if they aren't directly interacting. They attended school together at Hope's Peak Academy before the Tragedy, with Kazuichi sitting directly in front of Mahiru in their homeroom class. When Kazuichi complains about their teacher, Chisa Yukizome, pulling a set of swords on him, Mahiru disagrees and calls her "cool". Kazuichi tells her to be quiet, while calling her "Shutterbug".
Alongside the rest of their classmates, Mahiru and Kazuichi were brainwashed by Junko Enoshima and turned into the Ultimate Depsair. They were eventually captured by the Future Foundation, and put into the Neo-World program by Makoto Naegi.
In Chapter 1, Kazuichi decides to skip out on the Ultimate Imposter's meeting. Mahiru goes to find him, and ends up dragging Kazuichi to the meeting. In Chapter 2, Kazuichi hangs out at the diner to try and crash Sonia's All-Girl beach party. When he and Hajime spot Hiyoko running away crying from the beach house, they go to investigate. Kazuichi goes inside, and finds Mahiru's dead body. He is the third witness to the corpse, and is the one to set off the Body Discovery announcement.
In Chapter 5, Kazuichi gathers all of the remaining studetns in the restaurant to go over his plan for capturing Nagito. He asks Chiaki to act as bait, explaining that he could never put Sonia in such danger. Fuyuhiko tells Kazuichi that if Mahiru heard him talking like that, she'd have beat him up.
In one of Mahiru's Free Time Events, she is seen complaining to Hajime about Kazuichi, and the fact that she doesn't think he's ever washed his jumpsuit. Mahiru and Kazuichi share a moment in the Super Danganronpa 2: Zetsubōteki Ingaritsu no Naka no Sōda Kazuichi manga. Mahiru finds Kazuichi at the farm, and tells him to take his clothes off. Kazuichi panics, and asks Mahiru if she likes him like that. Mahiru, exasperated, explains that she saw Kazuichi tear his jumpsuit earlier and she wants to sew it up for him. Kazuichi replies that he knows how to sew, as he grew up poor and often had to sew holes in his clothes. Mahiru seems surprised by this, and offers Kazuichi a sewing kit from the supermarket. She gets one final jab in at him about washing his jumpsuit before leaving.
In the non-canonical Danganronpa S: Ultimate Summer Camp, the two share a number of interactions. Mahiru asks Kazuichi to fix her camera, and he is seen later returning it to her. He explains that he also backed up all of the photographs, and she is grateful for this. However, her mood changes when Kazuichi asks her to take "tons of good Sonia pictures". She tries to give Kazuichi advice on talking to Sonia, but he takes things too far. In the end, Mahiru declares that Kazuichi's attitude makes "every boy on the planet look like a perfect gentleman in comparison".
The two share an interaction later at the final bonfire. Mahiru manages to snap a photograph of Kazuichi with Sonia. Kazuichi is elated, and calls her "Goddess Mahiru" as a result. She calls him creepy for this, but shows him a copy of the photo. She explains that she took the picture as a sort of "pick-me-up" for Kazuichi, as she's seen how hard he is working. Kazuichi says that Mahiru is really nice, despite her constant nagging. This leads to Mahiru again nagging Kazuichi to wash his jumpsuit. In another scene in the game, Kazuichi and Hajime find Mahiru and Sonia in their swimsuits. Mahiru notices Kazuichi staring, and asks Sonia if she's okay. She offers to make Kazuichi leave if he says anything "gross". While Kazuichi begs Hajime to help him talk to Sonia, Mahiru and Sonia decide to leave and view the sunset together.
They do not share any interactions in the non-canonical Ultimate Talent Development Plan.
Fanon[]
This ship likely sailed as a result of their interactions in the manga. Many fans of the ship enjoy the idea of Mahiru trying to "fix" Kazuichi, as most of her canon dialogue about him is showing annoyance. The two also have very opposing personalities, bringing in fans of the "Opposites Attract" trope. Kazukoi is one of the most popular het ships for both characters. However it is rivalled by slash ships for Kazuichi, such as Soudam, and femslash ships for Mahiru, such as Soapies.
