KeiiRei is the het ship between Keiichiro Akasaka and Rei Nishina in the Tokyo Mew Mew fandom.

Canon

Keiichiro and Rei were revealed to have dated in the past. Keiichiro was helping Ryō with the mew project while Rei was a lepidopterist, a person who studies butterflies. Keiichiro's work was dedicated to stopping the aliens and chimera animals from polluting the earth while Rei's job was to observe butterflies in the environment, as their reduced presence was also a sign of pollution and an unhealthy environment. Both of them were busy due to their jobs, but Keiichiro especially did not have a lot of time for Rei, which eventually frustrated her. Keiichiro had prepared a cake to surprise Rei for her birthday but did not show up. He returned home to find a voicemail from her stating that she went home and suggested that they break up, leaving him heartbroken.

Keiichiro continued to bake cakes for Rei every year on her birthday. Lettuce and the other mew mews eventually noticed him preparing to make his yearly cake and the date he had marked down for it. Ichigo later met Rei after a butterfly landed on her head and she got caught in her net. The next day, Ichigo and Rei both fell into water while Rei was trying to catch another butterfly. Rei brought Ichigo into her office to help her dry off and noticed that she had the same special date marked down as Keiichiro. Ichigo asked what that day meant to her and she explained it was her birthday. Ichigo then asked if she knew Keiichiro which immediately caused her to have flashbacks of him.

Ichigo was later cleaning at Cafe Mew Mew and found Keiichiro making a cake for Rei. Ryō caught Ichigo spying on him and called her out for it before explaining that he does this yearly for his ex-girlfriend, to which Ichigo replied that she had already met Rei and thought that she seemed lonely. Ichigo then barged into the kitchen and told Keiichiro that he should take the cake to Rei, and the other mew mews came in behind her and agreed with her. Ichigo explained that Rei did love him and only broke up with him so that he could focus on his work without feeling the need to set aside time for her.

Keiichiro boxed up the cake and went to go bring it to Rei while Ryō and the mew mews accompanied him. However, right before they arrived, the aliens Pie and Tart extracted her soul and fused it with a butterfly chimera animal. Keiichiro raced into the cocoon to grab her body despite not having any powers and Pie repeated attempting to attack him. The mew mews were able to defeat the chimera animal and freed Rei's soul, and she woke up in Keiichiro's arms. Keiichiro told Rei that he had made a cake for her but had dropped it due to the aliens' attack while Rei said that it was okay and she now had the courage to part with him in person and on better terms.

Fanon

KeiiRei only has a small amount of popularity in the Tokyo Mew Mew fandom. This is due to the fact that Rei only appears in the original anime and that they had already broken up prior to the series. This was further cemented by the fact that they still agreed to part ways when the mew mews pressured them to reunite. However, some fans believe that they could eventually get back together, especially after the world attains peace, and the English Dub had the characters imply that they may still get back together one day. On AO3, there are only 3 works for the pairing. KeiiRei most commonly rivals the KeiiZaku pairing.
