In "Return of the Roar", when Kion first asked Fuli to be the fastest member of the Lion Guard, she was quite resentful to the fact that lions had to be the fiercest, doubting him as a leader. She even teased Kion for producing a squeak instead of a Roar. However, after receiving her Mark of the Guard and hearing Kion's Roar of the Elders blow away Janja and his clan, she has softened around Kion (mostly) and she trusts his decisions and supports him.

In “Fuli’s New Family”, Kion becomes concerned upon realizing that, unlike the rest of the Guard, Fuli doesn’t have a family to spend time with. He thus proposes that the Guard try to include Fuli in their own family activities. Kion later spots Fuli, and accidentally causes her to lose a gazelle she had been stalking. Apologetic, Kion offers her a chance to join his family on a hunt.

Fuli responds enthusiastically, but comes to regret it when she finds that she also has to hunt alongside Tiifu and Zuri. Moreover, she soon discovers that the “hunt” is actually a practice for Kiara’s first solo hunt, and that they aren’t actually out to take prey. Fuli questions the point of such an exercise, and when Kion responds that it means not being alone, Fuli counters that it also means not being able to eat. She then confronts Kion over how the other Guard members have been intruding on her personal space, and he admits to wanting to help her not be alone. Irritated, Fuli informs him that she enjoys being alone, and finds the idea particularly appealing after all the unwanted attention.

Kion sees how upset Fuli is and is visibly unhappy himself, and tries to apologize as Fuli takes off by herself. He later finds Beshte and Ono, and admits that they made a mistake. When Ono suggests that they all find Fuli and apologize, Kion readily agrees. They end up saving her and Bunga from hyenas and lava, and Fuli expresses her appreciation. Kion asserts that it’s just what the Lion Guard members do for each other.

When Bunga proposes that the group head to the watering hole, Kion agrees, but makes a point of saying that Fuli is welcome to be by herself. Fuli thanks him, but notes that she does enjoy her friends’ company, even if she does like to be alone as well. When Kion expresses surprise, Fuli confirms her words, even noting that the Guard is like a family to her. Moved by this, the other Guard members-with Fuli’s permission-crowd in to give her a group hug. Kion hangs back, but upon noticing this Fuli laughingly tells him to join in as well, which he does with a smile.

Throughout the series Fuli continues to respect and aid Kion as the leader of the Lion Guard and in defending and protecting the Pride Lands. Occasionally, Fuli argues with her leader, such as in "The Search of Utamu" and "The Mbali Fields Migration", but overall shows the utmost respect for him. Kion often says to Fuli "I know what you're thinking", showing that they often think very similarily. Kion trusts Fuli enough to let her lead the Lion Guard, enough to be his second-in-command.

In Season 3, in "Battle for the Pridelands", Fuli says that Kion will not be alone when the Pridelanders go into battle with Scar. In "The Accidental Avalanche", Fuli expresses worry when Kion becomes unable to think straight (because of the venom). Throughout Season 3, Kion instructs Fuli to lead the Lion Guard while his scar is hurting. In "The Race to Tuliza", Fuli expresses concern about Kion's anger. In "Friends to the End", she fears that Kion's anger is getting out of control when he starts being mean to everyone (including herself). However, she still trusts that Kion would never turn evil. Fuli becomes more worried when Kion runs off, feeling ashamed of himself.

In "The Lake of Reflection", Fuli (like everyone else) is deeply concerned when Kion completely loses his confidence as leader of the Lion Guard. Fuli (and the rest of the Lion Guard) remind Kion that he showed them how to be a team when they were infants. In "Triumph of the Roar", Fuli is happy to see that Kion is healed.
