- Friends? But your friendship is an even more valuable gift. I can't in good conscience accept it for free...
So promise me, if you need anything in the future, you'll come to me.
For you, I'll do anything. - —Kinich to Lumine in "The Last Turnfire Night"

Archon Quest: Chapter V[]
Kinich, accompanied by Kachina as his guide, arrives in Natlan to begin exploring its lands, with Paimon tagging along as usual. As they approach, Kinich’s primary companion, K'uhul Ajaw, appears, immediately scolding Kachina for "wasting everyone's time." Before Ajaw can cause more trouble, Kinich steps in, putting Ajaw in "timeout" to keep the peace. Just then, Mualani appears. Depending on the player's choice, either Lumine or Paimon introduces themselves to Kinich and Mualani. Mualani, looking to expand her team, asks Kinich to take over as the leader of Kachina’s former team, allowing her to join Kachina with new teammates after Kachina was left behind by her previous group.
Kinich explains to Lumine and the others that he is a member of the Scions of the Canopy, a Natlan-based tribe of the Yumkasaur people. He shares details about their ongoing war against the Abyss and their sacred practice of Resurrection. Mualani then invites everyone to a celebratory feast in one of Natlan’s well-known dining spots. Afterward, Mualani and Kachina register for a local competition.
When the competition concludes with Kachina as one of the victors, Kinich reappears. However, he arrives a bit late—Mualani has already invited Lumine to visit her tribe, missing Kinich's chance to extend the same offer. For now, he steps back, waiting for another opportunity to bring Lumine to his homeland.
Later, Kinich returns after Lumine’s visit to Mualani's tribe. He learns that Kachina sacrificed herself in a battle against the Abyss. Following her victory, Kachina was honored with the chance to undergo the Ode of Resurrection, led by Mavuika, the Pyro Archon. However, a problem arises: Kachina’s ancient name cannot be found, making her resurrection impossible. Mavuika invites Lumine and his friends to a private meeting to discuss alternate methods of saving Kachina from death by the Abyss. Kinich decides to stay with Mavuika, while Lumine sets off on a mission to rescue Kachina, joined by Mualani, Chasca, and Iansan.
Yupanqui’s Turnfire: Kinich's Story Quest[]
Back at the Scions of the Canopy village, Lumine and Paimon encounter Kinich, who asks them to learn more about the ritual that the tribe leader, Trinidad, plans for them. They find out that Trinidad intends for them to drain all Abyssal energy plaguing Kongamato, even though this would likely kill it.
While investigating, they meet a tribe member, Ponche, who claims his book, Yupanqui's Turnfire, has been stolen. They catch Mattias, who admits to throwing the book away, thinking it held no value. Meanwhile, Sanka finds the book and reads its contents to Ajaw.
In the days that follow, Lumine meets Kinich again with their respective companions, Paimon and Ajaw. However, Ajaw is, as usual, uncontrollable. Frustrated, Kinich opens a portal to the Abyss, intending to throw Ajaw in. Instead, they’re met with a wave of Abyssal creatures. Among them is Enjou, an emissary of the Abyss who seems to recognize Lumine as the Princess of the Abyss. After Enjou retreats, Kinich thanks Lumine for his help and assures him he’ll always be welcome. Ultimately, Kinich decides to let Ajaw remain.
In the final stages of purifying Kongamato, Trinidad intervenes, disagreeing with Kinich’s methods and offering himself as a sacrifice to the creature instead. Forced into battle, Lumine and Kinich face the creature. In the end, feeling defeated, the creature attempts to end its life by running toward a massive flame. Kinich, however, intervenes, saving it using a stone containing his ancient name.
The next day, Lumine returns to the Scions of the Canopy, where a member of the tribe expresses gratitude for both him and Kinich’s support. Finally, Lumine meets Kinich again in the outskirts of the village. Kinich thanks Lumine once more, telling him he will always be there if needed.
Fanon[]
This ship quickly gained popularity, just like most of Lumine's het ships in Genshin Impact. In keeping with the tradition of giving Lumine a het ship from each region of Teyvat, fans began shipping Lumine and Kinich shortly after the release of Genshin’s Version 5.0 Archon Quests. Their shared interactions and friendly dynamic, especially highlighted in Kinich's Story Quest, fueled the ship’s rise. According to fans, Kinich is the final member of Lumine’s "Het Group" from Natlan, joining other popular male characters she’s shipped with, such as Scaramouche, Venti, Xiao, Kazuha, Lyney, and Tartaglia.
"Kinilumi" has become Lumine's most popular ship in Natlan, competing with Lumine’s other well-known ships, like ScaraLumi, VenLumi, XiaoLumi, KazuLumi, LynLumi, and ChiLumi. Kinich’s ship with Mualani, known as "Kinilani," also competes for fans' attention.
