Archon Quest: Chapter V[]
Kinich meets Aether for the first time when he was starting to explore Natlan with Kachina (As his guide) and Paimon as usual. First, K'uhul Ajaw, Kinich's main companion, appears and scolds Kachina for wasting everyone's time. Kinich appears forcing Ajaw into timeout to prevent further botherings towards everyone just before Mualani appears. Depending of the player's choice, Aether introduces himself or Paimon introduces him to Kinich and Mualani. Kinich is given the role to lead Kachina's former team when Mualani asks to join Kachina as the new teammates since Kachina herself was ditched from her former team.
Kinich reveals that he is a member of the Scions of the Canonpy tribe of Natlan. A tribe of the Yumkasaurs. And he explains everything about the war against the Abyss and the Resurrection. Then, Mualani invites everyone to a feast in one of Natlan's locations where food is well served. After that, Mualani and Kachina register themselves for a competition.
After the competition ended with Kachina as one of the winners, Kinich reappears, but late because Mualani already invited Aether to visit her tribe before he did. For the moment, Kinich leaves and waits for another opportunity to bring Aether to his tribe.
Kinich later reappears when Aether has finished visiting Mualanis tribe, learning that Kachina sacrificed herself in their fight against the Abyss and when her team emerged victorious, she earned the privilege of undergoing the Ode of Resurrection led by Mavuika, the Pyro Archon. Unfortunately, something unexpected happens: for some reason, Kachina's ancient name cannot be found and thus her resurrection cannot proceed. Mavuika invites Aether and his friends to her personal meeting to discuss how to otherwise save Kachina from her death by the Abyss.
Kinich decides to stay with Mavuika while Aether heads off to save Kachina, accompanied by Mualani, Chasca, and Iansan.
Yupanqui's Turnfire: Kinich's Story Quest[]
Returning to the Scions of the Canopy village, Aether and Paimon run into Kinich, who asks them to learn more about the ritual that Trinidad intended them to undertake. From what they learn from Trinidad, he intends to have them drain all of the Abyssal energy plaguing Kongamato, though this would likely kill it in the process.
They find a tribe member, Ponche, who says his book, Yupanqui's Turnfire, was stolen. They find and apprehend Mattias, who says that he threw the book away because of its apparently no value. Meanwhile, the book is actually found by Sanka, who reads the book's contents to Ajaw.
In the following days, Aether meets Kinich again, with his respective companions, Paimon and Ajaw. However, as usual, Ajaw is out of control. Tired of enduring Ajaw's words, Kinich decides to open a portal to the Abyss in order to throw Ajaw in there, but they could only face the monsters that came out of that portal. They soon encountered Enjou, an Emissary of the Abyss, who is presumably serving Lumine, the Princess of the Abyss. After Enjou disappeared through the portal, Kinich thanks Aether for his support and tells him that he is always welcome back should he need him. In the end, Kinich decided not to get rid of Ajaw.
Just as they were about to complete the final part of the purification of Komagato, King Yumkasaur, Mr. Trinidad appears. He does not like the method that Kinich will use and decides to offer himself as a sacrifice for this Yumkasaur. Aether and Kinich have no choice but to fight it and defeat it in combat. Feeling defeated, the creature decides to commit suicide by running towards a large torch and trying to burn himself in its flames, but Kinich intervenes to save him using the stone that contains Kinich's ancient name.
The next day, Aether returns to the Scions of Canonpy and a member of this tribe thanks him and Kinich for the support, even if Kinich is not with him. Aether meets Kinich again in the outskirts. Kinich thanks Aether for his support and he says he will always be there if he needs him.
Fanon[]
This ship gained popularity, just like most of Aether's slash ships in Genshin Impact. Following with the tradition of making Aether's slash ships for each region of Teyvat, people began shipping Aether and Kinich shortly after the release of Genshin's Version 5.0 Archon quests due to them having interactions and appearing to be friends, specially in Kinich's Story Quest. According to fans, Kinich is the last member of Aether's Yaoi Group that hails from Natlan, joining Venti, Xiao, Kazuha, Scaramouche, Lyney and Tartaglia.
Kinither is currently Aether's most popular ship in Natlan and is in competition with every other Aether's slash ships, such as Venther, Xiaother, Kazuther, Scaraether, Lyneyther and Chilaether. It's also in a competition with Kinilani on Kinich's side.
