Kinich told us that you were super amazing! No wonder you can sense so many more things than us!
—Paimon saying that Kinich told the Traveler and her that Citlali is super amazing.

Kinlali is the het ship between Kinich and Citlali from the Genshin Impact fandom.

Canon[]

Kinich and Citlali are two striking characters from the Natlan region. In "Ignition Teaser: A Name Forged in Flames," Kinich threw a ball into Citlali’s house, breaking one of her vases inside and making her angry. Despite this mishap, they appear to share a close working relationship. Kinich has mentioned to the Traveler that he used to take on jobs from Citlali, and they have several voice lines that reference each other.

Citlali is a fortune teller from the Masters of the Night-Wind tribe, while Kinich is a Saurian Hunter belonging to the Scions of the Canopy. He has the Ancient Name "Malipo" and is known for being taciturn. Kinich is skilled at calculating the cost of any request—even for morally questionable tasks—due to his pragmatic philosophy.

Version 5.1 Archon Quest[]

Black Stone Under a White Stone[]

In Chapter: V Act: II - A Decision, when a member of the Masters of the Night-Wind creates a fog that enables Capitano, the first of the Eleven Fatui Harbingers, to escape, the Pyro Archon swiftly senses the disturbance. Recognizing the urgency of the situation, the Archon instructs Kinich to consult Citlali for her insight into the identity of the person responsible. Given Citlali’s expertise in matters related to the Night Kingdom, the Archon's decision underscores the importance of her knowledge and the need for a swift resolution to the emerging threat. Kinich understands the gravity of the task and prepares to reach out to Citlali, knowing that her perspective could prove crucial in uncovering the truth behind Capitano's escape.

Beyond the Smoke and Mirrors[]

In Chapter: V Act: III - All Names are Noble, Xilonen decides that they should consult Citlali, an expert on all matters related to the Night Kingdom and Wayob. However, she notes that Citlali is often busy, frequently hiding away in her room, making it difficult to gain an audience with her. Recognizing the importance of this consultation, Xilonen resolves to write a letter in support of the Traveler, explaining their needs and the significance of Citlali’s insights. Understanding that direct communication is essential, Xilonen suggests they need someone reliable to deliver this letter to Citlali.

Kachina immediately proposes that they ask Kinich for this task, knowing that he is a seasoned negotiator whom Citlali is already familiar with. Kinich’s experience and established rapport with Citlali make him the ideal candidate for the job, as he can navigate her busy schedule and ensure the letter reaches her. With their plan set in motion, the group feels hopeful that Kinich will successfully bridge the gap between them and the elusive fortune teller, paving the way for the guidance they seek from Citlali.

Kinich meets up with the group at the nearby Statue of The Seven, where he accepts the letter and expresses his intention to convince Citlali to give them a chance to discuss their concerns. He mentions that this meeting will also serve as an opportunity for him to explain what happened to the Spiritskeeper Stone and to personally apologize to her for any misunderstandings. Xilonen feels a twinge of guilt for placing this responsibility on Kinich, recognizing that he is likely the only person who knows how to navigate Citlali’s complexities. However, Kinich reassures them, saying, "It's alright," indicating his willingness to take on the task.

As they prepare to part ways, Kinich shares some important information about the situation involving Capitano. He reveals that the man who saved Capitano was Ororon, a member of the Masters of the Night-Wind. Kinich explains that when Citlali realized Ororon was missing, he had already been gone for some time. Paimon, puzzled, wonders how Citlali could have been the first to know about Ororon’s absence if she spends most of her time locked away in her room. Kinich admits he is unsure whether Ororon joined the Fatui willingly or unwillingly, but he suspects that Citlali will be determined to clear his name with the rest of the tribe.

With their plans set, the group feels a mixture of hope and apprehension about what lies ahead. Kinich’s resolve to address these issues brings a sense of purpose to their mission. After exchanging some final words of encouragement, the group parts ways, trusting that Kinich will handle the delicate situation with Citlali and hoping for a favorable outcome in their quest for guidance and resolution.

In Chapter: V Act: III - To Whence the Smoke Drifts, Citlali observes her surroundings and remarks that she can smell a mixture of elements in the air, noting the presence of Pyro, Electro, and other elemental traces. This prompts Paimon to excitedly declare that Kinich had told them how amazing Citlali is. However, Citlali remains silent on the compliment, her thoughts betraying her true feelings. Internally, she muses that it’s about time that little brat, Kinich, finally said something nice about her.

Quotes[]

“As you can probably guess, I've taken jobs from her before. I helped her purchase a heavy stack of paper-based reading material from an Inazuma merchant. Not to pry into my clients' private affairs, but... don't the Masters of the Night-Wind use the woven fabric instead of paper?”
— Kinich voiceline about Citlali
“Kinich, go to the Masters of the Night-Wind and look into who could have aided the captain. Speak to Citlali — she should now.”
— Mavuika orders Kinich to ask Citlali who the person might aided the captain.
“Oh, let's ask Kinich to deliver the letter! He understands the whole situation and is already familiar to face her.”
— Kachina saying that Kinich understands the whole situation and is already familiar to face Citlali.
“Sorry to put this on you, Kinich. It's just that you're probably the only person who knows how to deal with her.”
— Xilonen saying that Kinich is the only person who knows how to deal with Citlali.
Paimon“Kinich told us that you were super amazing! No wonder you can sense so many more things than us!”
Citlali“..."
“(Hmph, it's about time that little brat said something nice about me.)”

Fanon[]

Kinlali is a small ship within the Genshin Impact fandom that features the characters Kinich and Citlali. Although the two have not yet interacted in any Archon Quests, fans have observed their potential closeness and are hopeful for more significant interactions in the future. The ship gained popularity even before June, fueled by leaks and the introduction of Mavuitano. Around the same time, the pairing of Kinilani (Kinich x Mualani) also emerged. By mid-July, when Citlali appeared in the Ignition Teaser, fans began to officially ship Kinich and Citlali, further solidifying their connection within the community.

While Kinlali is still relatively unpopular, especially following the recent release of Natlan, there is some uncertainty about whether Mavuitano and Kinilani were the original ships. Kinlali has been somewhat overshadowed by other pairings, such as Pixelshark (Kinich x Mualani), Aelali (Aether x Citlali) and Magicpixel (Lyney x Kinich). Despite its smaller following, Kinlali continues to have its dedicated fans who hope for more interactions between Kinich and Citlali in the future.

Additionally, Kinich's Japanese voice actor shares the same actor as Sasuke from Naruto, and Citlali, being a pink-haired girl, naturally led fans to draw parallels with SasuSaku, a popular het ship from the Naruto fandom. As a result, some fans refer to Kinlali as "SasuSaku in another universe" or "SasuSaku in the Genshin Universe," highlighting the resemblance between the two pairings.

Likewise, Citlali's English voice actress also plays March 7th from Honkai: Star rail, and Kinich resembling Dan Heng's personality and appearance, naturally led fans to draw paralles with DanMarch, a somewhat popular het ship from the Honkai: Star Rail fandom. Thus, many fans in both these fandoms started making connections and posting memes and ship content on these two ships.

Currently, Kinlali has 4 works published on Archive of Our Own (AO3).

  • Most of the people call her "Granny", or "Granny Itzli", but Kinich calls her by her first name.
