Strange New Worlds[]
LOST IN TRANSLATION
As the Enterprise and the Faragaut have been assigned to work together, Jim transfers over to the Enterprise for the mission. Sam meets him, and welcomes him, Jim calling it one hell of a ship. He jokes that he can't believe that they let Sam work there, and Sam says Pike asked for the more handsome brother. They hug and Sam asks if he wants a tour. Jim says he does, as long as it ends at the bar.
They head to the bar and Jim asks what's new in Xenoanthropology. Sam says that everything is new and exciting, but points out that Jim doesn't actually care and they should just skip to his news. Jim says he sensing some hostility and Sam says that there's none. Sam congratulates him on his promotion to first officer, and Jim says that he needs to train his replacement first. Sam says it's quite the achievement and Jim thanks him. Sam says that it makes Jim the youngest first officer ever, and asks if he remembers who held the record before him. Jim gets what this is about now, and Sam finishes that their dad was the one who held it before. Jim says that he has to keep up with Sam, given that Sam was named after their father, even if he doesn't go by his first name. Jim asks what him getting promoted has to do with Sam, and Sam points out that their dad's idea of a successful career looks more like Jim's life than Sam's. Jim asks if he's so upset about it why does he keep wallowing in a science lab, which Sam takes offense at. Jim says that they can make George proud in their own ways, and Sam says they could also just not do that. He then finishes his drink and walks off.

The Kirk Brothers relationship was originally not explored very often in fan works. Mostly due to Sam only appearing once, and that being the episode where he died. It gained more fan attention when Strange New Worlds introduced Sam as a full character. As well as giving the two a full relationship. On AO3, there are currently 55 written works.
