Tokyo Mew Mew (2002)[]

Kish was a part of a group of aliens who wished to reclaim the Planet Earth due to their current home being a wasteland and exact revenge on the humans for pollution the Earth. Ichigo became a mew mew, a magical girl infused with the DNA of an Iriomote cat, to combat the aliens' attacks. Kish watched Ichigo from afar and quickly became attracted to her. However, she had eyes on her schoolmate Masaya Aoyama. Kish eventually flew down to Ichigo and kissed her before she could react. He thanked her for the kiss and taunted her before flying off. This upset Ichigo, as it was her first kiss in the anime, and she began to feel guilty towards her crush Masaya and avoided him for a while.

Kish continued to attack Ichigo and the other mew mews with chimera animals, but still flirted with her and tried to convince her to join him. When Ichigo began to date Masaya, Kish became jealous and often tried to attack the both of them. Kish initially saw Ichigo as an 'interesting toy' to play with, but his obsession with her grew. He later kidnapped Ichigo and confessed to her but Masaya arrived and transformed into the Blue Knight before saving her. The Blue Knight had foiled the aliens' plans numerous times and Kish was unhappy to see that his love rival was also the one who kept thwarting him in battle.

Kish and the other aliens later helped awaken Masaya as the vessel for their leader Deep Blue. However, while Ichigo and Deep Blue were battling, and Deep Blue was about to kill her, Kish intervened. He arrived and stated that although he had been loyal to Deep Blue, he declared that he would not allow him to harm Ichigo. Kish then fought Deep Blue until the latter mortally wounded him. Ichigo cradled Kish who tried to kiss her one last time but succumbed to his wounds just before he could reach her. Ichigo then screamed in despair.

After obtaining the Mew Aqua, Ichigo was able to use to restore all of the damage caused by Deep Blue, and it also revived Kish. Kish and the other aliens then went back to their home world. In the manga, Kish stole one last kiss from Ichigo before he departed. In Tokyo Mew Mew 2020 Re-Turn, Kish and the other aliens returned to Earth and got jobs in Cafe Mew Mew where Ichigo also worked.

Tokyo Mew Mew New[]

As in the previous anime, Ichigo became a mew mew to fight off the aliens threatening the Earth that Kish was part of. He became enamored with Ichigo when watching her from afar and forced a kiss on her while she was at the zoo. However, this time, it was not her first kiss due to an accidental kiss between her and Masaya at a museum. Kish would frequently attack Ichigo and the other mew mews with chimera animals and became jealous of Masaya. He also had a habit of swooping in and kissing Ichigo on the cheek to which she would respond with rejection and violence.

Kish later kidnapped Ichigo and began to strangle her when she rejected him. However, Masaya arrived and transformed into the Blue Knight, a mysterious figure dedicated to protecting Ichigo who kept thwarting the aliens' plans. After being bested by him again, Kish realized that his love rival was the vessel for his leader Deep Blue, and told the other aliens to stop fighting him. After making the Blue Knight feel like he could not protect Ichigo, he transformed into Deep Blue.

Later, when Ichigo and Deep Blue were fighting, Kish arrived to protect Ichigo. He had hoped to spare her when the rest of humanity was eradicated so that they could be together, but when he saw that Deep Blue was not going to allow this to happen, he turned on him. Kish was mortally wounded by Deep Blue and confessed his feelings to Ichigo before he died. Ichigo cried in despair as Kish was killed. When Ichigo and Masaya used the Mew Aqua to undo Deep Blue's damage, Kish was revived, and their home planet was also made inhabitable. Kish returned to his home planet as they no longer needed to invade the Earth. He later took up strawberry farming, and after holding a strawberry in his hand, he commented that it was almost as cute as Ichigo.

Fanon[]

Kishigo is a popular ship in the Tokyo Mew Mew fandom and is the most popular ship involving Kish. It was especially popular in the west due to Masaya and the IchiSaya pairing not being as popular in that region. This is due to a trope known as Americans Hate Tingle. Fans in the west found Masaya to be too "boring" and "perfect" and preferred Kish and the Kishigo pairing due to Kish being "darker" and more attractive in the opinion of many. However, following the Tokyo Mew Mew New reboot, support for the canon pairing IchiSaya increased. On AO3, there are currently 124 works involving the Kishigo pairing, while FanFiction.net has 225 works. Kishigo most commonly rivals the IchiSaya and IchiRyo pairings.
