Klaus“Don't you think for a moment that you've failed me. You stayed my hand. Quelled my rage. You inspired goodness in me, and unlike all of souls I've encountered and forgotten in the long march of time, I will carry you with me.”
Camille“I guess that makes me immortal.”

Klamille is the het ship between Camille O'Connell and Klaus Mikaelson from the The Originals fandom.

Season 1[]

Upon his arrival in New Orleans, Klaus tried everything he could to earn Marcel's trust so he could take back his former home. Whilst sitting in a bar, he noticed him staring at Camille as she sat at another table studying. When she got up to leave, Klaus brought her over to Marcel and he asked her out. Later, he compelled Camille to give Marcel a chance and to report on his whereabouts and who he saw. In Tangled Up In Blue, Camille arrived at Marcel's charity event and there seemed to be some tension between them. Klaus complimented Camille on her looks and she returned his compliment with, “You clean up pretty good yourself”, to which he smiled at and replied, “Well don't be fooled, love. I'm the devil in disguise.” Some time after, Klaus compelled her to not remember Marcel lashing out so she would give him another chance. When they shared a moment that Camille interpreted romantically, feeling embarrassed, she commented, “Wow, I totally misread that.” thinking it wasn't something more, but Klaus answered “No. You read it quite well. But we all have our roles to play.” He then compelled her to remember a good time with Marcel and left.

Throughout Season 1, Klaus often compelled and used Camille against Marcel. Though overtime, he began to truly care about her. He told her about who he really was and about the supernatural world, but compelled her to only remember when he was around. He compelled her again to help him meet Davina (who Marcel had entrusted Cami to look after) at St. Anne's Church. At the church, Camille told Klaus of her brother Sean's mass-murder suicide and how she'd had a hard time coping since then, experiencing nightmares and insomnia. Klaus seemed upset at this and came by to her apartment that night. Camille realized that he came to take her pain away and begged him not to compel her, but he explained that her need to know what happened was consuming her and would only put her in danger. Despite her pleas, Klaus ultimately compelled her.

Camille“What about MY brother? My twin brother? We were bonded our whole lives and I know.. I KNOW he didn't just snap. And I need to know who did this and I need to make this right.. No.. DON'T take this away from me! —”
Klaus“You will do nothing. Your brother was ill. He killed those people and himself... and it was a tragedy. All you can do.. is move on. Know that your brother is at peace. I will find out what happened, and I will make sure that whoever harmed your brother will suffer. And as for you.. You will sleep. And you will dream of a world far better than this one. A world with no evil, no demons, and all people desire.. Only to be good.”

Like he promised, Klaus discovered what happened to Sean and showed up at Rousseau's to tell Cami the truth. He revealed that Sean was hexed by a French quarter witch and Camille, upon finding out that Klaus had killed the witch responsible, slapped him. Klaus didn't retort and instead asked why she had done that, and she yelled that killing the person responsible would not bring her brother back. She vowed that she'd undo his compulsion, and once she did, he'd wish he never laid eyes on her. Klaus then disappeared using his super speed.

In The River in Reverse, Klaus compelled Camille again, only this time not for Marcel but instead to write his memoirs. She complained about the typewriter and became irritated with how he repeated the same thing over and over again: that everyone he knew was out to get him. She told him that he was repeating a destructive cycle and that he was the architect of his own unhappiness. Klaus responded that he didn't ask her for advice, and she laughed, saying that of all the people he could've chosen to report his life story, he chose someone with a master's in psychology. She explained that the truth was that he compelled her because he wanted someone to talk to and understand him, but made her forget everything after because he was afraid to trust. When Klaus found the secret code her and Sean had used as kids, he asked her what it was and Camille sarcastically replied that it was a mystical plot against him. When he almost took it seriously, she calmed him down and said it was "a tattoo design". He told her to draw on her own time and she angrily answered, “This IS my time! YOU steal it from me!” and left. She later found out through the secret code a picture of Klaus and Marcel in the early 1900's. This allowed her, without Klaus' presence and therefore compelled to forget about the supernatural, to discover that he was a vampire.

After some time, Klaus arrived at Camille's apartment to compel her into leaving New Orleans (with the agreement of her uncle Kieran), as it was too dangerous for her. Camille tried to understand him and Klaus opened his mind to her. She saw the memories of his tortured past and the curse put on him by Mikael and Esther, and felt saddened by what she saw, saying that no one should've ever gone through something like that. Klaus was touched by her empathy but ultimately compelled her to forget everything. When Davina came to her for help, she realized Camille was compelled when she didn't remember who she was, and helped her undo Klaus' compulsion. Camille and Klaus saw each other again in The Casket Girls where she warned him not to hurt Davina and Josh again, or else she'd expose him to the world.

In Dance Back From The Grave, Camille was at Rousseau's with Marcel and saw him get attacked by Papa Tunde and called Klaus for help, who told her to distance herself immediately. After Marcel was almost desiccated by Papa Tunde's blade, Klaus instructed her to go find someone off the street for Marcel to feed on. She said that there was not enough time, and let Marcel feed on her, much to Klaus's ire. When Bastianna Natale (one of the witches resurrected alongside Papa Tunde) hexed Kieran, Genevieve told Camille that the only way her uncle could be saved is if she plunged Papa Tunde's Blade into Klaus' heart. Later, Camille told Klaus about Kieran's condition and was sitting in St. Anne's Church with the blade when he showed up. She hid it and told him that Kieran was resting and praying in the attic. She commented on how he was going to go crazy and die just like Sean had and they would still be in a stupid fight because Kieran lied to her about witches, vampires, and Klaus. Klaus told her that he had done many terrible things in his life, but Kieran was a good man who had lied to protect her. He went on to tell her that the witches who hexed Kieran are the enemy because of what they had done, and after a pause, Camille handed him the blade and told him what the witches had wanted her to do. She told him that if she had been more like him, she could've done it, but if there was a war coming, she wanted to be on the winning side. Klaus seemed relieved that in spite of everything he'd done, she still chose to side with him, and he tried to help Kieran after that by compelling him to overcome the hex. When it didn't work, he left to go and kill Bastianna.

When Elijah used Papa Tunde's blade on Klaus to protect Rebekah, he summoned Camille the next day to the compound and cleared up her confusion on why he'd called her by saying that she was, "the least likely person he (Klaus) wouldn't immediately slaughter". After she fed him her blood, she asked how he could hate his own sister and Klaus informed her of how Rebekah and Marcel had betrayed him by summoning Mikael to New Orleans, the very reason why he ran from his home in the first place. When she told him that the pair could be anywhere in the world, he said that they'd need a cloaking spell to stay hidden from him and for that they would have to come back to New Orleans. After talking, she followed him to the living room where he told her how a white oak stake could kill an Original and how Elijah had been unable to stop Mikael's rampage in 1919. After getting a text telling him that Rebekah and Marcel have been sighted, he knocked over a vase and picked up a white oak stake and dashed off. Camille followed him outside and saw him feeding on someone to gain strength. She told him that if he killed his sister, she'd never forgive him. She asked him to not be like Mikael and Klaus was hurt by her words. He took her to the opera house where he revealed what Mikael had done to him, Rebekah and Marcel that night in 1919. He told her that he wouldn't hunt down Rebekah and Marcel for centuries, but would simply and quickly kill them. He then rushed off and left her alone on the street.

In Moon Over Bourbon Street, Camille visited Klaus, but was surprised to see that Genevieve was with him half naked. She was seemingly annoyed by seeing Genieve with Klaus and suggested that Genevieve should leave since she had served her purpose, and Genevieve responded that the O'Connell's must've loved pissing off witches before leaving. Camille told Klaus how surprised she was that he was sleeping with the same witch that had tried to blackmail her into stabbing him with Papa Tunde's Blade. Klaus dismissed her argument and asked her what she was doing there. Camille wanted Klaus' help to save Kieran and asked him to use his connection with Genevieve to find a cure, but Klaus informed her that there was nothing that could be done, the curse had already taken root and the damage was irreparable. Camille refused to accept that and told Klaus that if he had any concept of family, he would do the same. In The Big Uneasy, Klaus tried to get Genevieve to help him cure Kieran, but she denied his help after he killed her minion. He came by to Rousseau's to apologize to Camille for having cost her uncle a chance at life, and also to confront her about her one-night-stand with Marcel. Camille told him that he was only mad because he didn't get to control it, and Klaus left the bar telling her to warn Marcel that if he ever saw him again, he would kill him. In An Unblinking Death, Camille needed Klaus' help and he came upon her request. He explained that the electro-shock therapy she had tried to use wouldn't work and it would only kill Kieran faster. She was crying, and told Klaus that she couldn't just give up, and he tried to comfort him saying, "Don't give up, let go". Camille managed to convince Klaus to give her uncle his blood so he could come back as a vampire, but it turned out the hex still remained despite transitioning. When Kieran tried to kill Camille, Klaus saved her and carried her back home.

In From a Candle to a Grave, Camille initially teamed up with Marcel and Davina to take Klaus down, but during the memorial for the deceased members of the community, she spotted a photo on the wall that said, “In Memoriam, Baby Mikaelson” and devastated, ran all the way to the compound to console him in his moment of need. She blamed herself and said it was all her fault, but Klaus interjected and said that it wasn't. Klaus told Camille that he appreciated her being here, but he could not seek comfort in her and be her friend. She seemed confused by this and Klaus turned to face her, saying, “You had me pegged from the start. A man damaged by his demons. Well, those demons aren't dorment, and they are hellbent on killing me and everything beautiful around me.. and you are beautiful.” He then pleaded for her to leave, and she did so upon his request.

Behind The Scenes[]

“I think there’s a soulmate element with the two of them, and you don’t take that lightly. Sometimes, when you really like a guy, you think that if you ever kiss him, that’ll be it for you. Your life will be over, because you’ll be admitting to everything.”
— Leah Pipes on Klamille.[1]
Leah Pipes“I mean, Cami has very grounded morals and Klaus does not. And that causes tension in the relationship. So Klaus will do something awful, terrible, inexcusable, and Cami will be the person who gets pissed off at him and CAN. And tell him- not pissed off you know, now it's more 'explain to him why what he did was maybe not the best thing to do'. And.. I don't know how much Klaus actually listens- but I think he does respect her- but I don't know if he listens. I think it's maybe like he'll do something completely irrational and awful and right after he goes “Uhh, maybe I shouldn't have done that.” (laughs) because Cami wouldn't have wanted me to. But I don't even know if he does that.”
TVFanatic“I think he does. As a viewer I think Cami is the only one he listens to.”
— Leah Pipes Originals Interview with TVFanatic.[2]
“I think he does listen to her and I think he SHOULD listen to her, I think she has, truly, his best interest at heart and so she wants him to do well and she wants him to be a happy person, a complete person a whole person. Because whether she likes him or not she does have feelings for him so she wants the best for him.. so I guess some people would call that loving someone.”
— Leah Pipes on Camille.[3]
“He's protective of her, over Cami, because of the time they spent together she's sort of.. really.. proved herself to be able to have a good understanding of his complexities.”
— Joseph Morgan.[4]
“She (Camille) understands the darkest side of him and the motives behind it rather than writing him off as an evil man, which would be very easy to do.”
— Joseph Morgan.[5]
“He has that bond with her (Camille) and he- again he's protective of her. I think he's just at his core, he's a guy who will do very bad things for good reasons to protect the people he cares about and loves. She's within that circle.”
— Joseph Morgan.[6]
“People, people want her to be in their life and, uh.. she can't resist... certain vampires. There's like certain qualities to certain characters.. there's this extreme evil but also charming. She doesn't back down from that.”
— Leah Pipes on Camille.[7]
“(...) “I would've found you.” I wanted to jump through a waterfall after that like The Last of The Mohican, "I WILL FIND YOU NO MATTER HOW FAR!", but we didn't have the budget for it so we just settled for Rousseau's.”
— Joseph Morgan on Klaus line to Camille.[8]
Q“Where does Cami (Leah Pipes) fit into this kind of familial environment at the moment?”
Michael Narducci“She sees herself as the person who has to try to step in and be someone who Klaus can vent to and be someone Klaus can get feedback from. Cami knows that she has Klaus’ ear and that is a place that not a lot of people have ever had. She wants to keep him on the path of being a protective force in his child’s life and not going out and causing trouble and murdering more innocent people. Cami tells him: “You can choose to be a better person. It is up to you.” I think that is a very interesting role for her to be in.”
— Michael Narducci on Klaus and Camille (Part 1)[9]
Q“Klaus is such an insightful being. He would know if he were being manipulated or handled. Why does he tolerate that?”
Michael Narducci“I think because there is something about her that he is interested in and attracted to. He sees someone in her who has suffered loss and who has made sacrifices on behalf of family, and he has done something similar on behalf of his own family. He thinks she is intelligent and he knows that she looks at him without judgment. She looks at him with the cold-eye of analysis that a therapist brings and that is what he is looking for. If his brother hates him and his sister Freya judges him and Rebekah has left town, Cami is someone who will say, “I don’t believe in evil. I believe in damaged psyches who are struggling to find a more whole and centered way of looking at the world, and I am going to try my best to help you find that.” So Klaus values that.”
— Michael Narducci on Klaus and Camile (Part 2)[10]
Q“What is all the tension between them like, because there’s all this build-up there and as fans, we can see the emotion between them, but neither of them will admit it. They do in their actions, but they don’t in their words.”
Leah Pipes“Yeah, I don’t think they will to themselves, and I think a part of that has to do with the fact that for Klaus, he sees her as something so unadulterated by his own darkness, and he doesn’t want to ruin that. And she sees in him that he’s probably a pretty complicated guy to be with and that’s an understatement. So their feelings are not really welcomed. I think it’s like they don’t want to feel the things that they feel, really, but they just sort of do and there’s no getting around it. I think that happens a lot to people. You have a connection with someone and you know they’re not going to be all that good for you, but you can’t resist falling for them.”
— Leah Pipes.[11]
Q“It was a really lovely moment when he said he’d already sent someone to kill the guy and she told him not to kill anyone for her and he just responded “whatever you want.” (...)”
Leah Pipes“Yeah, it’s a great moment. One of my favorite scenes with Joe is coming up. They just have this relaxed intimacy to their friendship now and it sort of started after everything with Aurora. Joe and I sort of discovered it in our characters, and it’s coming in this episode and in episode 10 where she actually is seeing the goodness and compassion in him and really praises him for it. They just have this relaxed intimacy in their dialogue now that is really fun to play with.”
— Leah Pipes.[12]
“I think you've been seeing them explore the romantic side of their relationship for three seasons now, they just won't admit it to themselves. There is something there. It's romantic and the things that he said to her at the end of last season were romantic and her coming to him at the end of the first season after she thought he lost his baby and lost everything and wanted to be there for him was romantic. These two people really, really, really care for each other and I think are attracted to each other.”
— Leah Pipes on Klamille.[13]
“Obviously at the beginning of the episode of the season you just saw she IS fighting to keep boundaries but not letting him out of her life you know? I mean if she just said “You know what? No more. I can't see you anymore.” — Obviously she continues to wanting to redeem him and wants to see him be happy.. and then.. you know there's some flirting. I don't know what it is! It's like a complicated sort of romantic thing. But she definitely cares for him. And I think- obviously- she thinks he's a hot guy with a cute accent, she's admitted that before. I think they're in denial of what it is between them.”
— Leah Pipes.[14]
“I think that's the interesting thing about Cami and Klaus is that she has a level of understanding- or offers a level of understanding that he doesn't get anywhere else. And so he feels more able to be kind of vulnerable around her and to express himself without feeling judged. So yeah, I think they are helpful. He likes to push boundaries and to test waters and so on yeah, if she's drawn a line he's gonna see how far past the line he can get (laughs).”
— Joseph Morgan.[15]
“The Originals has been pitched as a darker, more adult show, and Camille personifies that. She’s the only human regular character that’s in the show, but she comes at it very damaged. The characters in “Vampire Diaries,” at the beginning, had experienced tragedy, but they came at it from a very innocent place. She’s coming in much more jaded, with an understanding of darkness. I have one proper scene with her – a few run-ins with her, but one proper scene – and I think that’s some of the best work I’ve done. Even though I don’t say much in the scene, it was a challenge for me. I really like working with Leah. She makes interesting choices with Julie. She’s a beautiful girl, but to me, she doesn’t look like the majority of the fans out there who watch the show, for example. They might have a slightly harder time relating to her, which is what makes her so intriguing. She’s a fantastic character.”
— Joseph Morgan.[16]

Fanon[]

Klamille is one of the most popular ships within The Originals fandom. It's main rival is Klaroline, but some fans enjoy both of the ships equally. It is one of Klaus' most popular ships and Cami's most popular. Fans ship them because of their deep and beautiful connection on the show, and many believe that had Camille lived, her and Klaus would've been happy together. Klamille is often shipped alongside Haylijah and Stelena. Klamille is often mentioned in Hope/Legacies-centric fanfiction where a member of the Mikaelson family tells Hope about Klaus and Camille as an ode to the ship.

On AO3, Klamille is Klaus' third most written ship and Cami's first.

Klamille is often controversial because of Klaroline fans, but there are many who defend the ship and prevent hate from being sent to the actors.
