Klonightmare is the slash ship between Klonoa and Nightmare Klonoa from the Klonoa fandom.
Canon[]
Klonoa and Nightmare Klonoa have only met in Klonoa: Dream Traveler of Noctis Sol, an official webcomic that ran on the website ShiftyLook, where they are shown as enemies. The webcomic was left on a cliffhanger due to ShiftyLook going defunct, so it's unknown if Nightmare Klonoa would've developed into an ally to Klonoa overtime.
Klonoa Dream Traveler of Noctis Sol[]
Klonoa, along with Popka and Huepow, finds themselves in a dull, monochrome dream world after riding on the Dream Stream for some time. During their journey, Klonoa hears crying coming from a fort. The fort was guarded by a handful of Moos, which Klonoa and friends were able to dispatch quite easily. Behind a door, they discover Nightmare Klonoa, who is taunting Lolo trapped in a bubble. He deceives her by saying that nobody cares about her. Klonoa is shocked to see an evil counterpart of himself, especially seeing him torment one of his closest friends, saying to him upfront that he doesn't know who he really is, but he isn't the real Klonoa. Surprised to be confronted by Klonoa, Nightmare Klonoa engages in battle. Klonoa ultimately prevails by blasting Nightmare Klonoa with a Wind Bullet, which inflates and temporarily immobilizes him. Afterwards, Klonoa frees Lolo from her prison. Klonoa asks Lolo what the last thing she remembered before being trapped was, and she finds it hard to recall. She deduces that she was at the Bell of Tranquility, questioning how she ended up in this monochrome dream world. Klonoa then deduces that Lolo's fears are running wild, causing her to begin experiencing a nightmare. Shortly afterward, Lolo begins to wake up, with Klonoa, Popka and Huepow clinging on to her. As Lolo awakens, they are all teleported out of the dream world, leaving Nightmare Klonoa behind. After deflating, Nightmare Klonoa makes a small remark on how the heroes managed to get away. A mysterious voice, implied to be that of Tenebrae Hue, then calls out to Nightmare Klonoa. The voice offers him the chance to meet Klonoa and his friends once more. Nightmare Klonoa appears to accept this proposition, though the details of this proposition aren't shown due to the comic then cutting away to Lolo's awakening in Lunatea. The comic ends on a cliffhanger as Nightmare Klonoa is summoned to Lunatea, alongside a brainwashed Guntz and Chipple, to defeat Klonoa once and for all.
Fanon[]
As far as Klonoa ships go, Klonightmare is a ship that, despite having very few official material to go off of, has nonetheless been steadily increasing in popularity, to the point where it may rival the likes of Klololo, Gunoa and Klosorrow in the future. Given Nightmare Klonoa's role as an antagonist, as well as him being an evil duplicate of the real Klonoa, people who support this ship oftentimes treat it as an instance of enemies becoming lovers, with some even treating it as a crackship of some kind. The people who support this ship may also sometimes use it as an opportunity to explore Nightmare Klonoa further, as given how little is known about him officially, he is among the many Klonoa characters who are ripe for expansion.
Klonoa: Dream Crusaders[]
One particular Klonoa fan project that heavily features Nightmare Klonoa is the fanmade continuation of Klonoa: Dream Traveler of Noctis Sol, Klonoa: Dream Crusaders, which picks off right where the original webcomic left off, showcasing the fight Klonoa had with Nightmare Klonoa, as well as the brainwashed Guntz and Chipple, that fans never got to see officially. Eventually, the entire group gets separated when Claire the Ancient summons a slew of portals in the sky that sucks in everyone, leaving Klonoa stranded in the Empire of Jillius while Nightmare Klonoa ends up in Jugkettle, alongside Huepow. After a fight with Garlen, Nightmare Klonoa confides in Huepow that he didn't like how his whole existence boiled down to being Klonoa's evil counterpart, which prompts Huepow to urge Nightmare Klonoa to ''prove [everyone] wrong'' by joining the good guys, telling him that it could fix his reputation and that, if the heroes are able to beat Tenebrae Hue, he could live for himself and wouldn't want to be in Klonoa's shadow anymore. Nightmare Klonoa decides to give it a shot, and after being given the new name of Spikes, he eventually finds Klonoa in Hyuponia and tells him that he's on his side now. Klonoa is at first puzzled at this, reminding Spikes of how he tormented Lolo when the two first met, to which Spikes apologizes, saying he only kidnapped Lolo to lure Klonoa in and stop him. From there, Spikes becomes a fully-fledged ally to Klonoa, even if there are some tensions flaring between him and some of Klonoa's other allies, especially Leorina.
