Canon[]
Inanimate Insanity[]
During team picking of the season, Lightbulb chooses Knife on her team because of his strength. Knife cheers and says that he won't have to beat her up now. Though, when Lightbulb wants Marshmallow on her team as well, Knife complains about her being weak. Later when Lightbulb gives her team the name of Team Epic, Knife supports the choice.
In the gorge slingshot challenge, Lightbulb cheers when Knife is able to get Marshmallow to the other side. Later after Lightbulb trips and shatters, Knife accidentally steps on her remains as he is going to launch Nickel. This causes him to let go and ends up making Nickel miss the landing.
The two later end up getting eliminated during the season. After an explosion in Idiotic Island as Nickel and Knife wake up, Lightbulb lights herself so that they and the others can see. Lightbulb later leads an escape off the island as they follow her through the plan.
Inanimate Insanity II[]
Before the start of the painting challenge when Microphone swiftly arrives, Knife asks her if she knows where Lightbulb and Test Tube, who aren't present, are. During the elimination vote, Lightbulb and Paintbrush both try and vote Knife out, although Paintbrush ends up being eliminated instead.
After noticing Test Tube's rocket starts malfunctioning, Lightbulb calls for Knife, along with Microphone, Suitcase, and Baseball, to help her reach the rocket so she can charge it. The five end up forming a big ladder as Lightbulb is able to successfully do so. Shortly afterwards when Knife explains to Baseball and Suitcase how Test Tube is their biggest threat to the game, Lightbulb overhears Knife in the distance thinks at first he was referring to her. Knife corrects her as Lightbulb continues walking away. In the elimination, Lightbulb and Test Tube both vote out Knife, although Test Tube ends up getting eliminated. By this point, Lightbulb and Knife, along with Baseball and Suitcase, make up the final four contestants left of the season.
While Lightbulb is looking through a box of items, Knife walks up to her along with Suitcase and Baseball and asks to talk to Lightbulb about the previous vote. Lightbulb thinks that they're approaching her because she's vulnerable, which Knife calls a "random act of kindness". Later as Lightbulb explains what she feels from the word allies, Knife cuts her off as he states that they can now focus on playing the game with their last bit of drama cleared up. Lightbulb mentions MePhone's gems that gave them a memory among other bizarre recent occurences, which Knife urges them to not let them distract them when they're this close to the competition's end. Lightbulb then finds the bowtie that makes people invisible and puts it on Suitcase, making Knife take it off of Suitcase when she starts to panic from being invisible. As MePhone explains collecting sticks as part of the challenge, Knife is unamused when Lightbulb asks if they are allowed to eat them. The four all gather sticks as part of what they learn to be the Truth or Flare challenge. When Taco suddenly volunteers to take the role of asking them the questions, Knife reminds them not to let her distract them which Lightbulb is thankful to hear. During the game when Taco asks the four whether they prefer the show to be either fun or serious, Knife and Lightbulb both agree on wanting the show to remain fun and games. Later when Knife's tendency to kill Marshmallow back in the day is brought up, Knife tries defending himself that Marshmallow would always come back, which Lightbulb does not find it justifying. When Taco asks the other contestants if they trust Knife, he becomes disappointed when all of them do not. Later on in the challenge after Suitcase and Baseball successfully burn their ropes, Knife and Lightbulb are the last ones left to complete the challenge. MePhone points this out, making the two anxious on who will survive. However, MePhone notices that Lightbulb would rather stay with Paintbrush while Knife nervously makes sure his fire burns through his rope. Knife's rope snaps in time, causing Lightbulb to become the next contestant eliminated.
Fanon[]
Knifebulb is a rarepair in the show's fandom overall. The pairing surfaced overtime from the two being long-time contestants of the show's first two seasons, with the idea of a contrasting dynamic between them growing on shippers. The ship garnered more attention after the second season was picked back up because of the two getting a better understanding of each other as part of the remaining four contestants. The ship has gained a following on the show's shipping platforms, such as rarepair shippers on Twitter sharing and appreciating ship art between the two. The prevalence has grown on there since the aforementioned time, although it tends to be overshadowed in popularity by their more notable ships like Lightbrush and Knickle.
On AO3, as of January 30, 2025, the ship has 7 works under its platonic tag and 1 in its romantic tag.
