Kopa x Vitani is the het ship between Kopa and Vitani from The Lion King fandom.
Canon[]
Kopa and Vitani are not known to have ever met in canon. Kopa originated from a series of The Lion King books entitled Six New Adventures. In these works, Simba and Nala's cub from the end of the first The Lion King film is presented as male and identified as Kopa. Vitani, meanwhile, was introduced in The Lion King II: Simba's Pride, in which Simba and Nala's cub is instead indicated to be a female named Kiara.
Where Kopa is the son of Simba and Nala, Vitani is the daughter of Zira, the main antagonist of Simba's Pride. Though initially aligned with her mother in antagonizing the lions loyal to Simba, she eventually sided with her brother Kovu and virtually all the other Outsiders in reconciling with the other lions. This redemption makes the idea that she might form a romantic attachment to a Pride Lands lion quite plausible. And Kopa, if he existed in the same canon, would be one of the few known possible partners for Vitani in this regard.
Fanon[]
Despite Kopa being omitted from Simba's Pride and effectively replaced by Kion in The Lion Guard sequel series, he remains a popular character with a number of fans. As such, the ship between him and Vitani enjoys a somewhat impressive level of popularity. Part of this may lie in the Romeo and Juliet-esque aspect of a relationship between them, mirroring that seen in Kovara. In this case, of course, the gender dynamic is reversed, adding the appeal of a Good Boy, Bad Girl scenario.
Works featuring the pairing often seek to explain Kopa’s absence from Simba's Pride and bring him back into the picture following that film’s conclusion. Vitani’s mother Zira is often depicted as being responsible for Kopa’s disappearance. This sometimes occurs after Kopa and Vitani have become friendly or even romantically involved. Some fan works even depict Kopa dying, bringing a tragic end to his relationship with Vitani.
Kopa’s disappearance or death is often painted as negatively affecting Vitani. This often contributes to her somewhat sadistic character throughout much of Simba's Pride, prior to her eventual reformation. In material where Kopa lives, he and Vitani commonly become mates and even go on to have children together. Their relationship is occasionally affected by those of their respective siblings, or by Vitani’s becoming the leader of the Lion Guard at the conclusion of the animated series.
There are 14 works featuring the pairing romantically on AO3, compared to 2 where their relationship is platonic. It is thus the most popular-and very nearly the only-het ship for either character.
