Kopion is the family ship between Kopa and Kion from the The Lion King fandom.
Canon[]
Kopa is the son and only child of Simba and Nala in a series of books written after The Lion King but prior to the release of The Lion King II: Simba's Pride. Kion is Simba and Nala's second child in a continuity established by the latter film and continued with the animated series The Lion Guard, in which he is the main protagonist. Neither character has appeared in an official work with the other. For that matter, Kopa's last appearance in print predates Kion's debut in animation by just over twenty years.
Despite these separations, a number of similarities exist between the two characters. Both of them strongly resemble their father Simba. Each also sports a tuft of mane atop their head, with Kopa's being brown while Kion's is red. Kopa and Kion each befriend a female hyena in their respective works, with Kopa having a friend named Asante while Kion becomes allies with Jasiri.
However, where Kopa is heir to his father's throne and thus faces the challenges and responsibilities of a prince who is to be a future king, Kion's role in considerably different. As second-born cub of the king of the Pride Lands, his role is to act as leader of the Lion Guard, a force that acts to defend the denizens of the Pride Lands and to maintain the peace of the Circle of Life. Kopa faced a handful of enemies in his series, but each was defeated after a single encounter. Kion, by contrast, had repeated engagements with several enemy factions, many of whom later joined together under the leadership of the ghost of Scar. Kopa was also able to dismiss Scar's memory with contempt, whereas Kion was at times burdened by the knowledge that Scar had preceded him as leader of the Lion Guard.

As they are implied to exist in separate canons, Kion and Kopa's relationship is largely left to the imaginations of those who choose to depict them as existing in the same continuity. Typically, this results in one of two depictions. Those who enjoy meta works in which the Lion King characters are actors often depict the two brothers as clashing with one another. Kion is usually accused of being an inferior copy of Kopa, based on their designs, friendships with hyenas, and other factors. Kion's responses vary from defending himself to smugly noting that, copy or not, he is the brother to appear in an animated project rather than Kopa.
Works in which the two brothers appear in the same canon within The Lion King franchise usually showcase a more favorable relationship between the two. In these, Kopa is generally portrayed as the older brother to both Kion and Kiara, and he is regarded with fondness and even admiration by Kion. Such works often seek to explain Kopa's absence from The Lion King II: Simba's Pride and The Lion Guard. As a result, Kopa-unless a particular author chooses to kill him-is unexpectedly but ultimately happily reunited with his younger brother after the conclusion of the events of Simba's Pride. Depending on the author's preferences, this reunion may also follow either the canon conclusion of The Lion Guard series or follow an alternate storyline of the author's own invention.
There are no works tagged for the relationship on AO3.
