KotoPana is the femslash ship between Kotori Minami and Hanayo Koizumi from the Love Live! fandom.
Canon[]
Kotori and Hanayo are both softspoken people who tend to follow others rather than lead, but can get passionate about the things they love. Both are big fans of the school's alpacas. Kotori holds high regard for Hanayo's job as the caretaker for the alpacas. In the Music S.T.A.R.T!! PV, Kotori and Hanayo are playing together with plushies of the alpacas.
When μ's goes camping, Hanayo is put in Kotori's group to help her design costumes. Hanayo picks a basket of flowers in hopes that it might give some inspiration. Kotori thanks Hanayo and the two take in the fresh atmosphere around them. The two end up falling asleep in the tent along with Honoka. The three later go to the hot springs, and Kotori and Hanayo both cry in unison when Honoka suddenly stands up in the water.
In preparation for the Halloween performance, Hanayo, along with Nico, help Kotori in making the costumes.
School idol festival[]
In Chapter 20, Kotori and Hanayo are going to act out the Tanabata Story to some kindergartners. Kotori is Orihime, and Hanayo is Hikoboshi. With Honoka as their practice audience, the two act out the part where Orihime and Hikoboshi meet each other for the first time. Then they act out the part after they get married. Afterward, they thank Honoka for her comments and continue practicing just the two of them.
In Chapter 21, Kotori, Hanayo, and Honoka play a game where they tell a secret about one of them. Kotori shares that she once saw Hanayo eating a rice ball before first period and before third period. Hanayo is surprised, because she thought she was being stealthy. Kotori says it was luck that she saw it, and that Hanayo looked so cute trying to be secretive about eating the rice balls.
In Chapter 25, the members of µ's are preparing for their Christmas party. Kotori apologizes for making Hanayo come over to her place to help her finish the costumes. Hanayo says she doesn't mind, and that she's here to help as much as she can. Hanayo admits she can't work as quickly as Kotori, but she's Kotori assures her that whenever she has Hanayo as a helper, the work seems to go by faster, making Hanayo blush. Hanayo gets started on doing some pin tucks, and Kotori supports Hanayo through working. Once Hanayo finishes the pin tucks, Kotori compliments her that her lines are very neat, and Hanayo says Kotori's the one who taught her how to do that.
In Chapter 36, Kotori attempts to teach the alpacas tricks so that more people will come to visit them. The others don't believe that the alpacas are capable, to which Kotori says that Hanayo will be able to do it. Kotori asks to be Hanayo's disciple, and Hanayo happily welcomes her help. Kotori thanks Hanayo and promises not to let her down. Kotori spends many days with Hanayo taking care of the alpacas and trying to get them to shake hands with her. Hanayo thanks Kotori for helping her and making work easier. She also says that the time seems to fly by when they're together. Kotori is happy to hear that. She then asks Hanayo to become her permanent helper because listening to Hanayo has inspired her. Hanayo accepts, to Kotori's delight.
School idol festival ALL STARS[]
In Kotori's side story "Sleepless Days", Hanayo yawns and Kotori thinks it's cute. Kotori understands how it's easy to be sleepy with the sun shining in, but Hanayo admits that she's actually had trouble sleeping lately. Kotori finds out that Hanayo's new pillow is the reason, so Kotori takes her out shopping to buy a better pillow. Kotori ends up picking one out for Hanayo, and buying one for herself. They return to Hanayo's place, and Hanayo suggests Kotori sleep over there for the night. Hanayo explains that with Kotori having spent some nights there before, Hanayo has found that she really likes falling asleep while talking to her.
In Kotori's side story "Dance How We Want To!", Kotori and Hanayo are practicing on the rooftop. Hanayo does some dance moves, and even though she thinks she messed it up, Kotori thinks it was so cute and wants to give Hanayo a big hug. Hanayo asks what Kotori thought of the dance moves overall. Kotori thinks they were great, and watching them gave her some another idea. Kotori does her dance, and Hanayo lokes a lot, asking to try copying her. Hanayo goes through the steps, and Kotori compliments her for being able to do so after only seeing them once. Hanayo says it's because Kotori made it so easy to understand watching her, and wants to include the moves in their dance. Kotori suggests the same for Hanayo's moves, and assures her it'll be no problem if they keep practicing.
Fanon[]
KotoPana is generally regarded as a very fluffy, soft and cute ship. This is due to Kotori and Hanayo's similar personalities and their shared Pure attribute. The two are often thought to be a well-fitting and adorable couple, both romantically and platonically. The two are often featured in light and pastel colors. Them being in the same sub-unit also helped fuel the ship. Since sub-units were decided through a poll in real life, their pairing (along with their dynamic with Honoka) was popular enough to win the vote.
KotoPana is not as popular a ship as others, being Hanayo and Kotori's 4th and 6th most popular ship on AO3 respectively. The two have other more popular rival ships, such as KotoUmi and RinPana.
