Kovitani is the family ship between Kovu and Vitani from the The Lion King fandom.

Canon

Kovu and Vitani are siblings and two of the children of Zira in The Lion King II: Simba's Pride. Vitani is apparently the older of the two, as Zira identifies Kovu as the last cub born to the lions that would become the Outsiders after they were exiled from the Pride Lands. The two seem to have gotten along fairly well, with Vitani getting irritated with their older brother Nuka when he let Kovu wander off on his own not once, but repeatedly. When Kovu returned in the company of their mother, Vitani greeted him and offered to play fight. Vitani also seemed to fully support their mother's ambitions for Kovu, unlike Nuka.

Years later, Vitani would accept a mission to assist Kovu in ingratiating himself with Simba as a prelude to the Outsiders invading the Pride Lands and taking them for themselves. While observing Kovu in a private moment with Simba, she urged Kovu-despite the distance-to eliminate Simba and was visibly distressed when he failed to do so. Obviously angered, she reported the incident to their mother, who soon arranged to ambush Simba and Kovu during a later encounter. When Kovu attempted to intervene as the Outsiders were mobbing Simba, Vitani kicked her brother away, knocking him into a rock that rendered him unconscious.

After Nuka was killed as a result of the altercation, Vitani became furious with Kovu for turning against them. When Kovu fled, Vitani briefly started to pursue him but was halted by Zira. Vitani would join the other Outsiders in invading the Pride Lands, but the battle was then halted by the arrival of Kovu and Kiara, Simba's daughter. When Kiara pled for the two groups to reunite, Vitani was moved by her words and moved to stand beside Kovu and call for an end to the fighting.

In The Lion Guard episode "Return to the Pride Lands", Kovu appears alongside Kiara to intervene in a confrontation between two Lion Guards: the one led by Kiara's brother Kion, returning home to the Pride Lands, and the one formed by Vitani after she and the other Outsiders were welcomed back into Simba's pride. Despite Kion's return, Vitani would continue to assert her Lion Guard's right to exist and her own to lead it. Her reasoning for this was based on her relationship to Kovu, as the future king. After a somewhat friendly competition between the two groups, Vitani and her Guard were acknowledged as the new defenders of the Pride Lands.

Kovu and Vitani's relationship is, for the most part, a positive one. Unlike with Kovu and Nuka, no rivalry existed between Kovu and his sister. Their sole conflict of interest occurred after Kovu turned against their mother's psychotic ambitions. It was later resolved when Vitani herself saw the error of Zira's ways and sided-both literally and metaphorically-with her brother.
