- “Kristoph Gavin... ...was a man with much significance for me.”
- — Phoenix on Kristoph, Turnabout Trump.
Krisnix is the slash ship between Kristoph Gavin and Phoenix Wright from the Ace Attorney fandom.
Canon[]
Kristoph and Phoenix are canonically former friends. They share a complicated relationship, starting from Kristoph's efforts to frame Phoenix of forgery and have him disbarred prior to the events of Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney. They become friends after Phoenix's disbarment, though this friendship ended in Turnabout Trump once Phoenix helped his lawyer find Kristoph guilty of the murder that he himself had been framed for.
Pre-Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney
Kristoph and Phoenix meet as a result of the trial of Shadi "Zak Gramarye" Enigmar for the murder of the head of his troupe, famous magician Magnifi Gramarye. Kristoph was Zak's original defence attorney, planning to face against his younger brother Klavier Gavin in court for Klavier's first trial. In preparation, Kristoph commissions a forged diary page that would prove Zak's guilt; however, Zak later fires Kristoph after beating him in a game of poker, instead choosing to be represented by Phoenix (who was able to beat him in another game). Unbeknownst to Phoenix, this leads Kristoph to form a grudge against the man. In an act of revenge, he gets the forged page to Zak's daughter, Trucy Enigmar, who is told to pass it along to Phoenix to use in court, Additionally, Kristoph tips Klavier off as to the existence of the forged evidence, allowing for Klavier to call Phoenix out in court and call the forger that Kristoph had commissioned to comment on the evidence's validity. As a result, Phoenix loses the trial, Zak runs away instead of facing his verdict, and a Bar Association meeting is scheduled in order to determine what should be done about Phoenix's job.
In the Bar Association meeting, Kristoph votes against Phoenix's disbarment, being the only person in the meeting to do so; he uses this fact as a means to befriend Phoenix. While Phoenix suspects Kristoph's role in his disbarment, and continues to investigate into Kristoph's actions, he also continues his friendship with Kristoph; something that lasts until the events of the game. Phoenix finds a new job at the Borscht Bowl Club, where he fronts as a piano player to hide his job as a poker player. With the help of Trucy's—who he adopted after Zak's disappearance—supernatural abilities, he becomes well-known for being undefeated in the seven years he works there. Kristoph often visits him at work over this time period, the two of them frequently eating together at the Borscht Bowl Club; he is also aware of Phoenix's true job as a poker player.
Turnabout Trump
Seven years after Phoenix's disbarment, he reconnects with Zak Gramarye (now going by the alias Shadi Smith) in order to sign a will and obtain the rights to Magnifi Gramarye's magic tricks for Trucy. Afterwards, Zak challenges Phoenix to a game of poker; however, unbeknownst to Phoenix, Zak formed a plan with a professional dealer and scammer, named Olga Orly, to frame Phoenix of cheating. Their plan fails, causing Zak to attack Olga in a rage. Phoenix leaves the scene, but when he returns, he finds Zak dead. Anticipating the need for legal assistance, he calls Kristoph in order to request his help in court.
During this phone call, Kristoph mentions Zak's "bone china pate"—his bald head—which, as Zak had been wearing a hat during the entirety of that night apart from the moment of his death, tips Phoenix off to the fact that Kristoph killed Zak. As a result, Phoenix alters his request: instead of asking for Kristoph to defend him, he requests a new lawyer working in Kristoph's office, Apollo Justice.
Throughout the trial, Kristoph acts as a mentor and assistant to Apollo, directing blame for the crime to Olga rather than Phoenix. Taking Kristoph's hints, Apollo accuses Olga of Zak's murder and earns a day's recess for the trial. However, Phoenix objects to this, encouraging Apollo to think of another possibility and ultimately directing him to realise that another person was present at the crime scene. After Apollo realises that this person must be Kristoph, Phoenix assists him throughout the rest of the trial as his co-counsel facing Kristoph on the witness stand. The trial ends with Apollo presenting a card from Phoenix and Zak's poker game that had a drop of blood on it—one that Kristoph claimed to be forged, lending into the reason for Phoenix's original disbarment. Despite this claim, Phoenix is found not guilty of the crime and Kristoph is arrested for it instead.
Moments[]
- Prior to the events of Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney, Kristoph and Phoenix frequently dined together in the Borscht Bowl Club.
- Once such dinner occurred the night of Zak Gramarye's murder; they were stated to have dined together for two hours.

- Kristoph – “I think you'd better, or we're going to have a problem.”
- — Turnabout Trump.
- Judge – “Mr. Gavin! I-Is something the matter?”
- Kristoph – “Hmm? N-No, nothing. Excuse me, it was just so... sudden. Wright. You aren't seriously accusing me... are you?”
- Phoenix – “Oh, Kristoph? You know even I'd never take a joke this far.”
- —Turnabout Trump.

- Kristoph – “You're thinking, "What self-respecting man would use nail polish?"”
- Phoenix – “Not really. I know appearances are a big thing with you.”
- Kristoph – “You know what I say? One cannot live a beautiful life without beautiful nails. First rate, in all things. Accept nothing less.”
- Phoenix – “That certainly does look like first rate nail polish. I like the sparkly bottle.”
- Kristoph – “It's crystal. If you're so drawn to it, please, have one. It's on me.”
- — Turnabout Succession.
- Phoenix – “For seven years we've been friends... ...and yet, I still don't understand you.”

Fanon[]
Krisnix appeals to a lot of Ace Attorney fans due to the unique nature of the ship. While it has a lot of basis in canon, not a lot of information is given on specific events that happened in the "Seven Year Gap" between Phoenix's disbarment and the beginnings of Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney, leaving a lot of room open for interpretation for fans to imagine what Kristoph and Phoenix's relationship could have been like during this time. A lot of basis for interpretations of Kristoph and Phoenix's relationship is established in game: Kristoph and Phoenix are repeatedly stated to have been friends and each man seemed to genuinely valued the other. (For example, Kristoph genuinely tried to help Phoenix in the trial for Zak's murder, agreeing to his defence and repeatedly casting blame towards Olga; at the end of that trial, Phoenix stated that Kristoph had been a significant part of his life and specifies that he includes their friendship as a part of that). However, their friendship was still formed as a result of the events around Phoenix's disbarment and preserved as a result of both Kristoph's and Phoenix's desires to keep an eye on the other, making their relationship a toxic one at its core.
Within the Ace Attorney fandom, Krisnix is a very popular pairing. It may appear to conflict with more popular pairings for Kristoph and Phoenix—namely NaruMitsu, which is Phoenix's most popular ship and the most popular pairing in the fandom overall. However, Krisnix's relationship being so defined by game events and Phoenix's character changes after his disbarment means that many people who do ship Narumitsu also ship Krisnix. The interpretation of Krisnix as either dating or being friends with benefits throughout the Seven Year Gap, before becoming exes after the events of Turnabout Trump, is very common.
On Ao3, Krisnix has 684 fics in the romantic tag and 94 in the gen tag.
