“Ooh? Lord Seliph, is this the first time you've ever seen a dancer? Hee hee... That's adorable!”
— Laylea first meeting Seliph, in Genealogy of Holy what

Layliph is the het ship between Seliph and Laylea from the Fire Emblem fandom.

Canon[]

Seliph is the leader of the Liberation Army, while Laylea is a beautiful working dancer, a commoner from the desert of Dahna.

They both first encounter each other in a situation in which Laylea was imprisoned by the noble Bramsel after a fight in which she refused to entertain and be his personal dancer. To complicate things more, she had with a discussion with her then close companion who happened to be Seliph's then political enemy, Ares, as Ares blamed Seliph's father, Lord Sigurd, for the death of his own father, Eldigan. Aware that what happened was probably something beyond the scope of both men, Laylea disapproved his desire of Ares's idea of his revenge against Seliph, resulting on a fight between Laylea and Ares in which she found his hatred against the rebel prince foolish, showing that she has a similar mindset to Seliph. But Ares didn't listen her, still setting travel to fight against Seliph's army. After Seliph defeats, but forgives Ares, the two men make peace and march to seize the castle of Dahna, then Seliph and his army defeat Bramsel and release Laylea from her prison, and in this scenario they first meet.

After being freed from her dungeon in the castle, Laylea presents herself personally to Seliph. She gets surprised when the prince gets flustered and she realises that he never met a dancer prior, which she finds cute and teases him about it. She decides to join Seliph's army to fight against the empire. Later, Laylea visits a village in the desert in which she gains a sword from the merchant Anna, allowing her to fight in the frontlines of the war, since she allegedly wanted to protect someone she loved.

As the story unfolds, she follows the army, fighting side by side with Seliph and the Liberation army, and they can become lovers. When the war ends, she marries Seliph and he the new Emperor of Grannvale, pouring his strength into the reconstruction of the country, bringing peace and order to the continent, aiming at the realization of a wealthy world, free of discrimination. And, at his side, there was the presence of his wife Laylea, who always stayed close and smiled at him.

Fanon[]

Layliph has the appeal of commoner x prince dynamic, added to the fact that Laylea is one of the most popular substitute children, due to her being a beautiful dancer with strong personality, making her an unique case is which she is more used than her counterpart, Lene. This happens because Laylea is only available as a playable unit if Silvia is not paired with anyone else, which most players chose to not do, since it's one of the few cases in which the substitute is often preferred than the blooded child, since Laylea has the Charm skill that is considered optimal by many players.

Like most Genealogy pairings, it's quite obscure in the Fire Emblem fandom, due to the game not being released in the West. Even so though, the pairing is one of the few substitute ships that gets some attention: it has a very niche following, being eventually mentioned in discussions in forums, and is arguably one of the most popular pairings for Laylea, rivaled mostly by Arelea. Since the game have multiple canon pairings, by the choice of the player, the fanbase has some eventual frictions. The most common rival ships are on Seliph's side though: Muirliph, Lanaseliph, Larceliph, Pattyliph, Tineliph and the ship involving the character Laylea substitutes for, Leneliph.
