Limine is the het ship between Lief and Jasmine from the Deltora Quest fandom.
Canon[]
Lief is the heir to the royal family of Deltora, having been born the son of King Endon and Queen Sharn shortly after Deltora was invaded and occupied by the Shadow Lord. Jasmine is the daughter of Endon's childhood friend Jarred and his wife Anna, whose family owned the blacksmith shop that was once home to Deltora's first king. In a bid to safeguard the then unborn Lief's life and the future of Deltora, Jasmine's parents gave the king and queen their home and the two couples swapped identities. Jasmine's parents then fled the city of Del, willingly acting as decoys for the Shadow Lord's search for the royal couple while also seeking to preserve their own lives and that of their unborn daughter.
Ultimately, they would take refuge in the Forests of Silence, where Jasmine was born, while Lief grew up in Del believing himself to be a commoner. Tragically, Jasmine was later separated from her parents when they were discovered by the Shadow Lord's Grey Guards and taken prisoner. She would spend several years with no human contact, her only companions being a small furry animal named Filli and a raven named Kree. Lief, meanwhile, was prepared for the quest to restore his birthright and the land's only hope of freedom from the Shadow Lord: the magical Belt of Deltora.
The Forests of Silence[]
Lief and Jasmine first met after Lief had set out on his quest accompanied by Barda, a friend of his parents and a former guard at the palace in Del. The two had entered the Forests of Silence searching for the first magical gem needed to restore the Belt of Deltora, only to run afoul of creatures known as the Wenn. Finding them paralyzed by the creatures, Jasmine mistook them for Grey Guards and divested Lief of a cloak as she had often scavenged trapped guards before. However, when Lief protested that the cloak had been a gift from his mother, Jasmine paused in her departure.
Barda and Lief were able to persuade Jasmine that they were humans, not Grey Guards, on an important mission. She thus returned Lief's cloak and departed briefly, but she returned with an antidote to the poison that had paralyzed the pair. Jasmine then urged and helped the two into a nearby tree in order to escape the monstrous Wennbar, to whom the Wenn had intended them as an offering. The trio managed to escape its reach, but they were soon suffering from the cold to the point that Lief threw his cloak over himself and his two companions to keep them warm.
Lief's act had another bonus, as his cloak proved to have the power to conceal those hidden under it from hostile eyes. As such, he saved Jasmine as well as himself and Barda from the Wennbar's attack. Knowing that the gem they sought was protected by a Guardian, Lief and Barda briefly suspected the Wennbar's cave of being the hiding place. Upon being told this suspicion, Jasmine reacted with amusement, and she informed them that there were many worse places in the forests than the Wennbar's lair.
Sobering suddenly, Jasmine caught Lief's attention but didn't explain herself, instead leading Lief and Barda to her home. While there, Lief was briefly chilled to realize that Jasmine's clothes were made from material scavenged from Grey Guards who had suffered the very fate Jasmine had rescued him and Barda from. However, he soon concluded that Jasmine was a noble individual who had risked her own life in order to rescue himself and Barda. During a meal, he questioned her regarding her history, and he soon learned her heartbreaking story and gathered that she had long hardened herself against crying.
After learning that Jasmine had used the last of her Wenn antidote on him and Barda and could make no more, Lief expressed his gratitude to her. However, Jasmine then revealed that if his and Barda's quest was truly aimed at the most dangerous place in the Forests of Silence, she expected that they would soon perish. Despite this, she agreed to guide them to the spot in Mid Wood, the centermost of the three forests. Jasmine initially refused to aid them any further.
Ultimately, however, Jasmine came to Lief and Barda's aid in a crucial moment during their confrontation with Gorl, guardian of the first gem from the Belt of Deltora. Her actions allowed Lief to save Barda from a mortal wound with nectar from the Lilies of Life. Lief later vouched for her account when Barda proved skeptical. After Jasmine collected the last of the nectar, Lief briefly questioned what she would do with it.
Lief was then able to retrieve the first gem from the Belt of Deltora, and he was compelled to tell Jasmine about it. This gem, the topaz, allowed Jasmine to communicate with the spirit of her mother, who had died in the years since their parting. Urged on by her mother, Jasmine offered to accompany Lief and Barda on the remainder of their journey, though she insisted on Kree and Filli's remaining with her. Lief agreed to her proposal immediately, and the newly expanded group spent some days resting before embarking on the next stage of their journey.
The Lake of Tears[]

As the trio make their way to the Lake of Tears, Jasmine objects to their choice of route due to it passing through the domain of Thaegan, a sorceress in league with the Shadow Lord. Following an encounter with a bird enslaved by Thaegan, Lief realizes that Jasmine's concern is for her blackbird companion Kree. Jasmine thus bids Kree to leave the group and return home, and Lief recognizes her obvious sorrow at the parting. Shortly thereafter, the friends rescue a Ralad, one of the natives of the region, from a force of Grey Guards. They manage to escape the villains only to nearly be killed by a ring of quicksand in the surrounding woodlands.
The friends are rescued by what appear to be a friendly elderly couple, but the topaz helps Lief to see through concealing magic and recognize the pair as monsters. He soon identifies them as Jin and Jod, two of Thaegan's thirteen children, and Lief forcibly brings Jasmine and Barda into contact with the topaz so that they two can see the truth. Lief and his friends manage to make their way outside when the Ralad, a former captive of the monsters, provides a distraction. During the escape, Jasmine becomes injured, but Kree returns and contributes to the deaths of Jin and Jod. After Jasmine uses a drop of the Nectar of Life to treat Kree's injuries, Lief offers to use it on her, but Jasmine instead asks him to use a healing ointment she had brought with her from the forests.
Led by the Ralad, who introduces himself as Manus, the trio proceed to the village of Raladin and discover Manus' people living in hiding. They then proceed to the Lake of Tears, where they begin their search for the next gem from the Belt of Deltora. When blood-sucking worms attack Lief, Jasmine comes to his aid only to be attacked herself. The companions are then forced to flee Soldeen, the monstrous guardian of the lake. Soldeen later offers to trade them the gem for Manus' companionship, something that Lief and Jasmine both refuse to agree to despite Manus' willingness. The friends are subsequently able not only to recover the gem, a ruby, but destroy Thaegan and restore the Lake of Tears and its inhabitants to their former states.
City of the Rats[]
Lief, Jasmine, and Barda make their way out of the Ruby territory despite a harrowing encounter with Thaegan's surviving children. Along the way they spot a sign for a shop, which Lief attempts to explain to Jasmine with little success due to her life spent living in the Forests of Silence. At the shop the three are able to obtain some supplies and strange creatures to ride on their journey, and they are advised to take a certain path. Upon reaching the crossroads, however, they find that the path they were told to avoid leads to their intended destination, the City of the Rats. Jasmine protests taking the route initially but accepts Lief's logic and follows, only for the three to end up in the strange city of Noradz.
After a series of harrowing experiences, the trio manage to escape the city and return to Tom's shop, and they then make their way to the City of the Rats. During this journey, Lief senses that Jasmine is troubled by something that she refuses to explain. She ultimately does so after entering the City of the Rats, expressing her disgust at the idea that they are attempting to restore Deltora's royal family to power after the land's rulers were, as she sees it, so foolish as to fall prey to the Shadow Lord's deceptions. Lief, however, reminds Jasmine that only the restored Belt of Deltora, worn by the rightful heir, can banish the Shadow Lord from their land. As such, he helps her to see that they are working to save their land and all its inhabitants, not the royal family, and Jasmine humbly accepts his logic and apologizes.

The Shifting Sands[]

Lief and Jasmine, together with Barda, set out for the Shifting Sands and the fourth gem in the Belt of Deltora.
Dread Mountain[]
The companions travel towards Dread Mountain in search of the five gem of the Belt of Deltora. While Jasmine is optimistic about their progress and Lief wishes to join in her enthusiasm, he feels troubled by the fear that their good fortune cannot last. Not long afterwards, the three arrive at the enchanted Dreaming Spring and partake of its waters, which cause them all to have dreams in which they see other people and places. Lief learns that his home has been invaded by the Shadow Lord and his parents are gone, and upon seeing his distress Jasmine makes a clumsy attempt to offer him comfort.
Having learned the use of the water, Jasmine attempts to see her long absent father but is unable to do so. She attempts to dismiss her failure, but Lief recognizes her obvious pain. Later, after flying partway to Dread Mountain with the aid of the friendly Kin, Lief questions Jasmine about the speech of the surrounding trees. On Dread Mountain itself, the three friends become engaged in a fight with a monstrous Vraal, and Jasmine is injured while attempting to attack it from the side while Barda and Lief have it distracted. Lief calls out to Jasmine in what the Vraal is able to recognize as fear and grief.
After the Vraal is driven off, Jasmine recovers and Lief has his own injuries seen too as well. Jasmine sees Lief's fatigue from the fighting and blood loss and urges him to sleep, which he does despite briefly attempting to remain conscious. Later, after they arrive at the entrance to the Dread Gnomes' caverns, Lief seizes hold of Jasmine's wrist to save her from falling into a deadly pit. Sometime later, Lief also pulls Jasmine into a sheltered area after she has been hit with a poisoned arrow. Lief is deeply distressed, and Jasmine tries to convince him to carry on with their quest.
However, Lief then remembers that the ruby from the Belt of Deltora is an antidote to snake venom, and places it beneath Jasmine's hand in the hopes that it will cure her. To his great relief, the ruby begins to work, and Jasmine shows signs of recovering, opening her eyes to look at him. She is later able to rise to her feet and smile at him and their other friends, who are then able to confront the monstrous tyrant of Dread Mountain, the toad Gellick. After Lief seals the monster's fate with water from the Dreaming Spring, which turns those of evil will into lifeless trees, Jasmine comes to stand beside him and clasps one of his hands as they watch Gellick transform.
The Maze of the Beast[]
When Lief sees Dain watching Jasmine admiringly, he feels a flash of jealousy. Later, when Jasmine resolves to travel separately from the group to make them less conspicuous, Lief protests and tries to pursue Jasmine when she leaves, but to no avail. Lief would grow to miss her in the coming days, particularly as he recognized how much he and Barda had relied on her skills and heightened senses. Upon arriving at the ruined village of Where Waters Meet, Lief found a message left by Jasmine and excitedly led Barda and Dain in a search for her. However, he eventually realized to his dejection that he had misinterpreted her message and that Jasmine had long since departed from the area.
The two were eventually reunited aboard the boat River Queen, on which all four ended up as passengers. Lief didn't initially recognize Jasmine due to her donning a disguise that included fine clothes and makeup. When the ship was attacked by pirates, however, Jasmine came to Lief's defense, giving him one of her two daggers and urging him to remain behind her due to having been injured. The pair were then attacked by a shapeshifting Ol and forced to leave the ship, believing Barda to be dead and Dain a prisoner of the pirates. Lief ministered to Jasmine, who had suffered the worst from the Ol encounter, and wrapped her in a blanket and huddled with her in order to keep her warm.
Jasmine briefly attempted to rise but found herself too weak to do so, and Lief settled her once again. The pair were overjoyed at Barda's apparent return, and Lief noted that his efforts to treat Jasmine were already yielding results. When Barda began behaving strangely, the two discussed his condition with concern, though Jasmine scoffed at Lief's suggestion that Barda had some foreboding of disaster. Eventually they discovered that Barda had been replaced by an Ol, and the trio were subsequently captured by the pirates and thrown into the Maze of the Beast.
While in the maze, Lief would ask to borrow Jasmine's dagger, their only remaining weapon. He eventually sensed the presence of the gem they sought, but Jasmine urged him to leave it behind so they could flee the Glus, the monstrous denizen of the maze. Lief refused, fearing that he would be unable to find it again, and Barda decided he and Jasmine would act as a distraction. However, Jasmine insisted on tying string to Lief's wrist so that she and Barda would be able to find their way back to him again. They would do so after Lief successfully recovered the gem and then made a breach in the maze wall to allow them to escape.
Crawling through the breach, Lief helped Jasmine up beside him before the two then assisted Barda. They found themselves in a cavern rapidly filling with seawater, and Jasmine began to panic. Lief seized hold of her hand and refused to release it, and eventually they discovered a blowhole leading to the surface. Lief let Jasmine crawl out ahead of him, assisting her as he could before they finally made their escape. Sometime later, after the trio had taken shelter for a night, Jasmine asked if they would be able to remain together for the present. This echoed a resolution Lief himself had made shortly after they first parted, and he readily agreed that they must stay united.
The Valley of the Lost[]
After the companions are trapped in a boat on a storm-flooded and tossed river, Lief and Jasmine either faint or manage to fall asleep side by side. Later, when they are attempting to retrieve the diamond from the Belt of Deltora, Jasmine disregards Lief’s warnings about attempting to take it by force. She later learns that he was right and apologizes for arguing with him.
Return to Del[]

Following Lief's report on a conversation between the Shadow Lord and his servant Fallow, Jasmine lays a hand on Lief's arm as she tries to comfort him with what he's learned about his parents' safety. Later, when the pair and Barda are traveling with Steven the peddler, both find his singing annoying. However, Lief eventually realizes that Steven is subtly communicating news to them, and passes it along to a bewildered Jasmine. The pair and Barda later fall victim to carnivorous Gripper plants, and Lief pulls Jasmine to safety. The two then work together to rescue Barda, and Lief advises Jasmine on how to move safely through the field. He then warns her as he realizes that Steven’s savage brother, Nevets, is soon to appear.
The two would later discover the supposed remains of the royal family of Deltora, and argue over who was to blame for their fate. They continue to care for a badly injured Barda, and Jasmine later communicates silently with Lief to share their tragic news. Both would become fearful for Barda when he seemed to find their account amusing, until he explained that the remains were a trick and produced evidence to confirm it. When he then slipped into unconsciousness and seemed in danger of dying, Jasmine reached for Lief’s hand seeking comfort. Lief took it willingly, and noted how both of them had been affected by their adventures.
Lief would continue to feel jealous of Dain’s apparent regard for Jasmine, but was able to put these feelings aside. Later, when one of the Shadow Lord’s Ak-Baba was supposedly sighted, Lief became fearful for Jasmine. She, however, would be the first to recognize that the flying creature was not an Ak-Baba but a friend. Jasmine and Lief then went together to greet the new arrivals. When Dain was seemingly revealed as heir to the throne, Lief would look to Jasmine for affirmation and receive an encouraging nod from her.
When the presentation of the Belt of Deltora to Dain was interrupted by an attack, Lief’s first response was to call for Jasmine. As the resistance forces traveled to Del, Lief and Jasmine remained together. Upon stopping for the night, he encouraged her to sleep first. She later awoke, and Lief apologized in the belief that it was his fault until she explained that she had heard Steven approaching. Lief would go to meet him, and despite her misgivings Jasmine went with him.
After Dain proved to be an Ol and Doom started to regain memories of his past, Lief came to believe that Jasmine was the heir to the throne. Jasmine rejected this notion, but allowed Lief to put the Belt around her waist. It failed to react, and Lief took it back and puzzled over the matter in private. Jasmine, Barda, and Doom were then taken captive, but Jasmine managed to warn Lief against interfering. Lief would make his own way to the palace to rescue his friends.
In the process, Lief realized that the gems were meant to be placed in the belt in a particular order: spelling out the name Deltora. Now believing that it would recognize Jasmine as the heir, he attempted to reach her. Seeing her menaced, he would don the Belt in order to be sure of reaching her…and was revealed as the heir himself. After victory was won, Jasmine expressed her great relief that such had been the case, and her distaste with the city of Del.
In response, Lief was careful, feeling that he must convince Jasmine to stay even if he could not, for the time being, fully express why he wanted her to. When she demanded that he speak, Lief would say simply that he, even as a king, needed her, as did their land. Jasmine accepted this explanation and agreed to stay, at least for a time. This was enough to content Lief for the present.

Cavern of the Fear[]
In the early part of his reign over Deltora, Lief began to distance himself from Jasmine, going weeks without speaking to her. After Lief was alarmed by a scorpion placed in his room, Jasmine rushed in to investigate. She quickly determined how the creature had been placed, but initially refused to leave Lief’s room now that she had a chance to talk to him. She was appalled, and later infuriated, to learn that Lief would be leaving for Tora soon.
Jasmine was among those who wished Lief to lead an army into the Shadowlands to rescue the thousands of prisoners taken by the Shadow Lord. However, the Belt could not aid them in such an undertaking, and Lief refused to make any such attempt without some magic to aid them against the Shadow Lord. Disgusted by his behavior, Jasmine departed in a huff. Pained by her reaction, Lief expressed the wish to tell her the truth about his recent activities, but Doom-Jasmine’s father-insisted that they keep silent.
Jasmine soon learned a supposed reason for Lief’s journey to Tora: to find himself a wife and produce an heir. Stunned by the suggestion, Jasmine expressed the belief that her friend was too young to marry, but eventually came to believe that the gossip was true. Feeling betrayed that Lief had not seen fit to at least tell her, she then met his mother Sharn. Sharn, who knew more about the matter, was surprised by Jasmine’s knowledge but sworn to secrecy. All she could do was ask Jasmine to understand that Lief was acting out of duty, not knowing that this could bring Jasmine no comfort. This section is in need of major improvement.
