Doof“So, can we hold hands now?”
Linda“Take me home.”
— Heinz and Linda on their awkward date back in the 80's.

Lindoof is the het ship between Linda Flynn-Fletcher and Heinz Doofenshmirtz in the Phineas and Ferb fandom.

Canon[]

Overview[]

Heinz and Linda briefly dated sometime back in the early 80's. As a couple, Heinz was rather annoying to Linda and would do various things to aggravate her, leaving her to consider why she even went out with him in the first place. They went to a drive-in movie theater, where they had a pretty bad time broke up shortly after, when Heinz ruined the whole movie with his inator. Heinz would never see Linda again after this and Linda would quickly forget who he even was. However, their date wasn't completely worthless as Linda would end up unwittingly giving Heinz the inspiration to become the ruler of The Tri-State Area, a goal that Heinz would chase after for a good majority of his life.

Series[]

In "What Do It Do?", Dr. Heinz Doofenshmirtz told Perry his tragic backstory about why he wants to create an Anti-Romance Rocket. A flashback shows an example of one of his very horrible dates that he went on back in the 80's. In it, he goes to a drive-in movie theater, sneaking none other than Linda Flynn past the ticket vendor in the trunk of his car. Linda comes out, hacking and gagging because of the pile of sweaty, dirty laundry she was sitting in and asks Heinz why he didn't just make her get in the trunk a block away instead of picking her up at her house. Heinz told her that she was just living in the past and told her to quit griping, since she got in for free. However, she didn't really get in for free after all because Heinz made her split the cost of his one ticket. Heinz annoyed Linda with his happy robot song. Linda tried to ignore all that was irritating her and just enjoy her date with Heinz. In the car, Linda and Heinz showed to have differing tastes in music, with Linda liking the music of Zanzibar and Heinz regarding the band as being just okay. Linda told Heinz her dreams of becoming a pop star and Heinz just laughed in her face over this, saying that her becoming a pop star was about as likely her him taking over the world. Even though he kind of just dissed her passion, Linda was still supportive and told him that he could potentially take over the world if he at least just starts small by just taking over the Tri-State Area. Even though this was just an offhanded remark to Linda, it gave Heinz an epiphany that he would never forget. When the movie started, Linda told Heinz to put the microphone in the car so they could hear it but Heinz had a better idea; to use an invention he made that would amplify the sound of the movie in "fifth dimensional stereo". However, all this machine did was short out the speakers and the entire drive-in movie theater, launching the screen up into the skies above. Linda was understandably pissed off and Heinz innappropriately asked if he could hold hands with her, to which Linda flatly replied with a demand to be taken home. Heinz forced her into the trunk again so he could drive her all the way home. This is when they broke up and Heinz never saw Linda again. After the flashback ended, Heinz Doofenshmirtz told Perry that because of this embarrassingly regrettable date, he was going to ruin love for everybody with his Anti-Romance Robot.

In "This Is Your Backstory", Doofenshmirtz was shown to still be haunted by the awkward date he went on with Linda and Norm told Doof that unlike him, Linda didn't even remember their date at all, which just added insult to injury.

In "Where's Perry?", Doofenshmirtz saw a robot replica of Linda Flynn-Fletcher and said that he thinks he remembers going out with her, which just got him some puzzled looks from Monogram and Carl, as they didn't know the context behind it.

Fanon[]

Lindoof is a somewhat common ship in the fandom, due to the interesting connection of characters these are. However, it's trumped by the canon rival ships of Lawrinda and Charlenshmirtz as well as non-canon ships like Perryshmirtz. This is mostly because of how toxic they were as a couple and how worthless of a human being Doofenshmirtz was in Linda's life. The ship has 6 works on AO3.

This ship overlaps with the common family ship and fan theory, The Flynn-Doofenshmirtz Family, a debunked fan theory, suggesting that Heinz Doofenshmirtz and Linda Flynn actually did continue to date and even ended up getting married, having two kids; Phineas and Candace, before getting divorced, leading Linda to remarry Lawrence and Doofenshmirtz to remarry Charlene. Although this has been consistently denied by series creators, Dan Povenmire and Jeff "Swampy" Marsh", some fans still choose to believe it, while others write fan fictions about this family dynamic, which includes the obligatory Lindoof shipping.
