Louinoé is the slash ship between Louis de Sade and Noé Archviste from The Case Study of Vanitas fandom.

Canon[]

Louis was Noé's close friend during his time at the de Sade residence. Most of Noé's motives against Charlatan were due to it possessing Louis and therefore being the cause of his beheading.

Louis and Noé first met when the Archduke de Sade left the orphan at his castle to meet his grandchildren; Dominique and Louis. Louis initially acts towards him in a passive-aggressive manner, shaking hands while calling him a "poor thing" because his grandfather had taken a liking to him. As Noé is telling his past to Domi, Louis, who is sitting on a branch above them, laughs at Noé for believing that he was raised by humans who truly loved him. Noé gets angry and throws his stuffed bunny into Louis's face. All of a sudden, remembering the kindness of his caretakers, Noé begins to cry, surprising the de Sade siblings. A protective Domi makes Louis apologize, so the two sit next to a teary Noé, keeping him company and apologizing until he stops crying.

Noé expresses his happiness at being adopted by the Teacher, saying that he wasn't sad about having been kidnapped or set up for adoption. Both Louis and Dominique are confused, until the boy begins laughing, calling Noé "really weird" in an endearing manner. A little confused but nonetheless delighted, Noé begins laughing as well.

Noé explains his Archiviste ability to Dominique and tests it out on her. Afterward, they pounce on Louis as well, playfully forcing the elder boy to give up his memories as well. Once Noé sucks his blood, however, he pauses in shock, because all he sees is Louis, curled up and alone in the darkness. It made him sad.

At another time in the library, Louis and Noé are talking about why Louis always stays at the castle. He says it's because he was determined to be "sick" ever since he was born, so the house of de Sade already considers him dead. Noé is left without words, wanting to help but not knowing how to.

Noé ends up noticing that ever since the night of the blue moon, Louis began acting differently. Louis would randomly start staring into space, grimace beside Dominique, and began avoiding the Teacher.

At one point, Louis was carving something into a wooden bar, and Noé asks inquisitively what he was creating. Louis refuses to tell him but hints that it's a gift for Noé, leading the younger boy to sit and wait patiently for his present. Noé notices that Louis continues carving the mysterious object, somehow never finishing. Worried for his friend, he grabs Louis's arms and stares into his eyes worriedly, asking if there was anything he could do to help. Just as Louis is about to confess something, Domi rushes in a panic, bringing the news of Mina, but before she can finish, Louis finishes it for her; "About Mina being executed tomorrow, you mean?" As Louis explains how all curse-bearers are beheaded by Bourreaus, Noé questions how Louis knew the whole time, but never said anything. He proposes that they save Mina, but Louis reacts with scorn, shouting that vampires under the Blue Moon's curse are unable to be saved. Hearing this, Noé gets angry as well, saying that they would never know unless they tried. Louis grabs Noé by his lapel, shouting that he should just "go on and try!" Perplexed at his friend's sudden change in behavior, Noé stills and Louis reminds him again, that there was nothing he could do. This only serves to enrage Noé further, and he pulls away from the older boy in order to save Mina.

Louis is later seen asking around to figure out where Noé and Domi had gone. After realizing they were headed towards the village, he makes a frustrated noise, at which the first appearance of Charlatan within Louis appears. Charlatan says that it had been inside Louis all this time, just waiting for him to want something very much.

Just as the corrupted Mina is about to attack both Noé and Dominique, a figure, Louis, appears and quickly cuts off her head, saving them. Louis pants heavily, seeing if both Noé and Domi are okay. Yet all of a sudden, Louis begins grabbing at his head and screaming in pain, and Noé, worried, shouts his name. Even as Noé watches, Louis jumps behind him and attacks the two other village vampires, sucking them dry. Noé sees the full extent of what Louis has become, and shouts for Domi to run. Louis goes for Noé next, but Noé is able to grab onto his friend's shoulders, pushing back with his feet and yelling at him to snap out of it. He asks if it was because of what he had said earlier, in the castle, and apologizes for his actions, if only Louis would revert back to normal. Louis finally pauses, still breathing heavily and his head on Noé's shoulder. Weakly, he begs Noé to kill him. He knows that he can't go back to normal and that the Bourreaus would be after his head soon, so because he's going to die anyway, he would rather Noé be the one to kill him. Noé, stunned, puts his hand on Louis's back, saying that he couldn't.

Louis opens his mouth to bite down on Noé as the orphan is still recalling their moments together. Before the elder's fangs can pierce his shoulder, however, his head is viciously cut off. Noé stares in shock as Louis's body collapses, and looks up to see his teacher, the murderer of his best friend.

After Louis's death, Domi walks into Noé's room with a chest that she says was supposed to be given to Noé "at the right time". Noé accepts it, but the heavy chest accidentally falls out of his hands, crashing to the floor and exposing its contents. In it, are tens of carefully-pointed stakes, and Noé finally understands what Louis had been crafting all that time. His hands go to his mouth, wondering in terror what Louis had been thinking as he created them. He begins apologizing to Louis, for being unable to save him and even being unable to kill him the way he wanted to.

Louinoe ch 46 (2)

According to Dominique, Noé developed a high fever after that, and stayed unconscious for two days. Upon awakening, he mistakes Dominique as Louis and suddenly pulls him (her) down into a hug. Drifting in and out of consciousness, he sighs in relief that Louis was still alive, because he had had a dream where Louis died. Repeating his name again, Noé falls back asleep.

Noé starts weeping on the floor, while in the present, Charlatan appears in front of a grief-stricken Noé. He asks if Noé would like to see his beloved friend again so that he wouldn't be lonely anymore, and asks for Noé's true name in exchange. Noé remembers Louis telling him that he couldn't do anything, and prepares to give up his true name.

Upon meeting Naenia in Chloé's castle, Noé's fangs come out and he angrily demands for it to give Louis back to Domi and him. Noé thinks of Louis when trying to make Jean-Jacques see how important it is for Chloé to hear his words of affection from him outright.

In a short, Noé and Dominique are worried over Louis, who hasn't returned home yet since he decided to go into the forest. Worried, Noé suggests that maybe Louis was so smart that he predicted he would get lost, and that he wasn't allowed to follow him either because Louis told him not to. Dominique spots a book in which a boy gets lost in the forest, and soon afterwards, the duo enter the woods to search for him. Louis, who is sleeping on a tree branch, is awakened by Noé and Domi's shouting. He sees Noé's distressed face and smiles, thinking that it was a "good face". Suddenly, he hears Dominique day that perhaps Louis really got lost like the boy in the book, and would never be found again. This causes Noé to suddenly burst out crying, with Dominique following soon behind. Their wails surprise Louis, who begins to sweat. Finally, he climbs down from the tree, calling out their name. The two children jump at him in delight, crying that they had finally found Louis. Louis just blushes with an embarrassed expression and tells them to go back home, as he's hungry.

Fanon[]

Although Louinoé is highly overshadowed by Vanoé, the most popular ship in the fandom, there are still fans who like the childhood friends trope. Due to this, it is mostly seen as a rarepair. It sometimes competes with Noénique seeing as both de Sade siblings are shipped with Noé.

It's clear that both Louis and Noé cared extremely much for each other, even quoted by Charlatan itself. The ship itself has many angst opportunities, seeing as Louis is now deceased, so most fanwork is of a resurrected Louis, Louis and Noé together as younger children, or of Noé trying to cope with his friend's death.
