LoveGear is the slash ship between Ainosuke Shindo and Reki Kyan from the SK8 the Infinity fandom.

Canon[]

Both Reki and Adam play significant roles in the show, being main characters, but whereas Reki is the protagonist, Adam remains as the main antagonist.

In the anime, Reki initially admired Adam's skateboarding skills for a brief period of time, but his perception changed when he witnessed Adam's true nature after a confrontation with Miya (in which he announces Miya that he was no longer use for him). Upon realizing the kind of person Adam was, Reki confronted him and urged him to retract his hurtful words to the other boy. In response, Adam questioned the consequences of not taking back his words, prompting Reki to challenge him to a skating competition, with the prize being a race against Langa.

Despite Reki's efforts to learn new techniques to defeat Adam, he failed in the race when Adam used his 'Love Hug' technique against him, causing Reki to sustain injuries and lose the race. Following Reki's defeat, Langa expressed a strong desire to race against Adam due to what had happened to Reki, but Reki, now fearful of Adam, advised against it. Despite Langa's opposition, Reki was reminded by Cherry that he was on a different level than Adam, ultimately leading Cherry to assist them by providing more information about Adam. Ultimately, Reki accepted Langa's request to race against Adam, with the condition that Langa would not be reckless during the race, solidifying their agreement with a classic pinky-promise.

Reki learned about Adam's reputation as the 'Matador of Love' from Joe in a restaurant. He pondered sadly about his childhood friend (who got Reki into skateboarding in the first place but then experienced major injuries that prohibited him from skating further) when Joe mentioned that every person who beefed against Adam couldn't escape, being severely injured and quitting skateboarding afterwards.

Langa and Adam's beef was later interrupted as the police had intervened in "S," leaving the race unfinished and without a winner. Reki was glad that Langa was fine, but once more, he told him to stay away from Adam with seriousness. Langa hesitates due to his own conflicting feelings on the matter, but accepts nonetheless.

Subsequently, when Reki and Langa had a conflict over the same issue, Langa experienced deep sadness, even to the extent of forgetting about his race against Joe. He even mistook Reki's presence when Adam called for him, only to feel let down when he realized it was only him. After they reconciled, Adam is seen using drones to spy on both Reki and Langa, with a particular focus on Reki. Adam made the decision to replace his injured rival, Shadow, with Reki in order to eliminate him as an obstacle in his path to competing with Langa. Simultaneously, Adam expressed that the competition would be more lively with Reki as an obstacle.

On the day of the rematch, Adam was determined on getting rid of Reki, but his expectations were challenged as Reki displayed a newfound astuteness and bravery. At the end of the race, Reki's wheel malfunctioned and led to him losing as Adam crossed the finish line first. Other skaters at "S" found his courage and daring moves on the track to be praiseworthy, and they shouted his name as both Reki and Adam were sprawled across the floor. Adam, feeling angry and confused, questioned why everyone was cheering for Reki instead of him, the winner of the race. Tadashi recalled a younger, happier Adam when Reki expressed that skating and the rematch with Adam were enjoyable. Tadashi admitted to himself and Adam that he was mistaken in trying to distance Adam from skating, realizing that he needed to rekindle Adam's love for it. As Adam moved towards Reki, Joe intervened, signaling that the conflict was already resolved, despite Adam's lingering desire to fight. In response, Reki calmly reminded Adam of Joe's words about not ending up alone. Adam challenged Reki, questioning if a "nobody" like him had truly stood up against him as Reki had. Tadashi then stepped in, informing Adam that he would forfeit his rivalry with Snow (Langa), acknowledging that only Langa could help Adam regain his love (for skateboarding).

The moment when Langa won the race against Adam in the finale, Reki congratulated him for his victory against the man, expressing his admiration for the victory. During the credits scene, an unexpected and seemingly uninvited guest, Adam, arrives at the place where they were celebrating Langa's victory. Reki saw Adam in shock descending from a helicopter towards Langa, grabbing onto him as Adam fell towards them. The subsequent scene showed Adam falling, the burst of his parachute (monikered with a heart) displacing everyone at the party.

In the OVA, it's still evident that Adam still harbored animosity towards Reki, as he's seen fixating on footage of Langa and Reki laughing together (as they were spied by the drones), focusing mostly on Langa while leaving Reki off-screen. Moreover, he excludes Reki from his comparisons of skaters to dog breeds.

Fanon[]

The ship is not especially popular, mostly due to their opposing personalities and the physical injuries Ainosuke sustained to Reki, as well as the age-gap between them, with Reki being a teenager and Adam an adult in his mid-twenties.

The ship has over 310+ works created on AO3 with over 145+ explicit works, 70+ mature works, 50+ teen works, 30+ gen works, and 10+ unrated works, making it a pretty balanced ship ratings-wise.
