Lucas & Boney is the family ship between Lucas and Boney from the EarthBound fandom.

Canon

At the beginning of Chapter 4, Boney is outside when Lucas exits his house. Boney barks, communicating to Lucas that he can take him for a walk if he'd like, and joins the party. If Lucas ignores Boney and walks toward the town centre, Boney runs after Lucas and comes with him anyway. At Hinawa's grave, the two sit and recall a memory from when Hinawa and Claus were still with them.

Boney accompanies Lucas in the investigation of whether the bassist Lucky of DCMC is really Duster. After travelling along the railway for a long while, they arrive at the Clayman Factory. They both sign up to do some work so they can check out Club Titiboo, but are split up. Boney whimpers after being told there are dog things for him to do. Lucas finds Boney put on a treadmill where he has to run to generate energy, but he woofs that it's nice to exercise once in a while.

They eventually finish work and head out to Club Titboo. Unfortunately, the bouncers won't let them in because they don't allow pets inside. Lucas gives Boney some clothes to disguise him as a person, but they still can't get in because they're suspected of being an underage kid and a dog. Thankfully, Violet appears and makes it so they're let inside. After walking around for a while, Boney says to Lucas that the encore won't start if they keep walking around, and suggests they sit down. After the show, Kumatora leads them to her room through a tunnel. She tells Lucas to take a shower, but if he refuses, she'll ask Boney if he wants one, and Boney can say "Woof?" angering Kumatora, making her yell for the two of them to just take a shower already. Once they finish, they travel through the attic so they can find Duster's room and talk to him.

At the end of Chapter 5, the Thunder Tower is blown up. Lucas and his party grab onto the helicopter ladder and each other to escape, with Boney biting Lucas' pants to stay on. They all fall off when Rope Snake can't hold on any longer. Lucas wakes up in a huge field of sunflowers, and finds Boney. He barks, and when they look ahead, they both see a spirit of Hinawa. They go after her, until Boney runs ahead. When Lucas arrives at the cliff, Boney is nowhere to be seen, but it's presumed that he jumped to try and reach Hinawa as Lucas does. Both then land in a pile of hay that Alec laid out. Lucas is taken to the Old Man's paradise, and Boney waits by his bedside until he wakes up. Both are happy to see each other.

After seeing the first Needle pulled and coming back to Sunset Cemetery, Boney suddenly starts barking furiously, to Lucas' alarm. Boney leads Lucas to Hinawa's grave, where he receives his dad's Courage Badge from Nippolyte.

Fanon

Boney is the family pet, but also a very good friend to Lucas. Boney would have helped Lucas cope with the deaths of Hinawa and disappearance of Claus by preventing him from being completely alone with Flint out most of the day. They may have grown closer as a result of that, being for the most part the ones there for each other. Boney notably sticks by Lucas' side for his whole journey. Even despite the fact that Boney might be getting old post-timeskip, he still is always eager to accompany Lucas and aid in battle.

Trivia

• It is possible to go through Tanetane Island with only Lucas and Boney.
  • Boney will "speak" instead of Kumatora or Duster, saying that all their items have been washed away, they need to find food, and that he wants to eat the mushrooms but they don't look safe.
• In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Boney appears beside Lucas when he uses his Final Smash, PK Starstorm.
• One of Lucas's alternate costumes in Smash has a picture of Boney on the t-shirt.
