Lydsday is the femslash ship between Wednesday Addams from The Addams Family fandom and Lydia Deetz from the Beetlejuice fandom.

Canon[]

Wednesday and Lydia come from two different canons, and thus have never interacted with each other. Wednesday Addams was created in the 1930s, but rose to popularity most prominently in the 1960s with her introduction as a television character. Since then she has appeared in numerous other adaptations, most notably the 1990s film franchise and the 2020s Tim Burton series. Lydia Deetz was created for the 1980s film by Tim Burton. She later appeared in a 90s cartoon series, and returned in the 2020s film sequel.

Both The Addams Family and Beetlejuice have been turned into successful Broadway musicals, which draws the attention of theater fans. Also, both characters having an association with Tim Burton helps contribute to their similarities.

Wednesday and Lydia are both seen as dark and macabre, and generally misunderstood by the world around them. While Lydia feels like an outcast in her family, Wednesday generally fits right at home with her "creepy and kooky" family. However, the Netflix series makes it a point to have Wednesday feel as though her family does not truly understand her. This sense of familial loneliness is shared by the girls, and thus might draw them together were they to ever meet. Wednesday and Lydia can both be seen as "tortured artists". In the 1988 film, Lydia has a passion for photography and carries her camera around often. In the Netflix series, Wednesday is an aspiring author who struggles with criticism of her work.

Fanon[]

Lydsday is an incredibly popular crossover pairing, and one that is fairly well known even outside of shipping circles. Fans have long since drawn parallels between Lydia and Wednesday, and this was only compounded by the casting of Jenna Ortega as both Wednesday Addams and Lydia Deetz's daughter. Recent fans have been inspired by the setting of Wednesday and like to imagine what would happen if Lydia enrolled at Nevermore Academy.

As Beetlejuice does not have many shipping options for Lydia outside of Beetlebabes, fans had to look outside the canon characters for her. Wednesday was an obvious choice as she, too, had limited shipping options prior to the release of Wednesday. While this ship has dropped somewhat in popularity since the launch of the Netflix show and the immense popularity of Wenclair, it still has some very dedicated fans.

Tumblr user pixlezq created a popular college AU for these characters in 2019, which inspired other fan artists.

There are currently over 50 works for this pairing on AO3. It is Wednesday's seventh most popular romantic ship, and Lydia's eighth most popular ship overall.
