Chapter IV: Act I[]
Lyney and Aether first meet in Fontaine, during Fontaine's archon quest. While the traveler and Paimon checks on his twin sister, he apears and introduces himself as Lyney and Paimon explains that Lynette was talking to them, which surprises Lyney as he knows she usually keeps to herself. Paimon then asks about what Lynette was saying, so Lyney explains that it is a prophecy going around in Fontaine. He then formally greets the pair. Learning the reason for their visit, Lyney offers to take them to the opera house. He later helps the traveler to avoid his arrest.
During a trick on Lyney's perfomance Lyney has some difficulty in finishing the trick. While he successfully gets out of his own box, the other one fails to do so, instead resulting in the water tank from earlier breaking, leaving Lyney shocked. Everyone on the opera believed that Lyney was the culprit,Furina then declares Lyney a suspect due to the circumstances involved. Neuvillette then asks Furina if she was going to press charges on Lyney, which surprises her, but with the audience believing otherwise, ends up declaring a duel between her and the Traveler.
During the trial, when Lyney maintains his innocence, Furina points out that around the half-way mark, there was a loud thud and expresses doubt that he could not have heard it, surprising him, while the scales tilt in her favor. She then exposes them as members of from the House of the Hearth, surprising the Traveler and Paimon as this meant that they were Fatui agents. This results in the audience supporting Furina's claims while she notices the Traveler is speechless, believing herself to have won. Neuvillette asks Lyney if what Furina said was true, which he confirms. At the opera's backstage, Lyney expresses surprise that Furina would have dug deep into their past, while the Traveler and Paimon are upset by the deception. The twins apologize for deceiving them, knowing of their records with the Fatui, but Lyney insists that he is innocent in this case. The Traveler agrees to help to see justice served correctly.
With the case over, Lyney and Lynette talk to the Traveler again, thanking them for their help and apologizing for deceiving them.
Felis Fuscus: Lyney's Story Quest[]
In the first act of Lyney's Story Quest Chapter, Charlotte after Lyney's trick at some point asks him in front of the Traveler and Paimon about magicians' tendency to use a flower called "Rainbow Roses" in their flower-related performances as a way to represent "passion" and "romantic encounters."[2]
- “Um, coming back to your trick just now — might I presume that you are well-versed in floral symbolism? For example, magicians often use "Rainbow Roses" in their flower-related performances to represent "passion" and "romantic encounters."”

Near the end of the chapter, during the last quest, Paimon mentions that Lyney performed a private magic trick just for Aether and her, telling Charlotte that he started using Rainbow Roses in his tricks after learning of its symbolism. Lyney gets shy and flustered upon hearing his crush being pointed out by Paimon, and he coughs trying to divert attention. Lynette even assumes Lyney considers Aether more important than her because of the use of the Rainbow Rose, to which Lyney responds in the same flustered and shy way, replying "No! I, I just, uh..."
Paimon - "Oh, we went to the cemetery, and Lyney did a private magic trick, just for us! Actually, glad you mentioned it, 'cause that reminds Paimon. Guess what? Lyney's started using Rainbow Roses in his tricks!"
Lyney - "*cough*"
Lynette - "...What? I don't recall ever having received a Rainbow Rose from you myself. Is this supposed to mean that they're more important to you than your own sister?"
Lyney - " No! I, I just, uh..."
Lyney's Birthday Mail[]
On February 2nd 2024, Lyney gives Aether 5 Lumidouce Bell along with his special dish, Cubic Tricks. He says he wants to plan a birthday surprise party for Lynette. He invites Aether and says that he wants to do a special magic trick for his entrance.
- “Let's prepare a birthday surprise for Lynette! It may sound easy, but it's surprisingly difficult! We celebrate our birthdays together every year, so it's incredibly tricky to hide a ploy like a "surprise party" from her. All we can do is misdirect and make alternate preparations. For example, this year, I'd like to invite a "surprise guest"- That's right, it's you! She's managed to figure out all the "surprises ahead of time the last few years... though she did try hard to feign ignorance. But if I can get you to come this year, that'll be the best "surprise" yet. What do you think? Do you have time? I've already come up with an amazing magic trick for your big entrance, all we need to do is rehearse it a bit!”
White Day[]
On March 14, the official Genshin Impact Twitter account posted an art of Lyney [1] to celebrate White Day. It shows him holding a Rainbow Rose in one hand, as a box of chocolates fall out on the side. With the caption having him call the reader, "sweetie."
