Although Alice has forgotten them when she started to believe that "Wonderland" was nothing but a recurring dream, the three tea party friends haven't forgotten her. With Alice being foretold as the hero who will save them from the Red Queen's raise, Hatter has March Hare and Dormouse wait for her return with him. Hoping that they could have another tea party before bringing her to White Queen. Mallymkun the Dormouse, however, couldn't wait and joins the group that were waiting for White Rabbit to bring Alice back. Having no memory of those she met as a child and has changed much since then, has Dormouse believing that Rabbit had found the wrong Alice. She tells March and Hatter this when the Cheshire Cat brings Alice to them, but Hatter knew by looking at her that she is in fact their Alice. Even if March and Dormouse weren't convinced.

American McGee's Alice

When Alice dreams about Wonderland as she sleeps, she attends one of the Hatter's tea parties with their friends, the March Hare, Dormouse and even the White Rabbit in attendance. Everything was peaceful and full of joy, as March gets Dormy to wake up for it, until a fire suddenly started in Wonderland, because of the fire that was currently happening in Alice's house. Hatter gets Alice to wake up as he and their friends were running away from the flames on their end. Although Alice survived the fire, her family weren't so luckily and her grief broke her mind. Destroying Wonderland as it becomes a twisted nightmare version of itself. This led to the Hatter to form a deep hatred towards Alice and turned on his friends as he descends deeper into madness. March and Dormy ended up becoming prisoners of the Hatter's mad funhouse, where he starts to turn his friends into automatons. Alice becomes aware of this when she returned to Wonderland and found the room March and Dormy were kept in, after she too was captured by Hatter and brought to his asylum.

It is unclear why Hatter came to hate Alice the way he did, but the concept art for the cancelled Alice: Asylum game does reveal that after an explosion in his laboratory, the March Hare and the Dormouse were hurt and he blames Alice for it. Having Hatter turn himself into a mechanical with a higher body, since he has already become an half-organic, half-metallic rendition of his former self. A fate that also awaits March and Dormy. Alice doesn't think that March and Dormy fully understand the situation they were in, from feeling upset that the Hatter hasn't given them any tea since he began to experiment on them, but the sight of the two does show Alice how cruel their former friend had become. Leading to Alice killing Hatter in self defence, but is able to revive Hatter after the Queen of Hearts's defeat rebooted Wonderland.

March and Dormy, however, weren't turned back to their normal state, they had become half-metallic like the Hatter. Who longs to have another tea party again with them, but the madness he had suffered from passed onto his friends. Due to Alice being tricked into creating a train to destroy Wonderland in hopes of forgetting the pain of her past, March and Dormy turn on Hatter in order to take control of his domain to build the Infernal Train. Alice wasn't aware of her role in March and Dormy's uprising when she finds the Hatter in parts and ends up facing March and Dormy, as she fetches Hatter's arms and legs from them. After Alice patched Hatter together and the Two go in deeper of the factory as part of their deal to cover the meaning of the Internal Train, March and Dormy had completed and released it before Alice could stop it. Although Hatter says that March and Dormy deserve to die for what they have done, before Alice is left to face the two when they attacked her together, Hatter is sad to see his friends dead. Realising what his past actions had led to this, he refused to keep his promise to Alice while he tries to have a tea party with his fallen friends' corpses. This gets Alice to say that the Hatter deserves to die, after seeing him get crushed by a large tea pot during his tea party.

Alice runs into the Hatter again on the train, where he scolds Alice for causing Wonderland's destruction by wanting to forget her past. As he talks to Alice, Hatter thinks about March and Dormy as he remembers the good times they had, before it all went wrong. Knowing that he is responsible for their traitor actions, just as Alice is responsible for the creation of the Wonderland destroying train they build.

The book illustration of Alice joining the Mad Hatter's tea party in well known among fans of the original story that started the first version of the Alice in Wonderland fandom. It also helps that the Mad Tea Party is one of the favourite groups in the fandom, even if some versions of this group don't always have Alice be on good terms with the group's tea mad members.

With the tea party trio becoming Alice's enemies in the two American McGee's Alice games, has put most people off the idea of supporting the Mad Tea Party friendship in its dark rewritten fan base of AiW. Even though March and Dormouse start off as Alice's friends who needed her help from the Mad Hatter, the roles are reversed in Madness Returns. With Alice helping Hatter after the friends he turned on in the previous game took their revenge. Despite this fact, there have been a rare few who have focused on their AMA counterparts.
