MakoShino is the femslash ship between Makomo and Shinobu Kocho from the Demon Slayer fandom.
Canon[]
Due to Makomo's death, the two unfortunately never got the chance to meet. Even in the manga, Shinobu shows no indications whatsoever that she knew Makomo before she was killed. The only scene they ever had the two ever had together was in the end credits in Demon Slayer academy, which is an AU where all Demon Slayer characters attend school. In this AU, Makomo is alive. Along with some other fellow deceased Demon Slayer characters.
At the end of the 17th episode of Demon Slayer. Zenitsu Agatsuma is seen in a school uniform and doesn't seem too happy about the school. Instead, he explains that his role is to inspect the uniforms of other individuals, meaning that he can admire the girls of the school without getting yelled at. After quickly looking at Nezuko Kamado's uniform he quickly looks at Makomo and Shinobu, and both of them are seen wearing two school uniforms. That’s the only scene of that consists of these two characters together.
The two are also quite similar in a way. Both Makomo and Shinobu are known for being speed centered characters and lacking in physical strength, as stated by the Hand Demon that Makomo had a small body but possessed exceptional agility, being able to avoid several of his consistent attacks. As for Shinobu, She is physically incapable of beheading demons, so she developed wisteria-based poison to fight demons and compensate her decapitation incapability. She also utilizes her petite frame to move very quickly.
Personality wise, Both Shinobu and Makomo are respectively kind. But Shinobu however, can find satisfaction in teasing people, most notably Tomioka. The two also managed to have an impact even after being killed. Instances of this was when Makomo trained Tanjiro and doing so allowed him to eventually cut a boulder that was designed to be impossible. It was her and Sabito's training that allowed Tanjiro to become strong enough to kill the Demon that had killed her Sabito and Urokodaki's other students. Shinobu has also displayed having a major effect on a battle that seemed impossible to win. Such as when she poisoned herself with 37 kilograms of (her entire body) highly concentrated wisteria-based poison which is 700 times the normal amount required to kill an average demon. Shinobu even improvised and was able to render this poison undetectable. After she was devoured by Doma, this extraordinary amount of poison, kicked in and vastly weakened the latter, this allowed the two opponents he was easily overpowering, to turn the tables and defeat him all thanks to Shinobu's sacrifice.
Both of them were in a situation where they couldn't rest until the Demon, they were slain by were defeated as well. Makomo's soul remanifested in Mount Sagiri and she could not rest until the Demon she was slain by was finally defeated. Shinobu stated that she could finally peacefully rest once Doma was killed. Despite never interacting, nor even meeting for that matter in the series. These two ultimately had quite the lot in common.

MakoShino is a rarepair among the Demon Slayer fandom. This is likely because the two have never met before. The ship tends to receive more backlash from other fans. The most known reason the ship is commonly avoided is due to the seemingly large age gap between them, with Makomo dying at the very young age of 12 (presumably) and Shinobu being 18 years old. However, there are a fair share of people who defend the ship from this specific reason by bending a little with Makomo's age to justify the initial age difference between them. Due to the show strongly implying that Makomo's final selection and by extension her death has occurred several years before the main series' events, many fans clarify that Makomo would be about 22 years old. There are also people who are unsure of how old Makomo would be had she survived and claim that she would be at least 18-20+. Either way, this serves as a way to close in the initially large age gap between the two characters. In fact, if true, this would make Makomo even older than Shinobu. Overall, their age gap becomes roughly 4 years apart in actuality when applying this, which is more suitable and justifies the pairing pretty effectively. Others who are supportive of the ship sometimes claim that their age gap is just an excuse for people to spread ship hate about the ship.
However, there are ships that consist of these two characters that are more popular, and the ship is often overshadowed by other pairings such as SabiMako for Makomo, as well as GiyuShino and ShinoMitsu for Shinobu. MakoShino is most often shipped alongside SabiGiyuu and sometimes even ObaMitsu. In this scenario, Sabito and Giyu are coupled with each other over the latter two. Considering that Mitsuri and Iguro canonically love each other, Mitsuri is shipped with him more than she is with Shinobu, allowing fans to pair her with Makomo instead. Despite its small popularity, MakoShino is still fairly supported by some Demon Slayer fans. There have also been story AUs where Makomo ends up living and gets to meet Shinobu, developing a close bond with her and even have the two fall in love in other fanfics.
Some fans also believe these two would make a rather cute couple if they got to meet and know each other more. Due to the lack of female characters and lack of ships on Makomo's end, fans made the quite controversial decision to ship her with Shinobu. A few also consider that the two would have a relationship similar to that of SabiGiyuu. Where Makomo would be a close, if not best friend to Shinobu and they would have a very close genuine bond with one another. It has been theorized by many fans that Makomo would've likely been able to become a Hashira had she survived her Final Selection, where the two would also develop a friendship if it came down to that as well. Given that Shinobu gets along with the other Pillars quite well and Makomo is known for her very kind and quiet nature, the two would bond pretty easily if they met under those circumstances.
On AO3, it is Shinobu's 5th most written ship and 2nd most written for Makomo. The ship has a decent fanbase on Tumblr and currently has over 20+ works in AO3.

- Shinobu and Makomo have never met in canon but has been shown together in an end credits scene, that occurs in episode 17, where Zenitsu Agatsuma checks the dress code of the female students. Consisting of, Nezuko Kamado, Makomo, and Shinobu Kocho.
- In some scenarios some people would include Makomo and Shinobu in artwork by having them be with Giyu Tomioka and Sabito

Proof of this is that Makomo's trailer was titled Character intro #8. And when Shinobu's trailer was released, it was titled, Character intro #9
- In Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba: The Hinokami Chronicles. Some people would play Makomo and Shinobu together because they believe the two make a good team in the video game.
- Before Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba: The Hinokami Chronicles was released. Footage of the game would be shown early. In one of these many videos of leaked gameplay footage. Someone plays Makomo and Shinobu and fights an A.I with the two characters.
- MakoShino is one of Makomo's only femslash ships. Another being MakoNezu, which is the femslash ship between Makomo and Nezuko Kamado and MakoMitsu which is the femslash ship between Makomo and Mitsuri Kanroji.
