Malza’Sai is the het ship between Malzahar and Rek’Sai from the League of Legends fandom.
Canon[]
Rek’Sai is a creature from the Void that currently lives in the sands of Shurima. She spends her time burrowing in the sand waiting for prey to pounce on. Malzahar is a human seer who glimpsed into the Void and now believes it is fate for it to consume everything into nothingness. He works to accelerate the end by summoning Void creatures and recruiting people to sacrifice themselves.
It is not implausible that Malzahar and Rek’Sai could meet. Or even that Malzahar could be fond of her, since she is a Void creature. However, Rek’Sai’s capacity for romantic love, especially towards a human, is dubious. The same goes for Malzahar’s interest in pursuing a romantic relationship, given his goal. However, this is different in Academy Adventures.
Academy Adventures is a multi-volume comic series made by Gutter Rat. In it, Malzahar and Rek’sai are dating. They first appear in page nine of volume one which depicts Rek'Sai’s first day at the Academy. She is poorly received by everyone except by Malzahar who greets her fondly and addresses her as “babe” with cartoon hearts appearing around the two. Presumably they were dating prior to Rek’Sai’s transfer.
They appear again on page seven of volume two. In this episode the Academy is holding its 2017 prom. It is set up that Xayah and Rakan are probably going to be the prom queen and king. With the punchline being the reveal Malzahar and Rek’Sai are the actual prom king and queen. It should be noted that although it is endorsed by Riot Games, Academy Adventures is a community collaboration.
Fanon[]
Malza’Sai is a rarepair in the League of Legends fandom. The ship is extremely rare to non-existent in the community. It appears to be created by Gutter Rat as a recurring joke for Academy Adventures. And its existence as a pairing seems to begin and end there, in both fanon and canon.
