MamoAmi is the het ship between Mamoru Chiba and Ami Mizuno from the Sailor Moon fandom.

Canon

The Inner Senshi were preparing to go see Ami off at the airport for her flight to Germany, but they are forced to go investigate an enemy, so Mamoru offers to take the parting gift to her in their place and speeds off to meet Ami. She is surprised to see him, and after seeing the transformation pen and communicator given to her by Usagi and the others, she asks Mamoru to drive her to where the enemy is so she can help them.

In episode 97, Ami feels low in her self-confidence. Mamoru notices her sitting on the steps and talks to her since she looks down. Ami tells him how she feels that all she's good for is studying and has doubts about her dream to become a doctor. Mamoru says that if he had a cute doctor like Ami, he wouldn't mind getting shots. Ami thinks it's funny that Mamoru really hates them, and both laugh about it. Ami thanks Mamoru for helping her feel better.

Later, after Sailor Moon saves her from a Daimon, Mamoru asks her if things are good now. She says she understands herself now. Sailor Moon then reminds Ami that Tuxedo Mask is HERS, implying that she thought that Ami was interested in him. Ami jokes around that now she can't lose to that challenge either. She grabs the other edge of Tuxedo Mask's cape and he blushes a little.

Fanon

The MamoAmi ship arose from their few cute moments from the 90's anime and their great similarities to each other. As both are smart and aspiring doctors, some many believe that they would get along well. On the other hand, some think that since they are so similar, it would result in a boring relationship, especially in an alternate canon where Ami and Mamoru are the main love interests.

Mamoru's relationship with Usagi is also taken into account, as it is prevalent throughout the entire series it would get in the way of the MamoUsa ship. When debating the ship, Usagi's feelings are sometimes mentioned and is used as a reason not to ship MamoAmi. Furthermore, like MamoUsa, the age difference is occasionally a deterrent for the shipping. In the manga, Ami is 14 and Mamoru is 16-17 when they first meet, and in the anime Mamoru is in college. This aspect isn't seen as much of a problem though, in part to Ami being more mature than the others.

The potential problems with the ship as mentioned, in addition to only a few interactions just between the two, make MamoAmi a small ship in the fandom. It is also overshadowed by its rival ships, including MamoUsa, MakoAmi, and AmiRyo.
