MamoruFiore is the slash ship between Mamoru Chiba and Fiore from the Sailor Moon fandom.

Canon[]

Mamoru and Fiore first meet when Mamoru is a small child. Fiore is an alien who was visiting Earth at the time, and finds himself at the same hospital as Mamoru. Mamoru gives him a flower, and Fiore promises to return one day with many beautiful flowers for him. Fiore is forced to leave Earth due to the atmosphere's effects on his alien body, and as Mamoru grows older he presumes that Fiore was nothing more than an imaginary friend.

Mamoru and Fiore meet again twelve years later. Mamoru is on a date with Usagi Tsukino when Fiore, disguised as a human, interrupts them. He holds Mamoru's hands as he vows that he will keep his promise. After they witness the reunion Mamoru and Fiore have, the Sailor Scouts have a conversation where they blatantly question the "nature" of Mamoru and Fiore's past relationship. Usagi questions if they were “just” friends, and Ami makes a comment about how Mamoru seems to be popular with both girls and guys. This spurs on further conversation among the scouts about “that kind” of relationship and how nothing’s wrong with it. In fact, nothing does seem to be wrong with it, with the way it’s discussed among the scouts. Sadly, the flower Fiore brings is the evil Kisenian Blossom, a naked, Godiva-haired monster-lady that wants to destroy the earth with plant monsters. Furthermore, Fiore is jealous of Mamoru’s relationship with Usagi and has him kidnapped on a giant asteroid above the world. Fans postulate he has romantic feelings for Mamoru, though the dub says they’re more akin to brothers. The Japanese version is less sure of this fact, so I encourage people to go for what feels natural to them.

Fanon[]

MamoruFiore is considered somewhat of a rarepair in the Sailor Moon fandom as there isn't much work that centers on the pair. Additionally, Fiore is an anime-only character, created exclusively for the Sailor Moon R movie. This means he is not known to manga readers or fans who have only seen Sailor Moon Crystal. However, most viewers of the movie do walk away believing that Fiore was queer-coded and had romantic feelings for Mamoru, so by that nature it is a rather well-known and understood ship. It is still one of the most popular slash pairings in the fandom, as most Sailor Moon shipping is femslash or het.

One thing fans notice is that Fiore’s admiration for Mamoru is more like unrequited love. His antics to get Mamoru to notice him are not unlike Usagi’s dramatic behavior. Fiore is a villain only because he allows his jealousy to get the better of him. If Fiore had the benefit of being introduced in a longer arc in the series, perhaps he could have been built up as an ex instead of a long lost friend.

MamoruFiore currently has over 20 works on AO3.
