Manamy is the het ship between Manic and Amy from the Sonic Underground and Sonic the Hedgehog fandoms.
Canon[]
Amy is one of the most recurring supporting characters in the mainline game series as Sonic’s self-proclaimed girlfriend. Manic is Sonic’s (and Sonia’s) brother, and the drummer of their band. He is also one of the main characters in the animated series Sonic Underground.
The two have never met in canon since Manic only appears in said cartoon, where Amy is absent. Both characters had interactions with Prime Sonic in the tenth issue of Sonic Super Special, but never directly with each other. Amy and a character resembling the green hedgehog can be seen in the audience when Sonic and Sally are arguing in issue 134, but that is the closest to an actual meet. Manic and his siblings visited Mobius Prime in issue 144 for a concert tour, but it is only speculation as we never see the pink hedgehog actually going there; only a poster of a tour is seen on the floor beside a Sonic plush.
In terms of similarities, they are hedgehogs related in a way to the title character: Manic is the younger biological brother of Sonic of the Sonic Underground Zone; Amy treats the blue hedgehog like a brother most of the time. Both belong to bloodlines related to royalty. Amy is cousin of Rob, who is himself the son of a king, in the Pre-Super Genesis Wave Archie comics; Manic is the third triplet child of Queen Aleena. They possess equipment to defend themselves or otherwise put to good use. Amy has her Piko Piko Hammer and Manic his medallion which can turn into a drum kit that can create tremors. Both can sometimes show great affection and can do whatever they can to protect their “possessions”. Amy has times caring to Sonic, while Manic has once tried to protect a baby (later revealed to be a robot) from being kidnapped. Finally, they have used surfboard-like objects for travel or other purposes: Manic sometimes travels with a hoverboard, while Amy surfs in her personal Extreme Gear in the Sonic Riders series of games.
As it is currently demanded by SEGA that Sonic game characters should not have biological relatives, excluding the ones already introduced, it is unlikely that Manic will ever appear in any official material again.
Fanon[]
Though not as popular as its rival ships, Manamy has a fair share of supporters.
It is notably less popular than many ships for Amy such as Sonamy, Shadamy or Silvamy. However, this is one the most popular ships for Manic along with Manina and Manouge. Manamy still a fairly popular ship with a handful of fan-art. A fan club for this pair was set up in January 2011. In terms of literature, four fan-works have been written on Archive of Our Own for this ship as of April 2022.
Those who do pair the two wanted the green hedgehog, or even the entire Sonic Underground, continue to exist after the main story ended. A typical Manamy story would have an Amy of the Sonic Underground zone; others bring the game’s Modern, Classic, or even Prime Amy into the same zone. Sometimes, the pink hedgehog of the chosen incarnation would stay there for the rest of the story. Another is including Amy into Manic’s band, or her helping the trio search for their mother.
Ships that go well with Manamy include Sonally (Sonic×Sally), Sonmina (Sonic×Mina), Shadonia (Shadow×Sonia), Shadmina (Shadow×Mina), and Mightonia (Mighty×Sonia).
