Manina is the het ship between Manic and Mina from the Sonic Underground fandom.
Canon[]
Manic appeared in the Sonic Underground cartoon, where he and his siblings were separated from birth and reunited years later and formed a band. With their musical talents, they go on quests in order to reunite with their mother and defeat Robotnik’s forces. Mina appeared in the Archie Sonic the Hedgehog comics. There, she is a famous singer and fell in love with Prime Sonic after being rescued by and was also one of the love interests competing for his affection.
The two never directly interact in the comics, despite Manic having an appearance along with his siblings in the tenth issue of Sonic Super Special. The closest where they are seen together in issue 134. In the audience, Mina is closest to the stage, while a hedgehog resembling Manic is right behind Rotor. While the mongoose herself appears in issue 144, Manic and his siblings visited Mobius Prime in for a concert tour which is evident only in a fallen poster in Amy’s room. Mina could have seen the three at around the events of said issue, but that is only speculation.
Manic and Mina fight for the side of good; that is, the hedgehog is a member of a larger Resistance movement, and mongoose was a Freedom Fighter for a brief amount of time. Both share a common interest in music, specifically singing their hearts out to inspire others. Though, Mina as a lead singer has never been seen playing an instrument unlike the hedgehog, the role rather assigned to her fellow Forget-Me-Nots. They also held a significant number of concerts in their respective zones. The mongoose took care of a few orphaned children at one point in the comics, and Manic had a liking to a baby hedgehog which later turns out to be a robot.
Due to originating from two different adaptations of the franchise, along with Sonic Underground and the comics getting cancelled, as well as Mina being a character created by Ken Penders, the two characters will most likely never meet.
Fanon[]
Despite the two never interacting in the comics, Manina is a well-liked ship in the fandom. Many fans ship them due to both characters’ love and association with music: Manic being a drummer in his band, and Mina a singer. Shippers think that Ash is not a good match for her, but also do not support Sonmina. This way, they would chose Manic as an alternative character to ship her with, along with him being the brother of Sonic may have played a factor. Other rival ships include Manamy and Tailina.
Lots of fan-art have been created for this pairing. A notable DeviantArtist is sonicstarr, which artwork featuring the two currently stands at two. Another is MiraiLuv (AliceAcorn6003) with at least four. One of them has them cosplaying as Kagamine Rin and Len.
In contrast, a few fan-made literature with these characters in mind have been written. Incogitant by Lunareity has the hedgehog brining the mongoose from long-term hiding to a portal back home. Given the Manic/Mina tag, the author might consider the two starting a relationship in a future chapter. Petrichor by mephilessupremacy is another work under the same tag, but both characters have yet to make their appearances after three chapters.
Fans would pair the two since Manic typically never has a canon relationship with a female in his own series. Potential fan-works could have a Mina of the Sonic Underground Zone or bring Mina from Mobius Prime to said zone and start a relationship with the hedgehog. The mongoose could be a fourth, if not additional, member of the band as lead singer; to the point of her being a stepping-stone to help the three find their mother.
