MathHun is the slash ship between Player 062 and Seong Gi-hun from the Squid Game fandom.

Canon

Player 062 and Gi-hun barely interact during the games, and the one time they do it's for one short scene. Both have ended up in debt because Gi-hun owns to the loan sharks and Player 062 invested in cryptocurrency, and both chose to join the mysterious games. The two met each other during it and interact for the first time during Marbles when players are tasked to get themselves a teammate.

After Sang-woo picked Ali, Gi-hun went to find a teammate for himself when he stumbled upon Player 062. In their conversation, Player 062 says he is fit as he's a math teacher and plays football while talking to Gi-hun about how there is no one better to find. He also mentions that he has declined other players as he immediately chose Gi-hun because he thinks that they would be a cool team. Gi-hun answers back, saying that they don't know what the next game will be and is not sure on whether to play with him. Player 062 then brings up a possibility that, if a player will end up without a partner they might automatically lose the game. He then points out and makes a comment about Player 001, Oh Il-nam, that he might be the odd one out and extends his hand as an invitation for Gi-hun to be his partner. However, Gi-hun choses Oh Il-nam as his partner while Player 062, after being rejected by Gi-hun, choses Player 130. They both survive the game.

Then in the next game, Glass Stepping Stones, Gi-hun choses the number 16, the last number while Player 062 choses the number 3. During the game, Gi-hun watches as Player 062 impressively manages to step on three correct tiles, until he steps on the wrong one and falls to his inevitable death.

There are some similarities between the Gi-hun and Player 062. Both were shown to be ready to make decisions out of desperation, such as Gi-hun manipulating Il-nam only because there was no other way to win and Player 062 sprinting on the glass tiles without stopping to think about his next choice. However, Gi-hun is a character who cares for others and is ready to take them by his side when needed, as shown by his choice to pick Il-nam during Marbles because no one else was ready to pick him, even though he would've been at a disadvantage had the game been different. Meanwhile Player 062 was shown to be selfish, as he was only ready to pick Gi-hun because he believed they could win together and held out on other players who offered to be partners.

Fanon

This rarepair stems from Player 062 words on how he immediately chose Gi-hun as his partner for Marbles and declined all other players, even though they didn't know each other at all. Some fans like to assume that he only said all that to Gi-hun because he probably didn’t have any luck on finding a partner for the game sooner, and was possibly lying to make it seem like Gi-hun was his first choice. Considering that this is their only interaction together, some felt like what he said to be so out of the blue that he had to have been lying or possibly he was just over-exaggerating a little, so that Gi-hun would accept being his partner for the game. A few find it to be a tiny bit funny because of this assumption.

Some shippers like the idea of Player 062 having a sort of "oblivious but direct" dynamic with Gi-hun and his feelings towards him. Others usually present him having an "admire crush" of sorts to Gi-hun if assuming that he really did meant what he said to Gi-hun. Player 062 having a unrequited crush on Gi-hun is also commonly portrayed as well. This has caused some fanart to show the two being close together while Sang-woo is jealous of them in the background, as well as more fanart on how the two would interact had they learnt of each other earlier.

The ship seems to have caught the attention of a few users on sqtwt (Squid Game Twitter) after well-known SalesHun artist, @geminireplica drew 3 pieces of fanart for the two as of now. As a bonus @geminireplica even changed their bio to include the following sentence "#1 mathhun fan". Because of @geminireplica's second fanart of the two, it seems to have started picking up as another member in Gihun's Harem.

The ship currently only has two fanfictions under the platonic tag on AO3, with the newest one having it tagged as mlm and unrequited crush. It is the only ship for Player 062 out there.
